Its kinda sad that people, usually Muricans constantly complain about Konami and pachinko, when its literally a huge massive thing in Japan where Konami exists and was always what made Konami the most money.....They never really made massive amounts of money on video games, especially console games that were named anything other than Metal Gear Solid.... They don't really care about what Muricans think about pachinko, people in Japan love the hell out of it
As an old person now watching the first arcade game footage just took me back to Peter Pipers Pizza playing this game scarring down my pizza as fast as I could and then running back to the arcade if I had any quarters left.
Dude, you just earned another sub!!! I can't wait for the release of the cowabunga edition as well as shredder's revenge!!! I have both on pre-order (not something I typically do) and will enjoy every turtle moment (with a slice of pizza) and relive most most nostalgic moments in gaming history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You hit the nail on the head on why I'm also most exciting to play the original arcade game. While Turtles in Time is a step up in quality and gameplay, the fact that it came out during the time of the SNES meant that the home version got pretty close to what the arcade delivered. The NES port of the first arcade game just didn't cut it. Even though it was a huge step up from the first TMNT game on the NES. It just couldn't match the overall quality of the arcade game. If you didn't have a MAME emulator, the only other time I can remember getting the original arcade game was back on the Xbox 360. Can't wait for this collection and great video btw. Nice presentation with voice-over and timestamps.
Completely agree. I had initially misread the games included and thought that they were just giving us the NES arcade game…I remember being 10-11, walking into some department store, and seeing the NES Arcade Game on a shelf. I had no idea that it was being released, and was obsessed with the actual arcade machine. In my house, you MAYBE hit one game on your birthday, two at Christmas, and sometimes a wild card purchase if you aced a test or something like that. I somehow managed to convince my mom to get it for me despite it not being Christmas, birthday, or anything else special. At the time, I lived it…I played it everyday until my controller was all sweaty and my eyes hurt. But even then, it just didn’t cut ig, and we all knew it. Turtles in Time was kind of a slap in the face, because now we had a machine that could have given us a better port of the original, but the powers that were refused. In college, (1998), I used the super fast Ethernet (wow!!) to download an awful rom if it; there was no sound and the keyboard controls were weird…the animation was also really pixelated and jerky. That was on my compaq predation with 16megs of RAM and a 200 pentium….man. I never had Xbox live. I had the free PlayStation online, but I just refused to pay Microsoft anything more when Sony did it for free. So I never have had a home version of the real arcade game. I messed my life up awhile ago and am finally rebuilding it now; I do t even have a game system of any type atm. But I shall. Shell hahaha sorry. And when I do, I am grabbing an old fashioned physical copy of this damned thing. Slainte
You can also unlock the original arcade game on the 2003 PS2 game, I think the second one. Only problem was you couldn't pick your turtle because it operated exactly like the arcade rom, player 1 is Leo etc.
but tmnt 2 the arcade game on nes had the auto scroll street surfing level.. it is there .. they added two levels with two boss fights but they didn't take out the auto scroll level. also turtles in time arcade didn't have the super shredder, it had regular shredder who played totally different than the snes version.
I’ve already played a good chunk of these games, so I’m going to play in my headcanon’s rough chronological order for these games: 1) TMNT Arcade (& NES version) 2) Hyperstone Heist/Return of the Shredder 3) Turtles in Time (Arcade & SNES) 4) The Manhattan Project 5) The Game Boy titles (Fall of the Foot Clan, Back From the Sewers, Radical Rescue) 6) The Tournament Fighters games (NES, Genesis, SNES) 7) TMNT NES I feel like that’s a pretty good “recommended” play order too, but move TMNT NES in front of the Tournament Fighters - probably after The Manhattan Project, since The Manhattan Project is probably the most difficult of the Beat ‘em ups and so it might make a smoother transition to TMNT NES
Turtles in time was the first game I ever beat. 2 was one of my favorites but I only ever owned 1, 3 and 4. Had a friend who had 2 and a working NES so that's how we became friends lol
I was born in the '70s so I remember these as new games. I was very excited to get that NES version of the arcade game it was pretty good back then. Surprising never made it to the Genesis.
I always love the older people who hilariously pretend that beating NES games was some badge of honor when anyone knows that A there were ALOT of terrible games on the NES, Ninja Turtles being one of them and B ALOT of games were purposely made unfairly hard in the US because Nintendo and game publishers wanted to try and combat video game rentals....... Its really nothing astonishing to beat a poorly made or a artificially made harder game.

I still have all my old Game Boy games, but the only Turtles game I have is Fall of the Foot Clan. Loved it - I may have to pick this collection up, but $150 is a bit much for the collector's edition.
For anyone that will be picking this up on PlayStation don't forget about Share Play. Lots of people forget about this feature, but if you have a decent enough internet connection you can play any game together.
Didn’t know that! Makes sense though considering Nintendo’s stance on religious icons (supposedly why it took so long for Binding of Isaac to hit their platforms)
I'll finally get to play the NES Tournament Fighters. Other than that, I already have all of the home games on original cartridge. May sound like it's not worth it for me, but considering the NES Tournament Fighters goes for $250 for a loose cart, yeah, the price is worth it.
Oh, and I'd totally rate Radical Rescue higher. It's a good early Metroidvania, made by developers who would go on just a few years later to make Symphony of the Night, one of the definitive examples of the genre. It's also pretty rare and therefore a game many haven't actually played.
I think Radical Rescue is going to be a dark horse for a lot of people. It was one of my favorites as a kid and is a great Metroidvania type of game. It's a nice palette changer alongside the others.

Haven't played Shredder's Revenge because it hasn't released the physical copy, comes out September 27. Buying games digitally is a waste of money in my opinion because you can never resell them when you're done and you never really own them because when that game store shuts down you'll never be able to download them again unless you have it saved on your console and then hope your hard drive doesn't fail.
Excellent review of each classic, but I gotta correct a small error. Throwing enemies towards the screen in the SNES Turtles in Time is not Mode 7. Mode 7 could only be applied to backgrounds, not individual sprites. If you watch closely, the animation is just three steps of pre-drawn size. The last few frames are of a previously scaled up sprite, sure, but there is no Mode 7 applied to the sprite itself.
I honestly don't care if any of these games have online mode so I'm not sure changed it got it fine it's cool but I haven't played these games in years so I'm just happy to jump back into them online or not so I don't feel short-changed that's just my opinion you can feel how you want to
The SNES version of TMNT Turtles in time added the Technodrome as an additional level which I only found out about recently so you got a bit more game for the SNES. But of course it's one or the other. The second is SNES tournament fighters. Can't get much better then that.
I'd have been satisfied with 4 functional online games. But clearly online programming is not Digital Eclipse's specialty because playing any of these games online is a nightmare of slowdown, lag and sound buggery.
That's what I keep hearing as well, especially in regards to the TMNT arcade game. Rumor has it the TMNT theme couldn't be used so they replaced it as well as the "Pizza Time" song in Turtles in Time. If that's the case then that sucks royally.
@@alucard624 It's a new recording of the theme, but the difference is barely noticeable. And Pizza Power is still in the arcade Turtles in Time. These are literally the same versions used for the Arcade 1Up cabinets, and the new recording of the theme for the first one is the only change.
Just watched a play thru on the cowabunga collection. Pizza power song is indeed in there but the arcade game before it opening theme song appears to be re done
If Konami did a retraux arcade game based on Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, what would the game look like and what hardware would it use for early 90s Konami or even Toaplan hardware?
This is a nice collection but it’s definitely not worth $40 tho I can see maybe $14.99-19.99. But that’s it now if it came with every tmnt video game ever made on consoles including shredders revenge then it would be worth $40.
@18.10 you clearly not a fan of fighting games, smh. You gave Tournament Fighters for snes (the only real version imo) a C+, ha ha. Bredda that is clearly an A+ for fun factor! I had a blast playing that game by myself and with friends. Even in 2000 was still playing and enjoying it. One of the best fighting games of the 90s! hands down! on par with Street Fighter. Tora is a Polar Bear not a wolf. Easy mistake to make, we all did it. Also, you're not British so you got not excuse for saying Snes. It's S.N.E.S. or Super NES
Does this collection come with the two-player version of the arcade game? Because if it's a four-player only you're stuck with Leonardo if you're playing as player one. The original arcade 4 player version did not have a character select where the two-player did.
TMNT 3 NES is a better game than TMNT 2...i replayed tmnt 2 NES version recently and every character being the same made it boring...TMNT 1 is probably the best turtles game on the NES they should of a made a sequel to that one.
I wonder if you could call something "The Manhattan Project" these days, without people being triggered. Shredder's Revenge probably would have some controversy or negative news coverage about it if they called it that instead.
I have shredders revenge. And I'm overjoyed. So it hurts to say, I may have to pass on this game-due to the lack of of multi player online. I was completely excited hoping for multiple online play for hyperstone...and turtles 3.. :( I'll stick with shredders revenger
No. For one thing Shredder's Revenge was developed by a different company and it really wouldn't make any sense to release a new game and then include it among a collection of old games just a few months later.
There is online multiplayer for the first arcade game (but not the NES version), the arcade version of Turtles in Time (but not the SNES version), Hyperstone Heist, and the SNES version of Tournament Fighters (but not the Genesis or NES versions, which are nowhere near as good anyway). The real disappointment is the lack of online multiplayer for TMNT III for the NES. The rest of the games were one-player only anyway.
Konami struck gold with Turtles, The Simpsons, and X Men. It's a shame that arcades are an afterthought to their pachinko and slot machines now.

I have shredders revenge. And I'm overjoyed. So it hurts to say, I may have to pass on this game-due to the lack of of multi player online. I was completely excited hoping for multiple online play for hyperstone...and turtles 3.. :( I'll stick with shredders revenger
I own all of these. Is there a reason for me to buy this?
Will it have shredders revenge
No. For one thing Shredder's Revenge was developed by a different company and it really wouldn't make any sense to release a new game and then include it among a collection of old games just a few months later.
My bet is that this is nothing more than roms wrapped with an emulator.
So it'd no online play at all for any of the games
Tournament Fighters will have online play apparently.
S*** action figures nowadays cost $150
