We need to realize how lucky we were Johnny Cash knew what worked for him late in his career. That Rick Rubin was wise to let Cash do his thing in the studio. Many years ago I lived in Nashville and I was doing studio work and Kerry West was the engineer on the song. Kerry West is the son of singer Dottie West. During that project Kerry's mother die suddenly from a car accident. I went to Dottie West's funeral. After the service I was standing in the lobby of the church at the side alone. I felt an energy rise in back of me. I turned around to see Johnny Cash coming in the door. No one saw him but me and I felt him before I saw him. It changed me.

Amazing how we talk of Johnny Cash now. Prior to his fortunate signing at American Recordings his career was in deep limbo. What am I saying? We need to realize how lucky we were Johnny Cash knew what worked for him late in his career. That Rick Rubin was wise to let Cash do his thing in the studio. We already knew Cash was great in his early days -- but, now? Now, he is legendary. Too bad he wasn't given that opportunity sooner. Too bad for us. We got lucky he left us those final LPs.

Many years ago I lived in Nashville and I was doing studio work and Kerry West was the engineer on the song. Kerry West is the son of singer Dottie West. During that project Kerry's mother die suddenly from a car accident. I went to Dottie West's funeral. After the service I was standing in the lobby of the church at the side alone. I felt an energy rise in back of me. I turned around to see Johnny Cash coming in the door. No one saw him but me and I felt him before I saw him. It changed me.

listening to this sing always takes me back to the day our son passed. he was four years old and lived with a terminal illness for three and a half years, we are not god people but no one can deny the emotions in this song, watching Alfie die was horrible I would not wish that on anyone, but it was a release for us all, he was in constant pain. this song whoever wrote or performed it did a remarkable thing of catching so much emotion, regardless of the word jesus
