So proud that my cousin Paul also starred in this. Very sad that he died so young. With extensive work on and off Broadway, films, commercials and TV, he was such an under appreciated talented being. Still miss you Paul. Thanks for posting this Stephen.
Dear Ed, Paul was everything you said and more. He was a joy to work with and to know. It was a sad day when he was no longer with us. Thank you for the posting. Best, Stephen Verona
Dear Mr.Verona,Thank you for you kind words sir and a wonderful film!Paul and Sly quickly became friends on the set.Years later,Mr.Stallone asked him(in Paul's own words),"Hey meatball..you wanna be in my movie?!" Paul accepted and became a member of the Paradise Alley cast-great opening rooftop race with very memorable facial expressions :) I'm so happy that people are discovering and re-discovering your film which finally made it to DVD!It's nice to know Paul is remembered and recognized.Ed
The movie is just a snapshot of a moment in time...done very well. Sly is such a class act. He doesn't get enough credit on what he has given us over the years...John Rambo and Rocky alone are American icons...all from a guy who was told not to act due to his speech imperfections. Stallone is a guy I really admire.
My dear cousin,Paul Mace, played 'Wimpy'.He and Stallone had to teach Winkler how to be 'cool'.Later,Henry put that knowledge to use on Happy Days.Paul was an amazing singer, guitarist, actor, martial artist and like a brother to me.We were both only children. He lived in NYC and I in RI.We spent all of our vacation time together.Paul who was not a shy person really helped open me up and planted seeds that have blossomed into skills I use to this very day.You are sorely missed Paul and very loved.Ed
When I was real young I did an extra part in the first Rocky and years later I met Sly in the PHILADELPHIA SPECTRUM where I worked and he said do I know you, guests what he never forgot hes,a great guy.
This was the first movie I saw you in...and I fell in love when I was just a kid.....thank you Sly for keeping up your acting career! You have really influenced my life in a positive way~ Ti amo
Love it!! Love the writer & director, love ALL of the guys!! Like I said, I love this movie!! Thank ypu for sharing! Nice of Sly to be there!👍 Never forget where you came from!!
Lords of Flatbush is THE most realistic movie ever made about how life was in New York city in the 1950`s. No movie even touches it, not even close. That opening scene where the homeroom teacher is taking role call and screaming, holy shit man. That is exactly how it was. Yes I am an old fart.
This is so cool-so RAW, in fact. Stallone would sometimes cringe at a talk show host referring to Lords but you can see that even he has fond memories of it. I saw it when it came out and I thought it was terrific.
This movie was a big part of growing up, especially for those of us in the Tri-State area. Probably gave a little sense of pride to us working class kids.
I'm not sure what year this was filmed, but Sylvester Stallone has left his youth behind and is just turning into the grizzled but ruggedly handsome man he is today. It's actually quite remarkable.
This is weard? I'm 52, I love Stallone & Henry Winkler "The Fonze" Never saw Lord's of Flatbush or even knew about it? Have that movie on order now to watch. OMG I was 14 in 72!
Stallone is great! When you can get him one on one he is us (BEING THE COMMEN MAN) I loved him in DEATH RACE 2000 and of course ROCKY-NIGHT HAWKS-FIRST BLOOD...These are his Best and he knows it....Oh! Of course L.O.F.B. (love the wedding ring pawn shop scene) Sly thanks man for the movies I did not mention. My wife and I love yaz (OSCAR was funny)
Ask Columbia Pictures who made the prints. We gave them two superb quality prints and the negative which we made at Technicolor New York. When they ran off the original 200 prints they did it in Technicolor California where the lab was different as well as the temperature of the water, the chemicals and the equipment. When they made the DVD they never bothered to spend the money to correct the problems. You should write them. Best, Stephen Verona
I even remember a TV series based on the movie and Stanley was the main character and it was NOT Stallone and it was before ROCKY so I would have to believe Sly would have wanted that part on the TV show, but I don't even think the show lasted longer than that pilot episode. But I wonder if anybody even remembers this.
It’s funny they ask sly if he knew it would be a lasting movie . Most actors I’ve heard asked this question say no . I believe that he did know. Even then he had insight .
i love this movie. I especialy love the rooftop scene between Stanley and Chico. I just would like to know why the clarity is so poor and some of the dialouge tough to hear.
@JackHauss Well.. i have to admid that i´m much younger than you and i sadly couln´t live in the fifties. But if i compare "The Lords of flatbush" with another Movie created in the fifties just like "High School Caesar" then i´m not that sure if "The Lords of flatbush "is realy that "Realistic" like you say. Tell me: did youth realy wear that tight jeans in the fifties? I´m Sorry if i´m sounding a bit arrogant, but i just like to compare details.
The movie starts off pretty well, but as it goes on, it runs out of steam...but, it's almost has a cult-like status...Sly getting up there in age, but still pretty fit...

Your cousin is missed. So much potential in a young man. May he rest in peace.
Thanks for your kind words.I really would have enjoyed growing old with him.We always had so many laughs together.
Amazing moving....saw it when it when it first came out in 74 and still watch it today
Love how Sly is so humble he was a starving artist and he remembers his roots. Great interview
sly is so humble for such a huge star he never forgets his roots, true legend!

Always humble and gracious. And a genuine, unique artist. One of the greats.

He was a good actor,I remember him also in Panic in Neddle Park,I am sorry for your loss.

The fact that Stallone showed up for the launch of this book says a lot about the man.
I heard his pay for this movie was 25 free t-shirts
Richard Gere was supposed to be in this. ..but him & Sly couldn't get along

Great movie!
Love this film.
God Bless OLE Brooklyn !
Great stuff...thanks for posting.
If you love this movie, the book is well worth buying. A real easy read, like Verona is in the room telling you the stories!

Great movie and on TH-cam.

If you haven't seen The Lords of Flatbush It is a must watch.
I remember watching this movie at the drive in theatre. I was 9 years old. Hadnt seen it since until I saw it on Cinemax a couple of years ago.
great video
The only problem with this post is that it is too short! leaves you wanting more.
Great movie Stallone is a legend.
Great movie

400 million did great for yourself rocko man's man 🥊
history i never knew!
Just watched it on Amazon Prime
Well I'm much younger then because I was born in 1977 lol,I got into "Lords Of Flatbush" because of my friend Peter Steele & Johnny Kelly.
I even remember a TV series based on the movie and Stanley was the main character and it was NOT Stallone and it was before ROCKY so I would have to believe Sly would have wanted that part on the TV show, but I don't even think the show lasted longer than that pilot episode. Hey, if I could look like that when I`m pushing 70 I`d kiss the ground I walk on.
The original Fonzie character appeared in that film. Wow, of course Henry Winkler in classic character.
Did anyone noticed Stallone's facial resemblance go *Joan Cusack* 😂😂😂
Didn't he also do the writing stuff on *"The Lords of Flatbush"*

Sly is a good guy.
2:10 Savvy Sly!
FRANK LEONE and LINCOLN HAWK his best characters just after rocko
“I don’t want him!”
Hahaha!

Very underrated film 😎
3:24 Ric Flair

Hey, hey, what do you say?...
L.O.F is ok but it's caught ackwardly between realism and nostalgia and never finds the right tone.
The Wanderers was far more consistent overall.
;-)
sly is god
