One fateful night in 2001 I should've studied for my finals the day after, but decided on a whim that a Rammstein concert was more important for my education. To this day I still think I made the right choice.

The song text Mutter by Rammstein is about a lyrical self that longs for a mother and at the same time is characterized by a lack of maternal love and security. Both the physical and emotional absence of the mother are addressed.
The lyrical self's longing for a mother becomes clear in the text, wishing to have a mother who protects and cares for her. The desire for a mother is illustrated by the line "Throw the wet chain into the air and wish that I had a mother". The lyrical self longs for love and security, which it did not experience in its childhood.
In addition, the absence of a mother is emphasized by the lyrical I describing that it has no sun to shine on it and that no breast has cried milk. It feels as if it has no place to belong as it has no navel on its belly.
The text also expresses a deep pain and anger that the lyrical I never had the opportunity to experience maternal affection. He decides to give his mother a disease and then sink her in the river. This expression of anger and revenge is an indication of the pain and suffering that the lyrical I feels due to the absence of the mother.
Overall, the lyrics of the song "Mutter" by Rammstein express the longing for maternal love and security, while at the same time addressing the painful experience of absence and the anger about it. It is an expression of deep emotional needs and the desire for connection and belonging.

    • @chrisrudolf9839
      @chrisrudolf9839 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The lyrics also heavily imply that the speaker is an artificially created human, like a clone grown in a glass jar or a Frankenstein's creature (absence of a navel, hose in his throat, the mother is adressed at one point as "the mother who never gave birth to me"), who was treated as just a test subject by their maker, got traumatized by that lack of care and human affection and now swears revenge on their maker. What makes the lyrics really powerful is that they work both ways, you can take them as a purely symbolic poem about child neglect or as a modern horror story about an artificially created human raised under inhuman conditions.

The child-like call of "Mutter" building to the final rage filled howl of "Mutter!" gets me every time. It's such a sad song, but performed with so much passion and emotion.
Also, I love seeing another person fall in love with this band. We are truly blessed to have Rammstein because there is nothing else like them, which I believe the Universe conspired to create this band. How else do you explain a German band being so damn loved by so many non-German speaking countries?

The video for this one nearly broke the band. Most of the band couldn't be bothered to turn up for filming, which led to them nearly breaking up. They had a band meeting and agreed to give 100% in future. This period in the band's existence is referenced in the video for their last single Adieu (together with references to loads of their other videos)

    Hello there.
It is a joy seeing you becoming a Rammstein fan.
What a great song. And the performance is so emotional and painful for Till (vocalist). Flake (keyboard), said, that those sparks were really painful, when in contact with the skin. By the end of that tour, Till temporarily lost a lot his hair, because of this performance.
In general, I'm ok if you don't react to the song, because you enjoy them so much. The only thing is, you are really missing out on some great written lyrics. Most of them are written in poetry style. And they make you think. Since all of the bandmembers grew up in the GDR, where there was only theoretically free speech, as a musician you learned quick, how to say something, without saying it.
If you change your mind, I recommend to check out educatedmarine's site or the channel of Buckstabu. They do a good job translating the lyrics into english. There you will also find songs, worth listening to, Rammstein doesn't play live or have an official video to it. And since you enjoyed this side of Rammstein so much, I recommend "Frühling in Paris "- Spring in Paris. I leave a link of it down below. It's from educatedmarine marine.

In that emotional mood you were at the end of the video you should have read the lyrics/the meaning of the song..even by the fact you felt the song without knowing the words. Well, maybe it would have been to much for you to take, no offencive. Cause Rammstein's deepness can hit you really hard if you're a sensitive person. Anyway, hope you do "Zeit" soon. Musically, Mutter - like many other Rammstein ballads - is a monotonous song. It is written in the key of E. It has a very strong melody, contains majestic power chords, and except for the modulation in the middle, it progresses monotonously and ends.

When criticizing the songs written by Rammstein in this relatively simple musical form (mostly ballads as I mentioned above), the lyrics become important. (I should point out that the link you prefer may not be the one, but the English translation versions of both the song's official video clip and the live recording from the Paris concert are available on TH-cam.)
When you look at the lyrics and think about them a few times, several different interpretations can be made for this song, as is the case with almost all Rammstein songs.
At first glance, the lyrics seem to be written from the mouth of a child who was never born and never existed (which brings to mind abortion) facing its mother. When viewed this way, it seems that many emotions are intertwined; mother's love, some anger, some hatred and a lot of sadness...
But with a secondary reading, it becomes more evident that the song reflects the feelings of a child who was "born without a mother from the very beginning" (NOT of a child who did not have a mother because he was killed by abortion.)
He is a laboratory-produced (probably cloned) child who does not have an organic mother (and an organic father of course), has something to say for his mother first. From this perspective, the song seems to be about human cloning at a higher level. And it seems to be a reference to the science-fiction novel "Brave New World" written by Aldous Huxley; inevitably bringing to mind the system of creating motherless and fatherless humans. It's like the words of a child born this way and his anger towards his nonexistent mother.. (By the way, this song is quite old, I think it's from 2001, and I read in an article at that time that the idea for the song came from the (actually non-existent) mother-son relationship that the band's guitarist Richard Kruspe, had with his mother during his childhood. The artistic creativity achieved through a fairly common core situation is impressive, isn't it? It's impossible not to tip our hat to Till. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest literary figures of our time.)
It would be good if you were more willing to bring and think about Rammstein's lyrics in your reactions. Thus, more meaningful doors could be opened. Thanks anyway..

Hi Stacey, not sure if you are into recommendations by random German people, but in case you are, you should also try the emotional song "Adieu". Because this song is directly related to the trouble Rammstein had with Mutter. The band was short before splitting up!, when working on the album due to solo ambitions and star allures. Anyway, ther are lots of hidden details in Adieu, mindblowing visuals and as the final song of their last album also highly important. Additional emotional songs are: Rosenrot; Reise, Reise (unfortunately no cinematic official video) and Seemann. Something completely different is the song "Mein Land" - in a way related to the recent Deutschland song, but way earlier and at a first glimpse a happy and funny song. But the lyrics have little to do with the beach party atmosphere used for the video (California in 2012). It´s actually a song about xenophobia.
I like to see your reaction videos and your smart analyses. Have fun on your journey discovering Rammstein :) All the best.

For some shocking value, please react to a live performance of their song "Bück Dich".
(Translates to "Bend Over!" and seems to be highly shocking for Americans. 😂)

If you like this style of Rammstein, then you should give 'Ohne Dich' (Without You) or Rosenrot (Rose Red), 'Du riecht so gut' (You Smell so Good), Engel (Angel) oder Haifisch (Shark) a try

First of all (I'm only 1min watching) - THANK YOU for actually making the effort of finding out the proper pronunciation of the title in a foreign language! So many reactors just brush it off with a "sorry if I pronounce this wrong" instead of spending the 30sec of copy/pasting the title into google-translate and hit the little speaker-icon.

Fun fact: Only Till is featured in the music video. The band had just come off a massive tour and studio sessions. The band was too exhausted to film the video. Due to their contract, Till agreed to be filmed with the backing track.

Btw: Till revealed during one of their rare interviews that he has a very deep seated stage fright. That's why you can see his gaze always sweep out far into crowds so he can avoid making direct eye contact with someone. He needs to focus his attention only on the ambiguous nature of the crowd, not on individuals, to overcome his stage fright.
Richard Kruspe however has absolutely no problem connecting with one person at a time in the crowd.
Flake in his varying get ups and antics was by his request. The band themselves accept that their music isn't very technically complex or difficult to play. Especially Flake the keyboarder says that he was often bored out of his mind as the synth often required pressing only two different keys in a song. So he asked the band what could be done so he wouldn't be so bored on stage, and to add some theatrics to the show. Voila, treadmill, glittering jumpsuits, clownish antics, boat crowd ride, being the target for Till's stage persona, etc.
Just as some background info on the band members.

"Adieu", "Zeit", or an older song "Ohne Dich" should be a good follow up for songs like "Mutter".

Hello. I like what you do. I'm a Rammstein fan! Why? Because they are tough and sensitive at the same time are in constant search. Because they understand us and we understand them. Because we saw, heard and felt them live and they confirmed to us that they are the best! Because without theme we wouldn't be so ourselves! ROCK ON! RAMMSTEIN! 🤘

To answer your question: a slower Rammstein song that I really love is Ohne Dich. And in general; I really like your reaction videos, keep em coming! Especially your Sabaton reactions (because you love history) so far are phenomenal. I hope you do many many more! :)
    Have a good weekend!

You want to either learn German or watch at Buckstabü or Educated Marine's channels so you can understand the lyrics. There are always many layers and interpretations t Rammstein's lyrics. Till is a poet.

This is my favorite Rammstein song. You should really check out these 2: "Mein Herz Brennt, Piano Version by Sven Helbig" and "Zaz - Le jardin des larmes feat. Till Lindemann." You won't be disappointed with either of them I promise!

You should really consider checking out the lyrics of each song in the video. There are TH-cam channels that have the music videos/live performances with english subs (theres one for this very performance). It really adds more depth to it all, I remember one reactor saying that every rammstein song is a riddle you have to solve. Of course some of the poetry gets lost in translation but the lyrics are rarely written straight forward. They are very poetic and sort of challenge you to understand whats going on. They often tell stories and certain lines can quickly change the entire song for you. This song as well has 2 lines that escalate things pretty quickly and youre sort of caught offguard by them.
