I got fired because of covid jobsworths it has brought out the pricks in a lot of people I stand by my high standards of how I've always worked in my working lifetime safe, clean etc I'd never put anyone at risk (I'm a chef well was) The ridiculous rules implemented at my former employers discretion and the paranoid nut jobs aka the usual boot lickers I had too work with grassing me up because I carried on as normal cost me my job I understood the changes but they were ludicrous in many ways and the turnover of staff was and probably is still a joke one false move you're out. I pray karma gets too these "people" before I do when I get half a chance. pisses me off my termination letter cited "deeply concerning hygiene issues" I'll say again I would never put anyone at risk i got fired for not replacing a paper takeaway plate where serving a burger onto plate melted cheese fell on to plate and I thought covering it with chips would be fine but noooo apparently because it was greasy and I argued it would be fine I got fired no lie that's exactly what happened!!
So hold on a minute. For weeks we were being told we can have 3 households mixing together during the week of Christmas, so they buy all their presents, and enough food for 3 families plus their bubbles, which is a lot of money and a lot of people, only to be told with less than a week to go that they can no longer spend Christmas together? The presents you can send, but Christ, all that money on food GONE. My family and I are in the South West so it doesn't affect me one bit, but that doesn't mean I can't see the clear foul play towards other families.

One of my cherished memories is having Christmas with my Father, brothers and all our kids - he died suddenly two months later. I could no more deny others of this oppertunity than delete my own memory of that single day over a decade ago. Currently, sitting on a zero-hour contract with no furlough; September last time I was out on a job. How many other companies were/are the same? You won't hear much of that on the BBC though. And they don't do that as they know full well families would be recording the nearly empty hospital wards and staff pretty much doing nothing. My mum went in for quite a severe operation, and told me exactly that. Hardly any staff OR supposedly ill people of any sort.

The main issues with the government aren’t the rules they’ve given the public to follow (although those have been pretty awfully thought out), but more the constant U-turns. At this point, you might as well expect the opposite to anything they say. Why tell the country that we can travel and mix for the Christmas period and then cancel everything they’ve said in the days running up to Christmas itself, by which point people have made their plans, arranged their travel, likely bought most of their food and presents and prepared their houses? People want clarity and logical restrictions. This country wouldn’t be in the situation it’s in now if it weren’t for the governments terrible management of the spread earlier on.
Exactly. SO many U-turns. We all have to adapt as the situation develops, but why on Earth did the Government announce the relaxation in rules for Christmas so far in advance (and even just 72 hours ago when they knew there was a new strain and that the numbers were rising), only to pull the rug out from under everyone? I'm fortunate that I had made no plans to be affected, but millions of people and businesses (e.g. coach companies putting on extra services) planned in advance (as advised), and now have very little time to plan a suitable alternative. They should have ripped the bandaid off sooner and said, "We don't know whether Christmas will go ahead", instead of making promises they couldn't keep.

I'm always one to try and follow the rules, and I understand how serious the virus is, but Leslie is terminally ill and this could be her last Christmas? I wouldn't hesitate to break it and go see my family if I were her. There are some circumstances where the individual trumps the community, and she seems like one of those cases to me.
I feel sorry for her and don't know what her terminal illness is but if she is the vulnerable, not sure if dying by covid is nicer if she catches it...

@@davethompson7135 I work for the NHS and they have shut quite a few wards and cut bed numbers, this all works out really well for my employers though as they are spending much less on running costs keeping the hospitals open and they have cut the number of staff required on shift to a point they are basically planning the shift where staff get no breaks for over 12 hours to save money and this coincides with the government pumping hundreds of millions in extra cash into the NHS to help us through covid 😂 seems more like money laundering and setting the NHS up to be sold to Doris and co’s American Insurance friends to me 🤔 have a merry Christmas, I’ll be spending mine with my family, hope you all do too 👍

I’m in Melbourne Australia we currently have no cases of covid in our state, our hospitals are empty and I can do whatever I like at Christmas because when we had our outbreaks everyone followed the rules. If I have a heart attack there is space in my local hospital to treat me, if you are in LA you are on your own.

The main issues with the government aren’t the rules they’ve given the public to follow (although those have been pretty awfully thought out), but more the constant U-turns. Why tell the country that we can travel and mix for the Christmas period and then cancel everything they’ve said in the days running up to Christmas itself, by which point people have made their plans, arranged their travel, likely bought most of their food and presents and prepared their houses? People want clarity and logical restrictions. This country wouldn’t be in the situation it’s in now if it weren’t for the governments terrible management of the spread earlier on.
Exactly. SO many U-turns. We all have to adapt as the situation develops, but why on Earth did the Government announce the relaxation in rules for Christmas so far in advance (and even just 72 hours ago when they knew there was a new strain and that the numbers were rising), only to pull the rug out from under everyone? I'm fortunate that I had made no plans to be affected, but millions of people and businesses (e.g. coach companies putting on extra services) planned in advance (as advised), and now have very little time to plan a suitable alternative.
They should have ripped the bandaid off sooner and said, "We don't know whether Christmas will go ahead", instead of making promises they couldn't keep.

@@davethompson7135 I work for the NHS and they have shut quite a few wards and cut bed numbers, this all works out really well for my employers though as they are spending much less on running costs keeping the hospitals open and they have cut the number of staff required on shift to a point they are basically planning the shift where staff get no breaks for over 12 hours to save money and this coincides with the government pumping hundreds of millions in extra cash into the NHS to help us through covid 😂 seems more like money laundering and setting the NHS up to be sold to Doris and co’s American Insurance friends to me 🤔 have a merry Christmas, I’ll be spending mine with my family, hope you all do too 👍

I’m in Melbourne Australia we currently have no cases of covid in our state, our hospitals are empty and I can do whatever I like at Christmas because when we had our outbreaks everyone followed the rules.
