    When I was going in school in Sweden, I remember that I thought it was so sad reading that the old palace "Tre kronor" burned down. Still think similar today but can appreciate the current palace on its own right but there is something magical with towers etc.😊👑

    We lost so many writings due to the fire. I think ive read somewhere that more than 2/3rds was lost, writings such as hundreds of years old letters(already at that time) between different generals and the aristocracy. As well as a lot of the medieval history of sweden.

    1400 rooms is far from accurate, according to the courts home page it's 600+ rooms spread over 11 floors. When the head of Versailles came on a visit he was stunned by the collections, the condition, how complete they are and the registers of everything going back to when the castle was built. It's so much more than a list of the items, it says when it was bought, where it was bought and by who. There's even original sampels of fabrics.

      Just to clarify: There are 600+ rooms with windows (and/or fireplaces) and a grand total of 1400+ rooms (so roughly 800 rooms without windows and fireplaces). Then there are almost 200 enclosed spaces that are not accounted for as “rooms”, like wardrobes and stairwells.

Not only talking about how things ’feel’ (even if that is important), but someone using tools so we, who are not in the room, can see if something comunicates back to the investigators. (An example of what I mean is the youtube channel ’Haunted nights’).

    The great irony of the time. When Charles was defeated in Russia and fled into exile in Turkey. His nobles were given rather generous peaceoffers from the Tzar that would have allowed Sweden to remain a great power. But alas. The king refused all negotiations, and the Swedish parliament dared not go against the wishes of their king. So in the end we lost everything... Except Finland, that came later

      Charles was extremely stubborn and was opposed to anything that would mean a disadvantage to Sweden.
      Probably because there was actually, a greater opportunity for a more advantageous peace. For example, taking Norway would give Sweden a much greater hand at the negotiation table, it was easier said than done however. @@anumeon

    King commissioned new place but , why did he never added big acres of gardens Orchards path ways like Versailles , which would have given palace more grandeur and would have made it more attractive ..... It looks like some common big building within the crowd of Stockholm , separating palace from that crowd, big area of land filled with gardens and lakes and fountains would have given it more important and royal look .... now you can drive around the palace there's no privacy and also question of safety no one knows who can drive around the palace

      @desolateleng9943 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Therer aren't room for big gardens due to the size of the island the palace and that part of the city is on, but yeah, the car roads going all around it is a SCANDAL, and pretty much all of us who live in Stockholm who aren't politicians or city planners agree on this. Despite this, in recent years the situation has been made even worse with a widening of the road and a giant monster of a bridge for cars leading there. The castle was meant to be approached by sea from that side with a unobstructed view of the building, and now there's a giant wound in the form of a motorway right in front of it.

    Why does the monarch have "Gustav" at the end of his name (Carl XVI Gustav)? Does it indicate a dynastic connection?

    • @Surion93
      @Surion93 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      In Sweden it is a tradition when monarchs have a double name like Mary-Ann or in this case Carl Gustaf to put the number in the middle of the name, because the number only refers to the first part of the name. It´s to make things simpler to follow the line. The king does not have a dash in between his first name even if his first name is tecnically Carl Gustaf. This has happend alot with older regents like: Gustav II Adolf, Carl XIV Johan, Karl X Gustav, Ulrika Eleonora etc. It is important to note that the numbering only refers to the first part of the name in all cases unless the number is written after. In this case there have been 15 kings named Carl before him. The current "dynasty" on the swedish throne is called Bernadotte so the current king is Carl XVI Gustaf of house Bernadotte. Sorry for the long reply... :)

    • @bjornerikroth
      @bjornerikroth 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@mn4169 No, as said before here he's the 16th Karl/Carl, but as he's actually Carl Gustaf the full name with enumeration becomes Carl XVI Gustaf.
      Actually, the numbering is a bit inflated - the first kings to use numbering was Gustav Vasa's sons and their historians stuffed the regent history with a number of dubious or plain fictious kings. Our current king is more like the 10th Karl from what we know.

    • @Merecir
      @Merecir 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bjornerikroth We cannot be sure if the numbering is true or not. As most records of all the heathen kings were cleared out from the histories. It is obviously not random chance that Erik Segersäll is considered to be the oldest confirmed king to exist when he is also the first christian king...
      There are several different sources for the line of kings before him from secondary sources, but since they disagree on some of the names and dates historians disregard them all and call them "legendary".
      That the royal library also went up in flames in 1697 ads to the fog around early Sweden. Who knows what documents were destroyed there.

      That’s such a ridiculous comment….people in the Americas have no concept of having more than 1000 years of monarchy in our history, whereas the culture of those countries was literally dictated by the successive monarchs and courts. That includes religion, music, art of all kinds including dance, architecture, festivals…..it’s all linked backwards to _something_ in history! The royals give their name, time, and energy to an incredible number of charities, and without their “glamour,” the charities would get far less money. Also, castles were built hundreds of years ago, so the poor from that time are dust. However, the economies in countries with reigning monarchs are greatly enhanced by tourism directly related to the castles and art collections of monarchs, so it benefits many many people.
