OK, several good things about the church: 1) local porphyry stone, 2) geothermal heating, and 3) solar power. Oh, also it is the first new Catholic church, with a congregation of 5000, to be built in East Germany. But why, oh why can't architects apply modern ecological principles to the tried-and-true Gothic architecture? When I first saw that square block, I thought, "That's a church?"
