I had a tuber called maarn i ordered from swan Island and the center is always open, all the others I see online, all have a closed center. kept it anyways. They still make good cut flowers. Now that i see your maarn, my stems are green and not dark like yours.

@@cutflower36 it may still be the same variety but sometimes there is so much variation among them! You never know what you’re going to get 💁🏻‍♀️

Some varieties don't like heat and some don't like cold. They blow out when not happy.

That very odd quality of Jennifers wedding mine came out beautiful and large and full size. Maybe you need more hours of sunlight. I'm in western Pennsylvania.. zone 5B. I think you would get bigger blooms and better quality of plants if you use 5-7 gallon pots oer tuber.

You are probably right!! I will definitely be using larger pots plus LOTS of feed in the future...

I live in zone 6a. If I plant mine in a plastic pot can I just bring pot and all inside to store for the winter?

I think that might work! I might try something similar this year. As long as it doesn’t get too moist or too dry they should be ok.

Some dahlia varieties are more prone to blowing centers when there are environmental stressors (heat, not enough moisture, etc.) Dahlias shortly after it was brought over to Europe from Mexico all did this but it's been mostly bred out. However with climate change, we are facing some new extremes, so I'm curious how this will pan out for their bloom quality. Dahlias originated from very temperate mountainous region of Mexico.

Good to know about the environmental stressors! I did a pretty ok job keeping up with watering but haven't quite figured out how to control the weather 😅Thanks for the info!

Beautiful. How long do the flowers last?

Once they start blooming (late July or August for me), they will keep on going until the first hard frost if you keep deadheading. Each bloom itself lasts for several days at least!
