    ►Lyrics:
These are the days when we don’t get out of bed
These are the days when nothing is all we have
    We are young
    We are bright
We have love on our side
    Life is one big thrill
    We are dumb
    We are loud
As if we only can shout
    Every night ends the same
    We are looking for stars
    But we only find sugar
    We are looking for stars
    These nights are all insane
We are all on a high
    Night after night
    Lost in outer space
    We are looking for stars
    But we only find sugar
These are the nights when we don’t go to bed
These are the nights when nothing is already said
    We are bold
    Play it hard
We have time on our side
    Attracted by every sin
    We are dumb
    We are loud
As if we only can shout
    Every night ends the same
    We are looking for stars
    But we only find sugar
    We are looking for stars
    These nights are all insane
We are all on a high
    Night after night
    Lost in outer space
    We are looking for stars
    But we only find sugar

I have to share my thoughts because I cannot read these comments.. The song and music video are both great.. Sure it is experimental, but look people how much work they put into this video..
People miss old hooverphonic.. well isn't it enough that majority of the new album is downtempo, James Bond such and such.. Like 'Lethal Skies' and 'Concrete Skin' are essence of trip-hop, great bit and angel's smooth Luka's vocal. I do not mind songs like 'Looking for Stars' or 'Uptight'.. They are more radio songs and so what. Majority is our Hooverphonic and solid.
Moreover I cannot stand the guys who always compare the singers.. It can tell that Alex and Raymond are very demanding and every new singer brings first of all lots of talent, smoothness and abviously something new..
Especially do not get the guys who always say that Geike was only one real band's singer. She had her era but it is over, btw People forget who record first album... Leisje, and that was an extreme talent too. Not to mention Esther.
Look at Massive Attack, they have plenty singers male/female that come and go and nobody complains.. maybe a couple of the same caliber morons that complain about Hoover that only one real Teardrop is with Liz Frazer, well off course she was the first/original who sang that, but what about Stephanie Dosen or Martina? Are they not good? Give me a break.
But anyway with regards to Hoover, the live shows are better than ever, perfection, for instance how smooth 2wicky sounds compering to Geike performance.. A lot better and smoother with Luka, btw Luka takes all the old songs like a boss..
I wish Hooverphonic all the best and success and I hope the band would stay in such shape and form for years to come because after Noemie left you could not make a better choice than Luka.. Peace.

I too think Lukas great. Saying this after the news about their split and re'hook with Geike, I hope that Luka keeps doing what she was with this here. It sounds to me with what i've picked up on in the lyrics, and the 'pop-rock' sound to it, its like they are using pop music against itself. These tracks are musically top tier 'pop rock' styled songs, thoroughly satisfying to listen to, euphoric chorus's, groovy and seductive verses, polished crisp engineering, and truly, they're not for everyone. Lyrically they seem to have a pretty cynical sarcastic feel to them though. Seems like they've been eyeing down peoples behavoir (more) and interactions (still) socially (again) and romantically (what?!?!when..), especially in younger people (still). She is young. Sure can fuc*in sing though. They are promoting all the opposite ideals and glamorization that pop music so often thrives on. 'Romantic' could have saved me alot of trouble had it been available to me when I was younger. Its honest, its uplifting, almost healing in a way. 'Summer Sun' totally kicks ass, its too real, too relatable. I dig it. It was an inside job.
I mean hell, just look at 'Horrible Person' and this whole Eurovision deal. ;)

I do not understand a sigle word you say mate..
Anyways.. It's bizzare what happened to Luca and I am a bit discussed.. They rehearsal together, recently recorded an album together and just opportunity came up dismissed her just like that.. and let ther know on Zoom..
I am sorry for her because she missed Eurovision due to pandemic and now this.. I would love to see her solo in Eurovision 2021 not Hooverphonic, she fits better..
I also think it's better for her, I still think she took all the songs like a boss but she was to young for them.. I was always thinking whether she takes some female friend with her when they were touring not to only hang out with these old pricks.
At the end of the day they helped her rise and now she can go her own path..

But anyway I saw and heard Luka in Prague and she is absolutely amazing. At first, I thought she is the only pop singer with a beautiful voice, but I was wrong. Well Ok, it does not have the familair 'feeling' of Hooverphonic, but still it's a yes for me. Not because i like this genre, but because music is supposed to cause you feelings, negative, positive, it doesn't matter. As long as something is not perceived as neutral, (for me) is good art. This goes for this song, it causes positive vibe at most.

I love Hooverphonic, I’ve been listening to this band for the longest time and was desperately waiting for this new album. Now, regarding the video, if it was a conscious decision to put out a something that 99% of the people would not get, then that’s fine. I’m part of that statistic btw, it made zero sense to me, and that’s coming from someone who totally supports disruptive action/moves. Personally, I think only the director got the idea behind it (*IF* there’s an idea behind it), and if you guys get it it’s only because it was perhaps explained to you. But that’s absolutely not a big deal, after all it’s just a video. Besides, I did enjoy seeing Ray dancing! :)
Anyways, I think Luka has an AMAZING voice. Seriously, the girl has talent. But does she have the depth we associate with this band? Hell no. She lacks the emotion and the life experience to translate into words the songs you write. It’s not just about being able to reach the notes (which she does). It’s more about feeling, emotion and that utter quality I can’t quite name, but that makes people go “wow!”. That’s what I believe people mean when they say they miss “the older hooverphonic”. It was a marriage of music + lyrics + voice that completely enraptured us, that transported us to another place. I say keep looking for stars, hopefully you’ll find it.

    • @ThaisMCruz
      @ThaisMCruz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

haai haai oh yeah, it has some great tunes, which just goes to show how amazing this band is. I never said the album was bad, although it certainly wasn’t their best. I only said that it lacked a certain something. And it was just one opinion, in a sea of opinions, my friend.

    • @ThaisMCruz
      @ThaisMCruz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

6980MulhollandDrive I agree. Is not a matter of talent or being able to sing. She is talented and can sing. It’s a matter of fitting in with the band, of being able to blend in with their iconic style, with what makes Hoovephonic... well, Hooverphonic!
You mentioned something that was spot on: she absolutely cannot sing their old material. It just doesn’t work. And sometimes, they have to make totally new arrangements in order to fit in with her voice, and I’m not just talking about switching keys. I remember Alex saying something once about a song, I think it was “The Last Thing I Need Is You” (I totally might be mistaken). Anyway, he said that the song was written for a long time and that he tried to have Geike sing it, and it didn’t work. It wasn’t until Noemie came in that they were able to release it, meaning that such things happen, sometimes it’s simply a matter of having the performer match the song. However, with Luka, almost all material seems off. A simple TH-cam search will prove my point. And again, the girl has a BEAUTIFUL voice. That is absolutely not the point. The point is that it just does not match with the material. Watching Hooverphonic live used to be a beautiful thing, now is kinda painful...

    • @ThaisMCruz
      @ThaisMCruz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

6980MulhollandDrive oh my god, are you in my head? I could not agree more! Have you heard her sing Eden? That’s the most perfect song ever, it has so much feeling in it, both - in lyrics and in the arrangement - and she manages to make it sound dull and flat EVERY SINGLE TIME! And it’s not because she does not hit some key or anything like that. It’s almost like she can’t relate to it. Think about great performers. Piaf, Nina, etc. They all put so much feeling into their performances. You could close your eyes and feel whatever the lyrics talked about. That’s what I meant in my original comment by experience. I don’t know, I’m afraid people read this and think I’m roasting the poor girl or something, but I’m not. She’s good, in her own way. I just don’t think she fits in with the band. If she did, we would not see so many comments like “this is not the Hooverphonic I know”

    • @ThaisMCruz
      @ThaisMCruz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

6980MulhollandDrive Yeah, that’s it! You’re right, it was Anger Never Dies! And yeah, I totally agree! Although I’m not sure I’d qualify Luka’s voice as mature. But you’re right, she comes off way too strong when most times what the song calls for is a more vulnerable, achy, melancholic thing. You mentioned great performers. Another amazing one (and really underrated, imo) was Nina! I’ve seen some amazing performances with her.
And yeah, Eden is hard. It’s so heartfelt! It has so many emotions combined in one. However, it’s a wonder how it sounds so wrong with Luka. How most old songs sound off with her. Again, I think it’s the energy that’s off. Some people get caught up with the singers. Some can’t get past the fact Geike left. Some still miss Noemie. But, to me, Hooverphonic has always been Alex and Ray. The singers, all of them, have each brought their own special magic to the band. And that’s my personal problem with Luka. I’m still not sure if she adds anything or if she’s just a voice that sings songs. I guess time will tell...

@Clash NewsThe music was once much more demanding and had its own distinctive character. that could have been produced by everyone and comes very cheap therefore the esprit is unfortunately no longer there.

Every time they changed singer I was amazed to see how they managed to keep their sound... I guess it just had to happen at some point, and now they lost it. I'm not saying it's bad, I just can't recognize the band's trademark in this song, and it makes me sad.

The music is below average at best, compared to old Hooverphonic which was stellar... But hey, this is what sells, right?! I don't want to live on this planet anymore...
I'm gonna drown my sorrow with a blotter of LSD while listening to some old stellar Hooverphonic music that will project me into a different and much better realm. 😁

With every new release is becoming more and more obvious, that Geike was the source of your inspiration...
I never thought that I would say this, but either reunite, or stop releasing songs until you find a real new source of inspiration.
I am not asking to become the group you were in the 90's, but not this... Take a look at Portishead, or Massive Attack...

so.. I know people change, evolution and all that.. I think the girl has a nice voice, and the music is ok.. but not with the concept we have of hooverphonic, I think they should've change the band's name, if the concept and voice is different.. just going on a different direction is ok, but change the name of the band too.. all new, all fresh

Very pleasing visuals and colors, but a bit too messy action. Definitely have to hear the song independently from the video.
Edit: yes, when simply listened to, it´s very different. And there are some pretty good songs on the album, Feathers And Tar sounds very pleasing. It´s different from the past, but that must not be necessarily bad.

That's what side projects are for if you're desperate for change, otherwise you only make a fool of your fans. People like you are fanboys and suckers for everything that band does.
