I have considered myself “not very religious” even though I believe in God and have been active in church in the past. I think I’ve felt “not very religious” because I haven’t found the right church. This is the right church for me. The only problem is I don’t live in New York! Please keep these virtual services going post pandemic. ♥️

I found the lyrics at 6:53 to be rather awkward, in an otherwise lovely music service. I was getting my praise on to the beautiful music and then to have something so literal and topical brought up ("Run Congress run the MAGA mob is angry Trump said come.") was jolting. For me, church is a refuge from the partisan politics that contaminate so many other parts of American life right now. Respectfully, I submit that that addition to the song was misguided and frankly rather tacky.

Hey thanks for your thoughts! I wrote that song. The song has something that is not meant as anything other then addressing the truth of what happened. And how we cry for peace. If you find it tacky, you find it tacky. And feel free to not have to watch. I totally get it. Some of us, especially musicians and artists actually use our arts and voices as worship to lament and actually address pain we feel, not just trying to escape it. Peace be with you and happy to be tacky! Much love, David

That was spot on and spoken truthfully. I would walk out of any church service today that fails to address the truth of the current situation.

And the song was gorgeous. Thank you for writing it.

@@davidgungor I live in California and this summer I was agonized over a 250-year-old church being burned (The San Gabriel Mission). It deeply grieved me. But if I was grooving out to a worship song and suddenly a line gets dropped that's like "The angry left wing mob is burning our churches" I'd be a bit put-off. I appreciate your music, but I found that part today to be explicit.

I totally get it. The whole song always deals with issues today. Look up the original and it's even more upsetting. And the sentiment of escaping the reality of our lives is so not our identity as a church. So I respect the pushback. Just know that the reaction of discomfort is actually what I would be going for. And response of prayer and lament. So peace with you and thanks for the encouragement!
