They should honestly age him up if he were to make an apperance, and include him as more of a mentor figure that won't absorb all the screen time if they don't give him a proper send-off from the series. I haven't kept up with the anime much at all, but if they want a chance to explore new characters then they should focus on making them ones the viewers will appreciate instead of having Ash as a sort of "security deposit" if things go south.
i agree with growing him up but to make him a side character maybe not, have you seen boruto? that shit makes naruto like a backround character and the only thing that remains is his love for ramen, although people change it just feels off to me and ash is no different, this is my personal opinion though instead i hope they take dragon ball route where goku is still the main character but putting his sons in the spotlight as well then ash as main character helping train the other new characters would be more interesting to me

Wait, where did you read that? If this is true, this is music to my ears. Pokemon is such a huge franchise that they were doing themselves a disservice by having just one storyline. I would love for Ash to keep his storyline and still have spin-off series with endless possibilities. Ash has always performed well to the success of the franchise so it's not a bad thing to keep him around.
They do need to keep him on in some capacity. I know a lot of people aren't excited to see him stay, but a lot of people aren't exactly excited to see him go either. It's a mixed bag of chips when it comes to this. So, like you said, the best way to retain both sides is to still utilize Ash to some capacity, perhaps make him older in the series, only being talked about, or perhaps being idolized by the main characters of the new series, while also following some one-off adventures in special movies set in the alternate continuity. Either way, Ash needs to stay relevant in some capacity to honor old pokemon fans who grew up on the stories he was in, such as the generation who adored X and Y. They may be teens now, but pokemon is a timeless series. It would be sorta ignorant to just throw him away.

I get what you're saying, but I'm part of the older fanbase and have continued to love Ash's storyline. I didn't care too much about Journeys but that's only because they changed up the formula too much and made every episode a epic journey. Like damn, how many legendaries can you encounter in such a short time period? And the Go mechanic of endlessly throwing Pokeballs without battling totally sucked too.
They messed up the Pokémon Go anime adaptation. Missed opportunity there. They had him do an entire series of Pokémon Go PVP while making him partner with a noob that we all hated. If Ash is supposed to represent us the player, then he should be the one trying out Pokémon Go as a msg player. Have him meetup with Professor Willow and win duo raids with Gary. The two of them are high enough level that they can duo it comfortably.
The fact that they are hinting Ash may return may just be their subtle way of covering the franchise's butts. If this new anime bombs for whatever reason, they are leaving the door open that they might just bring back Ash again.

The pokemon craze is a juggernaut, so when a new one comes out, an innumerable amount of people both old and new buy it during its height. With the hype around a true open world pokemon game and the high sales of the switch in general, it does make sense that they sold so quickly though.
If they wanna make the anime work they should take notes from Inazuma eleven they had the main character grow older and he mentored the kids on soccer so it wouldn't hurt for them to try that with Ash.
I grew up with most of this show. It got so big that my old school had to ban Pokémon cards. To see the ending of this show the ending of Ash and the torch being passed on to a new generation all I can say is “A New Journey Begins”
I really do hope that they age Ash up. It has been about 26 years since Pokemon started and 9 Pokemon Generations already so it is physically impossible for one main character to meet so many Pokemon and battle many trainers without aging at all. Normally it takes about 1 year to catch many Pokemon and beat Gym Leaders and the Pokemon League in 1 Pokemon Generation.
They could have been slowly aging Ash up counting the number of days actually going by in episodes assuming no in between time for each episode and Ash could have still been only 15 or 16 by now and no one would have ever mocked it! In fact the fans would have felt more connected since Ash was aging somewhat and yet the new fans would still have a main character close to their age. Ash should have reached age 11 after Johto I guess. 12 after the battle frontier. And well I haven't done the math but probably either 13 or 14 during XYZ! Imagine that age Ash and Serena going around Kalos! Really changes things especially with that kiss at the end! I swear getting rid of Serena from the cast was a huge mistake!!!

I developed a head canon over the years that, if we can take the original movies as canon, running into Celebi and Dialga (more than once for both) could have done some timey-wimey shenanigans to his aging (how he wouldn’t question the fact is another issue altogether). It could also explain why Misty, Brock, and Dawn didn’t seem to age either lol Though Professor Oak did age considering Pokémon 4ever,and Delia Ketchum stayed young without interacting with time-related legendaries, so ehhh 🤷♂️

Personally I think Ash should have been dropped as the main character after Gen 2, only brining him back occasionally as a cameo. Now they've kept him for as long as they have, it feels weird to drop him at all, but now they have dropped him, I wish they would just let him rest and just bring him back for the odd cameo and put much more though and energy into the new leads so that they can be their best selves, not just some filler characters until Ash is back in the main seat again.

I much prefer if ash is seen by the new protagonist as a goal like the champions also would like ash to finally have the respect he deserves with people of this world since hr is already a rank above normal champions it would make sense that as a pokemon in Champions their still like a hierchy like a new champion just got thru the elite 4 and primamary champion paldea and in future series regions maybe lower in rank then the first 8 region because of senriority and also battle ranking

I don't know about others but I was sad when I heard it'll be last time I'll be seeing Pikachu and Ash. I am 26 years and now a doctor. My whole childhood revolved around Pokémon and they were important to me. Though I lost interest after Sinnoh and had it back for Kalos but still.. I want Ash and Pikachu to be there.
I kinda wish they stoped using ash and instead try to have pokemon series that focus on different people with slightly different goal. theres so many trainers with so many different stories to them, not all want to be the champion but they still have really cool stuff going on!

Imagine the new protags running into an age-upped Ash who was just roaming around the world with Pikachu and then in one epic scene shows the new protags what it means to possess the title of 'World Champion'. Of course, you can add the Team Rocket trio to add to the nostalgia. Kind of like a very skilled supporting character the protags run into every now and then, just like how Ash somehow runs into very skilled Trainers during his journey every now and then.
Think they have realized it would be a big mistake to write ash off for good seeing as a majority or at least a shit load of the fan base are ash fans. It would be a big mistake to end his character due to loss of viewers which I personally think will happen. I don’t think it will be as popular as it used to be without Ash as main character but that’s just my opinion

The pokemon craze is a juggernaut, so when a new one comes out, an innumerable amount of people both old and new buy it during its height. They aren't games you can sit on because certain aspects encourage you buy them immediately or you can't pursue the dream of 'catching them all'.
@@9751matt The top 5 games are not all the most recent though. Number 1 is still red/blue/green, 2 is sword and shield, 3 is gold/silver. Then 4 is SV, and 5 is the original diamond/pearl. These results are as of Feb 2023. It's a pretty interesting mix!
With the hype around a true open world pokemon game and the high sales of the switch in general, it does make sense that they sold so quickly though.
If they wanna make the anime work they should take notes from Inazuma eleven they had the main character grow older and he mentored the kids on soccer so it wouldn't hurt for them to try that with Ash.

I really do hope that they age Ash up. It has been about 26 years since Pokemon started and 9 Pokemon Generations already so it is physically impossible for one main character to meet so many Pokemon and battle many trainers without aging at all. Normally it takes about 1 year to catch many Pokemon and beat Gym Leaders and the Pokemon League in 1 Pokemon Generation.
They could have been slowly aging Ash up counting the number of days actually going by in episodes assuming no in between time for each episode and Ash could have still been only 15 or 16 by now and no one would have ever mocked it! In fact the fans would have felt more connected since Ash was aging somewhat and yet the new fans would still have a main character close to their age. Ash should have reached age 11 after Johto I guess. 12 after the battle frontier. And well I haven't done the math but probably either 13 or 14 during XYZ! Imagine that age Ash and Serena going around Kalos! Really changes things especially with that kiss at the end! I swear getting rid of Serena from the cast was a huge mistake!!!
@S B Keel yeah Ash should have been 15 or 16 in X and Y, and its my favourite season, with that being a bog part if it since Ash really seemed to be growing and maturing. Then Sun and Moon happened and they hit the reset button
I developed a head canon over the years that, if we can take the original movies as canon, running into Celebi and Dialga (more than once for both) could have done some timey-wimey shenanigans to his aging (how he wouldn’t question the fact is another issue altogether).
It could also explain why Misty, Brock, and Dawn didn’t seem to age either lol

I’d try to treat it like how Devil May Cry handled Dante in DMC 4 and 5, have Ash appear every now and then to help out or give some advice, but have the main focus be on the two main characters

Personally I think Ash should have been dropped as the main character after Gen 2, only brining him back occasionally as a cameo. Now they've kept him for as long as they have, it feels weird to drop him at all, but now they have dropped him, I wish they would just let him rest and just bring him back for the odd cameo and put much more though and energy into the new leads so that they can be their best selves, not just some filler characters until Ash is back in the main seat again.

Imagine the new protags running into an age-upped Ash who was just roaming around the world with Pikachu and then in one epic scene shows the new protags what it means to possess the title of 'World Champion'. Of course, you can add the Team Rocket trio to add to the nostalgia. Kind of like a very skilled supporting character the protags run into every now and then, just like how Ash somehow runs into very skilled Trainers during his journey every now and then.
