Being overweight increases the strain on the heart, making it work harder to pump blood, which raises blood pressure. Losing even a small amount of weight can make a noticeable difference in blood pressure levels. A combination of healthy eating and regular physical activity is essential for maintaining an optimal weight. Reducing waist circumference, which is associated with high blood pressure and heart disease, is particularly important for lowering risk.
