I've made quite a bit of money knitting mittens, hats and scarves from dog and cat hair. The Samoyed people have always used dog hair for knitting. After all, the most expensive fibres in the world are from animal coats spin into yarn (alpaca, wool, llama, camel, qiviut). Don't believe me? Get the per ounce price on qiviut. I could support myself extravagantly spinning yak and qiviut. Dog and cat undercoat, sometimes mixed with lamb or alpaca, makes wonderful presents for a person who loves their pet and wants to keep them near. BTW, there is work preparing the yarn after spinning to make it perfectly clean.
