The struggle is real this year 😒 Were trying to get our cows and calves out but cant get a dry spell at all. Do you think its warm enough to spread fert? Would you go by temperatures or do you just spread this time of year regardless?
Always wondered how farmers fertilize a field without gps ie.. how do you know were your going and not overlapping or missing parts because a grass field is not like a tillage field with tramlines to show the way.
Farming never simple or easy . I'm from Wicklow , I'm in the Atlas Mountains Morocco ( edge of the Sahara), 3½ from Dub ✈️. No tractors or Silage cutting down here. Donkeys, Mules & Oxe. Come on down here & see how ya get on lol. Bring some newspapers, the goats love that, especially in summer time, when no weeds ta eat 🤠
Hi Andrew great video as usual I have just purchased a spreader similar to yours and I was wondering if you could recommend a cheap and cheerful gps to go with it. I know that there’s some free gps apps but it would be nice to have your opinion on it.
Cheapest you should actually buy is probably field bee which is £1500. My GPS systems are obviously better but are £2500, so unless you value the RTK or the nutrient management isn't "cheap" 😅
I sometimes wonder about all this modern technology coming into farming such as GPS etc trying to make everything perfect but at the end of the day a lot of the things we do in farming is governed by the weather /ground conditions ........as you rightly say if you see a wet spot .....avoid it.......if it's steep......avoid it. I think there's a risk your going to lose some of your fertiliser to leaching though with the ground so wet........i bet the Environment Agency are cursing the ones out spreading early
Nice to see someone with a big herd so determined to get them out grazing, super video 👌
Thanks! It's difficult but I really like grazing. Suits my priorities even if it doesn't make me as much money as houses 365
Tracks are acceptable, ideal tyres for the job also as they aren’t too sharp. I got spreading last week of February.

Spread by time of year! It makes a really obvious difference! Give it a try and some fields next year!

I was using GPS, it's very possible to do it without gps in most cases.
@FarmTheoryNI yea but what im wondering is how accurate you could be doing it without gps or does that accuracy just come from the farmers experience.
You have good land I can't go in side with my land like that and you have no rushes in land keep up good work

Love the big case.
A lot to be said for a quad sower in years like these lol
100% right to go with that. The damage done was minimal to be honest, and you will reap the rewards in a couple of weeks. Fair play
Urea dosent grow grass when it in the bag .Best to have a go .Cheers
Nor the river
If fert spreader leaves tracks look at grass utilisation of N. In our conditions in Australia water logged soils struggle to justify N applications
The grass is growing so it can use the N. That's my logic.
Would you ever consider cutting those tall hedges? Maybe help with drying up ground?
Good idea, probably should do that, then be paid to let them grow again in a year or two. 😆
Big set of wide tyres on the back will help with the tracks
Would a pair of dual wheels be a wise investment for the puma? Or a pair of flotation wheels
Not sure, them xeobibs are a brilliant tyre!
@FarmTheoryNI still a pair of duals would be a Massive help especially on reseeded land
Im not sure about fertiliser with it being so cold and wet, i know its urea but if its too wet to travel surely its too wet to be spreading
It makes a big difference to how much grass you have in April. Normally I try and get feet out early February!
nice video, imperfect decisions but that are decisions to make, also only a quick wash of the windows for see the tracks much better jaja
Do you use protected urea our coop has a sustainability bonus of 150 a ton on it
Absolutely not! Total waste of money... We get lots of rain!

Hi Andrew, any opinion on AgOpenGPS? Need to get a gps and don’t know should I go with an off the shelf one or get a tablet etc and AgOpenGPS
Are your tracks 24m or 48m apart?
24m!
What percent of grazing platform is grazed so far. Im only out by day fulltime out by paddys day
0% and it will be 0% for another few weeks!
Would you not get someone in with a quad spreader
Honestly they would do as much damage
No quad the only way
@@counietomNonsense. The quad will bog and it would take you days to spread 70ac. We sold ours years ago.
Good see ya weather.good leave farming galot easier
Wee don’t get cows Out in till may to wet to even think of poutin them out elru
Roughly 2 units per kg so 50kg is 40 units (50x2 /2.471) 👍🏻
Lot more gain from the tracks at 24m than lads spreading slurry with 2500g and 7.5M dribble bars
I know!!! 😅 Blows my mind!
Ya not but in sheep.grase ground for winter
@gerrymulligan2602 what would the point be in that? End up with zero grass in spring 🙄
Kepak / Mc Carmen's
#DoubleJobbing 🤣 😂
It's my brother's! Great jacket!
Ye wash it a way more like 😮
I will show the results if I can see any! 😅
@FarmTheoryNI good luck are fertilizer hasn't arrived yet. 👍🏻
I woood have watched Ervin if the wether isn’t go less mess
Weather saving you from sowing onto cold ground total waste
Didn't no had case taugh.all massy. Some ground if down longford need no way.get out
Too early ground too cold I would say it's a total waste of moey
Soil temp 9 degrees around here absolute perfect conditions for urea , south east
Urea is for early spring, it will grow grass no problem, suppose you cut the 1st cut in July 🤣
If you don't get it out now you'll be in trouble in April for grass. In saying that I haven't got ours out yet but soon now
How can I prove it to you. 😅

A lot of misconceptions around leaching and how it works. I should probably do some more research and do a video on it
Good on you, not too many tracks. Only criticism I have is your use of the word sowing 🙈
Sorry! Spreading! 😆
@@FarmTheoryNI 🤣🤣🤣👍👍
