Bea didn't hate Betty. She got annoyed at her constant perky attitude. They regularly car shared to the studio and lunched together most days. If Betty wasn't available for lunch Bea would be upset as she did enjoy their time together. They were very different people but were not as distant as people try to make out.

One more thing---watch the Lifetime {I think it's Lifetime?} shows about the women separately. Each woman is on each other's show, talking about that person---except, quite obviously, Bea is not on Betty's. The other two from GG are, but not Bea, and Bea was on Rue's and Esther's. That's pretty telling to me.

The Golden Girls should never be rebooted, the show deserve to be respected as the four original actresses made the show the awesome phenomenal that it was. The show definitely played its part in feminism and being a strong woman wasn’t a negative thing. I believe The Golden Girls was a breakthrough and led the way for such shows as Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives etc. The Golden Girls was probably a first of it kind where women could have their own opinions, and express themselves without taking cue from a man, for an example, AIDS was something negative back in the early 1980s, most of the negative propaganda were coming from straight men, but The Golden Girls as well as Princess Diana, they brought AIDS to the public with humility and understanding. The Golden Girls was ahead of its time, and they made it ok to have a giggle even during tough time and the show made you think. Most of all, they made it ok to feel sexy and you can still be sexual in later years. Before The Golden Girls, people of middle aged thought after 50 you had to dress down and behave in a low-key way appropriate to your advancing age, but the show turned that on its head and basically made it ok to grow old disgracefully. In my view, it will be very wrong to reboot The Golden Girls without its original casts, and as the incredible Betty White is sadly the only remaining cast member to be alive today, The Golden Girls should be allowed to be left alone and rest in blissful peace

It addressed divorce, same-sex attraction, feminism, chauvinism, ageism, class divides, generational differences, and so much more while being relevant to the current time. The lessons this show provided are relevant even now, in 2021, which is very telling.

It's the writing. This is hands down one of the most well written sitcoms of all time. All of the primary actresses on this show were masters of delivery. But it was the lines they delivered that made this show so enjoyable and entertaining.

You can’t overstate how good the writing and the acting were, but the show was also a triumph for the set designers and camera operators and makeup artists. In addition, if I remember correctly, this show was one of the early sitcoms to be recorded in stereo, which added a new layer of complexity to the work of the sound technicians. A lot of creative people were at the top of their games in creating this show.

I loved that show as a kid, and I love it now in my 40s. It is sad to think the four women were not best friends in real life like their characters were. I've read all sorts of rumors about Bea and Betty's relationship--but Bea has been dead over a decade. Why do people presume to read her mind and say how she really felt? Betty, to her great credit, seems to bear no grudge. The four actresses came together to make something that has endured over 35 years, and I'm grateful to each one of them for the laughs they've given me. May the three who have left us rest in peace. May Betty live to be 150!

It’s always about the “Fued” between Betty and Bea. But was it really a fued? Betty said she was not “Bea’s favorite person, but I’ve never heard language as harsh as “despised,” used. People who work together can’t all be each other’s favorites. And people with differing work ethics can still have lunch and get along on a personal level. They were two different people who were each moving the television industry forward in their own unique ways. Bea was trained on the stage whereas Betty spent almost the entirety of her life in front of a television studio-audience. And although I’m a big fan of Bea Arthur’s work, I get why Betty White got the first award. Rose was the complete opposite of Sue Ann Niven - Betty White reinvented her man-hungry stereotype from MTM. But Dorothy was still Maude, just like Amanda’s By the Sea was Maude doing Fawlty Towers. But at the end of the day, they were all phenomenal and, together, created a staple of American television which still grabs new audiences each year.

Golden Girls will go down as a classic. Even after watching the same episodes over and over, I still laugh at the same scenes, same lines. I loved the mother/daughter scenes between Dorothy and Sophia. All four stars gave as good as they got, but they always, always had each other's back. That's what I loved about each of them. They were each a professional in her own right, bringing a variety of talents to the table. That magical combination makes for classic TV.

It seems Bea Arthur was the fly in the ointment for this show. She was the reason the show ended, and she was getting upset over Betty White's fun and playful attitude. Bea was once quoted saying Betty was childish. Ms. White was NOT childish! She was fun and positive; unlike Ms. Arthur. This was not the first show Ms. Arthur clashed on. It was just her personality. she was far too serious for comedy, IMHO. She would never have done SNL, or any of the hilarious movies Ms. White did! I miss Betty so much, nd her happy, funny, joyous spirit! I am happy, though, that she is with her husband again, and probably making the angels laugh!

I absolutely love how they made 4 elder women be so comfortable talking about sex and show confidence. There’s always been a stigma around elders who still have an active sex life.
Not because “they care for their health”, but because it’s something that only the young ones should do. And they wanna keep them locked inside a house knitting and doing nothing all day long.
Some of them don’t enjoy that kind of life and they want to continue exploring and adventuring and meeting others. And I love how they created these characters with these personalities.

I worked for one of the alphabet stations in NYC and had the pleasure of meeting 3 of the 4 girls. Rue was just a very gracious woman who was full of laughs but she let you know when she was done and ready to move on, classy lady. Betty.... I can't tell you how nice it was to chat with her and share a few giggles about someone who was rude to everyone. Betty was willing to hang around after the group went their separate ways, sitting with a few of us nobodies and made us feel like we were the interesting parties. She asked several questions about our jobs, genuine inquisitive questions. She gave each one of us a hug and a peck on the cheek. Bea.... how do I put this... Bea was not friendly at all, rude sarcastic with answers, she didn't want to be bothered with any of it. All the people in attendance all graciously let us take pictures with them, but Bea, flung us off with a flip of the wrist is if the peasants were among her. (That's when Betty and Rue made a hilarious comment about Bea behind her back and Bea knew we were laughing at her), too bad lady! These are fond memories I will cherish forever.

This video is very unfair to Bea. She clearly was distant from toxic positivity, and there’s nothing wrong with that. She was reserved. Introverted. Shy. Not everyone can or wants to be the “life of the party,” and there’s nothing wrong with that, either. How frustrating for the world to be against her because she wasn’t what they wanted her to be. If any rift existed between her and Betty, it was because of outside influences, not anything between the two of them. I think today’s world would embrace Bea a lot more, because introversion and keeping a low profile is understood and accepted a lot more nowadays.

I'm perfectly sure she did not, at all - 'despise' is a strong word, and the wrong one. I don't know why people need to sensationalize things like this ..... Bea Arthur was a professional actor, respected on both sides of the Atlantic and doubtless beyond, and I'm sure she respected the professional actor Betty White; now and then she might have been irritated by Ms White's positivity - but we're entitled to get a little annoyed now and then by the people with whom we work, even if we respect them hugely. White, Arthur, McClanahan and Getty raised their humour to the level of an art form - few can do that, and we don't need to descend to this level of personal intrusiveness: why do people do it? For the headline? As clickbait? It's demeaning.

Bea Arthur came to Australia in 1999. She performed a one-woman show at the Sydney Opera House. she had a QandA session afterwards. I asked her about any tensions between cast members on the set of The Golden Girls. Her response was this : "When you're asked to hit a fellow cast member over the head with a rolled up newspaper on camera, only to be called by your cast-mate as being ugly, too masculine and too tall in the script; you get conflicted. I love Betty dearly, but our storylines had us fixed into four very defined, definitive stereotypes, and after a while, you begin to resent those stereotypes".
