William, I have an ceramic insulator that is about the same size as the stone you are using, works great on small pocket knives, but I use it the same way as you on larger knives, it helps in keeping finger tips.
Great info Sir. I have always been slightly confused when it comes to sharpening convex grinds with a stone. This vid has clarified things. Thanks and ATB :-)
Wanted to stop by and say hello to you. Thanks for this great video. I'm trying to learn how to sharpen. I'm still mainly on stropping myself - especially on convex.
William, I really like your little ulu design. I can think of a lot of uses for it. That little point on the end could come in handy. Your video on convex sharpening is spot on. I have used a convex grind for about 60 years now. I used to carry a small soft Arkansas stone with me but rarely used it. My leather belt was usually enough to bring the edge back - even when gone for a couple of weeks. Recently I use a DC-4 in combination with a Swiss Army Knife steel. But honestly all I really need in the field is the steel. A stone is generally used at home after a grandkid gets thru punishing a knife. lol BTW: I am curious as to what you were using for a sharpening stone? Later.....
thanks! This is the only supplier I have found for the stone I was using in this video. It is the best stone I have found for my Master Woodsman grinds. It also last longer than my other diamond coated stones. www.knifecenter.com/item/EZLCD4/EZE-LAP-Super-Fine-DiamondCeramic-Combination-Pocket-Stone-with-Sheath
Thanks! Only supplier I have found that has them www.knifecenter.com/item/EZLCD4/EZE-LAP-Super-Fine-DiamondCeramic-Combination-Pocket-Stone-with-Sheath

LOL, that helps.
Nothing is quite as pretty sounding as that singing and ringing sound a stone and good steel makes.
Good vid, William.
Thanks!
