Great interview! I’m a civil rights attorney in Brooklyn, NY, who started skating in 1992. I recently spoke at a BLM rally in BK and am glad to see your podcast address important issues of the day and correlate it with the blading community. The blading community can provide society with a good example of what it means to be accepting of differences and embrace diversity. Please keep up the great work.

Why does the us export its problems round the world? Over here in the uk race relations were doing fine and since Black Lives Matter appeared they have never been worse. Shame.

At the 3:47 mark of the linked video - wholly shit SHIMA!!! I found that wall ride Azikiwee Anderson was talking about on the JUMP STREET PODCAST with Austin Paz and Billy O' Neil. He thought he was gonna watch someone die that day. Shima survived!!! th-cam.com/video/upN7bdED4VI/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for your contributions to the sport of Blading Azikiwee!! Blading is a lifestyle for the betterment of society as a whole. "We champion diversity" - Azikiwee Anderson.

Man I wish I could've caught this live. I had a question I've always wanted to ask Azikiwee:
During the summer of 2001, when I was 12, I attended the Eisenberg's skate camp in Dallas. Azikiwee was the camp director. Most of the counselor's/instructors were 20-something pro skaters and he was definitely the most grown up and straight laced guy there. He really held everything together and made sure things ran smoothly.
There was a rumor that one day during one of the sessions, a few of the instructors climbed up on the roof of the park to smoke weed, but ended up falling through the roof into the staff bathroom - where Azikiwee was on the toilet. I never found out if it was true or not, and idk he would even answer the question, but it would be great to be able to ask. So if anyone runs into him, ask him if anyone ever crashed through a roof on him while he was taking a shit.
P.S. - Brian Aragon attended the camp with me that year - it was the last year before he turned pro and he blew all of us out of the water - including the pros. He got first place in the competition that year...I got second. He was the one who told me the story.

I was there for that exact camp session that exact year.I was in Aragon,s group. Grew up skating around Aragon in Colorado. Ashby, Spizer, Corky were there. I'm pretty sure that happened. I remember Azikiwee showing us his first prototype run of the Able frames there. Ashby let me ride his prototype Usd psirus' the whole week cause he hated them but needed them to look like he used them cause he was all about the classic thrones.

@@deadband_fpv6709 that's such a trip. I feel like I remember your name but I could be making it up. In any case, I'm glad you heard that too because I love to believe that it's true. I have a lot of fond memories of that trip... playing mini basketball with Kevin Gillan at one of those pizza/game places, going to see the scooby doo movie with he whole crew, skating from sun up to sun down. That was my last big childhood memory before 9/11 and shit changed forever. Thanks for jumping in!
P.s. I'm pretty sure it was Spizer that fell through the roof. I bought the psirus' that year and they were garbage

Im 31 and been skating since 2001. Love to see and hear these stories from the first generation and second generation skaters like Azikiwee. Id say my 2000/2001 third generation of skaters needs to know their roots. VG20 ROOTs style XD. before I took a break from skating (10-17') I had a pair of Cult 6's with the all white ABLE frames. I now have all black SL's from a few years ago.

This was so good. One of your best interviews guys. So cool to hear from a guy that really helped shape the industry. Would love some more of these with people that played such an important role but were more behind the scenes.

I'd give a whole lot of something to be able to bolt up another set of Able frames on my skates. Little me wanted nothing more than to be on that team.

So cool you were behind the huge soul plate TRS APLHA's? All white with a little grey and black accents. Basically Chris Farmer skated them in his first section in the Mindgame WORDS video.

  • @kingrando
    @kingrando 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hehe, I don't want to say it, because the message Azikiwee is sharing is far better.
If you are "All in" and they call you, you don't have an option to fold. They have you potentially beat, and you need to get lucky.
If it was described as betting the pot, and that is half your stack, then someone shoved all in, then folded.... yeh, not the best story. Haha
Basically, bet your hand (Hopefully in a profitable way, don't go broke :-), see how it plays out and act from there is the best moral of the story.
