Another reason to start by the part 5 is: you warm up and remember the “Cambridge expressions”, + YOU MIGHT FIND SOME ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS IN PARTS 1-4 (!!!). By the latter reason i mean that in the texts 5-8 there might be target phrasal verbs / passive structures, etc. you have in parts 1-4 (💡)
1. Time management 2. Part 5 first 3. Reading habit 4. There will be new words 5. Read the instructions Part 5: multiple choice 1. Read quickly to absorb the idea of each paragraph 2. Find the exact answer in the passage Cross-text multiple matching (matching info with a para) 1. Read the text quickly 2. Understand the questions carefully Gapped text (a long text with 6 para removed) 1. Last line of the previous and the first of the following para 2. Find keywords: pronouns, linking words,… Multiple matching 1. Synonyms (context)
I feel like at this point it's not about english anymore. It's about understanding the text and a critical and flexible thinking, little to do with the language itself
Many thanks for your videos! I would recommend reading the missing paragraphs first at part 7. Then read the first paragraph and the second one (of the main text) and try to answer. This approach has appeared as a game changer for me.
Thank you Ben!! I’ve been panicking over part 7 of the C1 advanced, it’s sooo complicated, sometimes I think I did everything right only to realize that the key says a whole different thing. Thanks. I have my exam the day after tomorrow. I’ll try to remember what you said!!
These are fantastic tips! Thank you very much. I suppose candidates for all these papers should do their best to skim and scan texts and then read a bit more carefully to answer the questions.
Thanks! 🙂 I'm careful not to use words like skim and scan in relation to these exams... I recommend that the students first read the texts relatively quickly but at the same time absorbing the content and ideas of the articles. And then they should go back to look for the details to answer the questions.
Thank you!! Excellent video! I came across with your channel some days ago and it is really interesting. I'm preparing CAE and part 6 is the most difficult for me.
I like to start with part 3 because I personally find it the easiest and it boosts my confidence, also it's quick enough not to take too much time before moving on to the reading part
I had this advice given to me for my czech exams but i believe it applies here too for question 5 read the questions first cause if you read the text and then read the questions then youll need to read the text again with the context of the questions, on the other hand if you read the questions first youll know what youre looking for from the start
At the C1 advanced test I got 209/210 on the UoE part and 210/210 for reading, so today I am taking the C2 proficiency test, but I haven’t really practiced. Only a little bit yesterday, but I feel like you’re tips are gonna help me manage :). Thanks alot!
Hello Ben, thank you so much for these awesome videos. I am preparing for the C2 Cambridge exam and I became so addicted to your videos!❤ Soon, i will subscribe to your online course as well 😊
1.Is it a good idea to do reading first and only after that go to use of English? 2. Could you give extra tips for the 6th part of the reading? It is the most difficult part for me.
Hi Ben thank you for your video.I'm taking the fce exam in June and during these days I'm practicing the various part...I have problems with the Reading and Use of English especially part 6 ... sometimes the sentences removed from the text are "tricky"... and I spend much time on the exercise... for example today I spent half an hour and I made 3 mistakes... 😥 Any tips to improve in this part? Thanks Alessandra
I hate Cambridge test because it requires good memory. If you have it and know English it's ok but you could know English at a C1 level but still having a very hard time if, like me, you have memory problems. Still I'm trying the exam tomorrow... Whish me good memory!
I would like to go for the CAE, even though I see my level between B1-B2. I had been looking up your courses already. Not sure which one to get. About speaking, I lived in London 5 years ago. My fear is more in this part of use of english. Hope to see any advice. Cheers!
Hi Ben. I find your videos very helpful. May I ask you where I can find Cambridge tests to practice for free? I'm going to buy the Advanced Trainer book you recommended and the advanced 2 but I know I need way more material to practice. Could you please help me find? thanks in advance :)
Hi Ben! Thank you for your videos and your tips, they are very helpful indeed! I wanted to ask you if there's a drive, a link or someplace where I can find multiple Cambridge tests to practice (I already have the pdf file of the handbook but I needed more). I decided to do the exam just a few days ago and I'll have to do it in April in order to have the results on time for a University test so I need to prepare very quickly in order to pass the exam. Thanks in advance!
Thank you. Very informative. I heard on a webinar (from 2 years ago) that Cambridge had a 'Read and Improve' web page which is similar to Write and Improve but focussing on Reading skills. However, I can't find it. Can anyone help?
Hi teacher, firstly I just want to thank you for your videos, and how can I find FCE vocabulary list? I found Pet and Ket vocabulary list, those are possible for Fce exam or is there another list ?
Hi teacher I have trouble understanding this task and I don't know why. Two years ago I failed c1 exam I got a high mark in writing, listening & 8 in speaking except the reading task my mark was very low. Anyway I did not prepare the exam really but I was very confident... in the end I got disappointed. However I would like to try it again. It is something like that I just turn out the opposite answers. Could you give a piece of advice. Thanks in advance.

Yes. Officially, Cambridge marks part 1 as Reading (I've never understood why). But, for preparation and time management purposes, I recommend students treat it as Use of English. 🙂
Well... it's not typical, as you said. You have a lot of text to read in detail so it's surprising that you can do it all in less than an hour. I would recommend than you slow down to make sure you don't make any silly mistakes. What kind of score have you been getting in the practice tests?
Another reason to start by the part 5 is: you warm up and remember the “Cambridge expressions”, + YOU MIGHT FIND SOME ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS IN PARTS 1-4 (!!!). The closer the exams get, the crazier i feel 😅 i need like *consume* everything but it feels impossible
Would you suggest start reading the questions and then search for the alternative?? or is it always better read the whole text first?

I don't think there is an FCE vocabulary because from that level up, you need to learn vocabulary in general, not just a limited set of words.

I gave all the advice in this video and my other videos. 🙂 Now you just need to practise and continue to immerse yourself in English.
Teacher, I always take time for reading and comprehend in short time :(
You need to practise reading more. It's the best way to improve
May people underline the exam to find the responses?
Yes.

Where can I find material for reading C1?
The first question is associated with the first paragraph. How is named that kind of exercises ?
You mean part 5? It's multiple choice
Isn't it a good option to do this exercises first, which is giving you the most points?
Yes, that's right. I recommend that in another video 👍
Hi Ben. Could you please give us a tips to pass C1 reading paper.
More?? All the tips are in the video 🙂
So Ben, those tips relate to the ESOL c1 reading part as well?
No, these tips are for the Cambridge English exams: B2 First, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency (FCE, CAE and CPE)
Oh understand now. That's why I was so confused. Is that possible you can upload retaliated to ESOL C1 reading part 🙏 please Ben?
Thank you
If i choose computer based, can i choose my order in which I will solve them?
In the Read and Use of English and Writing papers, you can do the parts in any order you like 👍
Hi Ben! Will I be able to skip to the 5th part in the online test?
Yes. You do the question in any order you want.
