In interviews etc. he's commented on how none of this was natural, just work. Initially he wanted to be a rock lead singer... then his voice came in and that plan evaporated. He said to try out for parts he needed to sing tenor, so stood in front of a mirror and recorded and just kept trying until finally it started sounding good. Has acknowledged doing 70 or more takes to get something right even now. (VP is based in Orlando, and that's where Layne, Eli, Earl, Tony and he grew up. I think they all worked for Disney... Geoff worked for Universal for 10 years. So the theatricality, the sense of entertainment and fun is deeply instilled in these guys.) Hard work to make it look so easy...

      Wonder what character he(s) portrayed?

    • @maeco7
      @maeco7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@JDubReacts He's apparently done a ton of live shows in the parks - Frankenstein (for 10 years) in the Beetlejuice Graveyard Review (with his wife, actually!), Dapper Dans, Blues Brothers, a Ghostbusters thing... Not sure of the others off-hand.

I love how you are doing your reactions - you know more than I would recognize, so I subscribed to your channel when I found out, that you have more of Geoff and Voiceplay

His voice is one of the smoothest ever I think. At any pitch. So soothing. I understand that this song means a lot him but I don't know the story behind it. Geoff claims to be a baritone but has worked on his tenor and bass range.

He has what I consider to be a very pure and clean tone; well, when he isn't in character lol. That's what makes me like his voice so much. Don't get me wrong, I love TIm Faust and Avi Kaplan as well (and so many others) for each of their unique sounds respectively.

You should hear his latest two videos, Misty Mountain Cold, (where he plays as 4 different characters), and House of The Rising Sun. He is so amazing.

Geoff Castellucci is so ridiculously talented. I agree; he never disappoints, and generally exceeds expectations. He is one of the few things I thank the TH-cam algorithm for throwing my way, because it led to the best of rabbitholes. Anything by him, or by VoicePlay, that you care to react to, I will be watching. I enjoy your commentary.
Oddly, the band I'm about to recommend to you is one that I found in part due to my fascination with the subharmonic notes that Geoff is able to perform. As it turns out, the subharmonic technique is somewhat similar to some Mongolian throat singing techniques (I'm speaking particularly the khoomei technique; sygyt is very, very different). Going down *that* rabbit hole led me to the Hu band. Mongolian folk metal, if you can believe it, and it's absolutely amazing. They use traditional instruments alongside modern guitars, and utilize throat singing in the music. It's some of the most stirring music you'll ever hear, touching something deeply primal buried inside us. Also, the musicians in the band are no slouches; Nyamjantsan Galsanjamts (Jaya) taught at the Mongolian State Music And Dance Conservatory for a decade. It's fascinating stuff, a new genre they've invented, and I can guarantee you've heard nothing like it before.
A lot of people start with Wolf Totem. You need a war song? That's a damn fine war song. Yuve Yuve Yu is one of my favorites though (be sure and turn on the CC, as translations are provided for all their songs), as well as Sugaan Essena, which is song used in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It's the one song they don't perform in Mongolian, instead performing it in a language created specifically for the Star Wars universe along with the game creators. And sorry, but they beat Mos Eisley's band, hands-down.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. Never heard of the Hu Band, but you make them sound awesome. You'd make a good PR rep for them :). I'll add them to my list most definitely. Always seeking new and interesting music.

His voice is sooo smooth. Thanks for reacting to him and adding your insight. I enjoyed your 16 Tons and Blackbird reactions, too. In one of them, you asked for other great singers you might not know. Have you heard of Hua Chenyu? His name is pronounced "Hooah" Chen You, and he's an incredible singer, composer and performer. He uses different genres and techniques to tell each story/song, and audiences are mesmerized and/or singing along with him. I heard him sing "Child" on Singer 2018 and was captivated. Will you react to it?

I’ve gotten the impression that you’d already heard some Geoff and VoicePlay before you started reacting to them? I love just about everything they do, but how about starting with VoicePlay’s most recent full length cover (they’re doing a series of minis as well), “If I were a rich man/girl” (if you haven’t heard it)? Then I think they’ll release a new one by the end of this week or next week. And Geoff’s most recent, “House of the Rising Sun” is great too!

I am familiar with them and PTX, but haven't listenedd to everything they've done. Case and point, had no idea they did "If I Were a Rich Man/Woman". I did see "House of the Rising Sun" pop up on my feed the other day and am itching to hear that one. I love the original and can only imagine how they've done it.
      Both great suggestions! Thank you.

Geoff is great. Another awesome bass singer you might wnat to check out is Tomi P. He's from Czech Republic and has a six octave range from F0 to F6. He usually sings a cappella. I recommend his cover of "My mother told me" th-cam.com/video/1MH4t0GyBiA/w-d-xo.html and his Hellfore cover th-cam.com/video/3-l23zWvSsM/w-d-xo.html
He sings all the layers in his music videos.

You should watch VoicePlay singing Elvira live, specifically this one - m.th-cam.com/video/sYlzZUwpd-0/w-d-xo.html
Geoff takes the lead and goes from very high to very low very quickly. It's honestly very impressive.
