  • The World War II epic “Dunkirk,” about the rescue of 400,000 Allied soldiers from Dunkirk, France, in 1940, is already getting Oscar buzz. Sir Kenneth Branagh, who plays the officer in charge, tells TODAY that the film benefited from Christopher Nolan’s direction and the fact that it was shot where the events actually occurred.

John Robinson you must not possess much knowledge about film, but he is an esteemed actor, writer, and director, known for roles and films such as Henry V, Valkyrie, Frankenstein, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Week with Marylin, Cinderella, Jack Ryan, Thor, Much Ado About Nothing, and Hamlet. You should look forward to his next film that he directs and stars in: Murder on the Orient Express--stellar cast and looks like it's going to be magnificent.

0:55 It's a lost battle not an epic rescue rather a catastrophic defeat.

yeah? well it meant that the war against the Nazi war machine continued till they were destroyed. not exactly "catastrophic".

My Grandfather was one of the men who escaped from the beaches and you can call it a catastrophe. But! What you have to remember is all those men who got home became the core of the British army and beleave me when I say they didn't forget because that's what drove them to go back four years later and finish the job they started. You see us British we are made of very sturdy stuff we continue when others fall and spur those back to fight when everyone has had enough.
