Western Champion on a test run & driver refresher from Kidderminster to Kidderminster via Swindon.
I have had to edit a couple of sound clips due to some inappropriate language
Out of view of the camera at Swindon while heading down towards Kemble past the old Swindon Works Champion gave a fine horn fanfare in recognition of its birth place back in 1963😎
Western Champion will be out again on,
14th April Paddington-Birmingham
1st June Birmingham-Paignton

I can remember seeing them as a youngster at Taplow in the early 70s . They were generally looking very rough and un loved . I've also heard it said that when travelling along at 60 mph they had a pronounced bounce that the crew didn't like much?
My favourite back then was Western Thunderer. It's nice to see Western Champion back on its old stamping ground bringing back the memories !

I too remember seeing them as a youngster in the 70s while holidaying in Devon & Cornwall every year & spending hours on Dainton bank with my Dad.Happy memories & great to see Champion back on the mainline.Thanks for watching & leaving a comment😎👍🏼

hi, great video, used to see loads of these 52s at Reading General in the 60s and 70s, nothing to touch them,! clowns at BR scrapped most of them without giving a second thought,[ all locos cost a lot to maintain ]

Brilliant video of the western my husbands firt memory of the western was in the mid sixties when. Western advocate turned up at Corby steelworks with a coal train, then she run back light engine that day he was dog in school,
