What I am not sure about and I think is an error is using canister in a 3-inch Ord. gun, far as I know they never fired canister out of those because they are rifled guns and canister would damage the rifling. Correction: It did shoot it but it had serious problems because it was a 7 grooved gun with a narrow bore, it would send fewer balls in sporadic patterns rather than intended with inferior range to the 12pd. Napoleon best suited.
Fantastic video. We need more games with more realistic artillery gameplay like this one. I was an artilleryman for twelve years so your fire direction commands had my eyeball twitching a bit but still good work overall.
General Cody, I got a few tips for improving the overall effectiveness of artillery. (This is just a "friendly" recommendation) For instance, there were a few cases where it took "rather Long" for the gun crew to locate a enemy in a totally different area (Even with the usage of the compass) or even aim at the wrong target (At least if was still a good shot), a potential solution to this problem would be to create a more "Permanent" reference points (You already did it, but to a limited degree), try to make everyone know what is what EG: Pick a few trees that are evenly dispersed across the battlefield and call them "Tree 1", "Tree 2" or "Alpha Tree" etc... But this could get very confusing and complicated so I recommend only make up to 3 points (That is Unique), each would be on the left, center and right EG: Based on the map your playing at the time, that patch of tall grass in 3:45 that is on the more extreme right of your artillery position would be called "Corn-field", the center "Yellow" area at 2:14 would be called "Hay-field", and lastly the green grass area located on the extreme left of your artillery position in 2:46 would be called "Green-field". for better efficiency you could also add in phrases like Bottom, Upper, South, North, Left Right, Corner or distinctive objects in those areas. EG: At 2:52 I would say:"Gun 1/2 ,Aim at the Stonewall between Green-field and Hay-field.", when there's multiple enemies near that wall and you want to aim at the very target your binoculars are pointing towards, you could say," Gun 1/2 aim at the group of enemies between the 2 trees at the stonewall separating Green-field and Hay-field." EG: At 3:51 I would say:"Gun 1/2 turn towards the stonewall between Hay-field and Cornfield, we got enemies pushing towards us" Everything I say is just the theoretical level (I'm too poor to afford this game), not the practical level, if I have first hand experience I probably could come up with much better tips. I hope you find this useful :)
Another great video Cody. Loved the command, communication & interaction between the two crews during the battle. The shots made by both cannon crews were terrific & accurate that it might have impressed Napoleon Bonaparte himself. Hopefully, with some minor adjustments, artillery will be a little less OP, but overall it could come down to each player's/gunner's skillset. I believe War of Rights is heading the right direction on expanding the immersion of Civil War combat. Looking forward to more of your excellent content.
I think cavalry would be a good counter to artillery, particularly in larger games. They'd be able to close the distance faster than infantry and will have the chance to sneak around the cannon's flanks.
Then try it, it is a new breed of game. But imagine the gun servants never seeing the enemy they shot at or if they hit, or where their shot went. Actually they shoot blind, service the gun and they don't get to do anything else for 30 minutes. I'd still play the infantry they shoot at, more dynamic gameplay, though you need to get very close after a long run to hope to get one enemy...

Artillery has only been out for a hot minute, and after a couple of years there'll be experienced artillery crew players who will be crazy good at artillery, probably way better than artillery crews ever were in real life. It might get a bit harrowing when for very experienced players shots like that will be the norm rather than the exception.

Might it have been better, once the Artillery had been sighted, to allocate one gun towards one area and the other to the other area. Small adjustments can then be done very quickly, increasing rate of fire . Not quite why had only one caisson for each gun. Normally they have two....were you restricted by the game? Love watching your battles. Keep up the good work.

I was in a the 1st Georgia Artillery when I reenacted!! Was a powder monkey. There is nothing cooler than playing with cannon and black powder when you're 12.
I feel like a good plan to cross the field to engage the enemy and not get disintegrated would be to spread out over the field while crossing and if they're able attack your cannons stay spread out till they get to you so that your cannons aren't effective. I don't know if they're able to get to you though.

Love the game, but the big problem imo is the lack of official servers. Had some great games today, left for a smoke and suddenly top servers are passworded. And I ain´t gonna join no clans. Those days are gone for me.
It would be epic if it was like 50k vs 50k people but that is beyond unreal with current hardware.. :/ And it would take a lot of waiting to get so many players at the same time playing..like CSGO has a problem to give you a match in 2mins with 9 other people, 100k would be way more than the number of people who bought the game I assume :D

ive been noticing something weird in my case with this game. for some reason, i get the same fps in 1440p as i do when i lower it to 1080p with the same settings otherwise. im using legit 1440p monitor, but for some reason, my RX-580 8gb Red Devil i have OC'd a little bit is pushing the same fps in both 1080 and 1440. its just weird to me. whats even more weird is that no matter what settings i put i cant seem to hit that 60fps sweet spot. stays between 35fps-57fps. its just so weird to me. i dont know, maybe im just weird or something.... gonna be upgrading my gpu soon since i built a pretty sweet system otherwise, but my gpu is holding my system back quite a bit
There ARE sharpshooters in the game, and yeah, they are very strong. It's important to remember the game is not even in beta, it's far from finished, cavalry are intended to be the hard counter to artillery in order to form a rock paper scissors sort of game. (Infantry counter Cavalry counter Artillery counter Infantry etc.)
They need to remaster HC's "Civil War" series... Maybe add a few more missions for each side & online multiplayer. I have both games & can honestly say the graphics don't even remotely come close to this game here

We are in the infancy stage of skill level for arty. Going to be crazy when people know the maps and the exact range.
