I have always appreciated the irony in the fact that, after all the great singers who have appeared on his records, my favorite Mike Oldfield pop vocal track is one he sung himself.
i am french. I am proud to say that after centuries of war between UK and france, we are now friends, and definitly in love of british music. That song is PERFECT
I can't believe Mike sang this. In his autobiography he was talking about the recording of this and how he felt he was just not a good singer. He is fab!!!
I love when Mike sing, maybe even more than any other artist who sang for his records but I think he refers that to get this vocals he work so much, even Tom Newman said that almost every phrase is from different takes
Love the song’s message. Perhaps Marcos Ramos is right: that he felt uncomfortable with his voice because he lacked ease and technique. You wouldn’t know that from hearing it, but as a vocal coach, I can hear a bit of tongue root tension that may have made things difficult for him. Still sounds great, though!
This song has from 1995 been one I put on when getting ready to leave for examination at the hospital, and once where I had to get an operation which included full anaesthesia, two journeys to North America, and several times where I changed jobs. Change is unnerving, innit? -Fly right in!

Great performance from Reginald Beckwith with his cane & 'give it some welly!' gestures & critical feedback. Accusing GINGER BAKER of playing in a chamber orchestra & not giving enough beat. Wow! Absolutely stonking song & sound. Can't believe the Graham Bond Organisation didn't become much more successful. This jazz-influenced R&B rocks! Sad end for Graham Bond at just 36. One hell of a Hammond wizard.

This must have been an early mix, with different lyrics and guitar parts to the final version on the album. The video had to lipsync with the lyrics, so it had to stay with the early version, but I think the album version ended up being much better. Bit of a weird video too, I guess this was a difficult time for Mike and he just needed something done quickly?
Also, from what I could gather, this particular movie is very hard to come by. You have to look for full animation compilations by this studio to get it. I reccomend you search Amazon.
The later version ( th-cam.com/video/1kT0ShC0w98/w-d-xo.html ) has cleaner vocals and is arranged better, but I also like the gritty guitar in this original version.
"This is zero hour and there's no way back Can you feel that power? In its arms you're wrapped All through the night-time 'Til the sun comes in Now Heaven's open Just fly right in" You're welcome
@@didack1419 Yes but whole album is some trolling with Virgin Records (M.O. wanted to make less pop but more instrumental and concept albums but the record company didn't let him make them so he just broke his contract with V.R. However he had to make one more album so he played Heaven's Open with trolling lyrics [by the way the last two words on the album are "F..k off" - his farewell to Richard Branson and his record company]). I think the video is partly also a flick to the company.
@@Tralfamador75 This is the first time that someone answers a commentary of mine long ago I posted it. It's interesting that feel of not remembering what's going on until you realise. Probably you know much more than me about this, I remember hearing something about what you're saying of the flicking, but I don't know. I guess that the idea is also that the "Heaven is open now that I'm going out from this company", but the most superficial and clear reading of the song is that is about sex. It seems that the songs is meant to be interpreted as a metaphor of sex by the audience, and actually, it happened to have this second, more hidden, meaning, which was probably the meaning that the composer wanted to express. Again, I don't know much about any of this.
@@didack1419 Yes, you're right, I think the story about the conflict between Mike Oldfield and the company is a secondary thing (for the audience) and maybe it's nothing more than a curiosity (for the audience again). However I like this album because of it's "depressed" or "darker" tone.
He is one of the greatest artist of our times.
I'm a man of 37 years...but almost every time I hear this master piece, I have tears in my eyes...Not joking . What Genius this man is.
One of the greatest musicians of all times…thank you, Mike!

Amazing song! Too bad Spotify doesn't have this version. Always have to come to YT to listen to it.
Right? It's such a shame Spotify doesn’t have it. One of my favourites by Mike, but specifically this version
That 's to me the same. Spotify has not this better Version
Great singing ,and fantastic guitar playing from the master ...Mike oldfield.

Don't know why - I think he has a great voice on this track !
Well you can hear his vocal is not as refined as other singers he worked with. It sounds as he's straining and his dynamics is all over the place.
It's a shame this is probably unknown to most people. I think this might be his best individual pop song.
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it. The more I listen to Mike, the more he climbs to the top of my favourite artists.
what a hidden gem this is.
This epic song has brilliant lyrics and Mike sings his heart out......in my opinion, his best song............a mighty, powerful gem!!
Schon hundertmal gesehen aber immer noch Gänsehaut...

Music awesome. Video a combo of dark Freudian fantasies and/or acid.
much simpler, add the beard to the villain and he becomes mr . "Virgin" Branson when Mike sent him to hell..😁
100% MIKE OLDFIELD
Great vocals. QED.
Love this song sice I was 8 yo

THE BEST...................
Ein tolles Lied von Mike kann man sich immer wieder an hören 😙
Mike sounds great kinda of same voice as the singer from Blue Nile
cause he is the best
Mike's guitar is his voice.
❤
I like this version better than the one on the 3 cd compilation. Anyone know what the name is of this mix?
This is the 7" version

Who drew the animation?

Which version is this? I've got a best of album and there is a quite different version, which I personally like lots better.

I think so
Yep, the version on the Elements compilation is fantastic-this sounds too slow.

Butaság! Nagyon emberi a video..... csak nem érted! És ez még kézzel van rajzolva, emberi kézzel....nem hülye virtuális animáció!
Ach nee fangssim Mike Oldfield
Does somebody can tell me what he sings in the chorus, before the 'sun comes in' lines?
