Former mummer here: the statement about neighborhood competition is very accurate. Most mummer groups have ties with local fire departments, police stations, or labor unions. Not only is it a parade and celebration, but also an adjudicated competition. Community, and often family, based organizations compete in different divisions with costumes, music, and dance, often times telling a story or conveying a theme. Mummer groups are typically very involved in their local communities, putting up local events, participating in other parades, and fundraising for their clubs and communities.
Jason's got an awesome attitude for such a tough loss. He's not flogging himself or the team like others do, and it comes off as so much more professional and level-headed. The Eagles are lucky to have him on their roster.
Totally! And yes, it is really crap to lose the bye week but they are in the playoffs and they have everything at their disposition to clean up! Maybe it’s better to get this tough loss out of the way in the regular season and win your post season! Go birds!
I understand why he doesn't, but I wish he could provide a little more information about what he and his teammates are doing differently to turn this thing around. He's been saying we need to "get back and work" and "meet the standard" since the beginning of the season when the Eagles were getting ugly wins. At some point it becomes meaningless. Some deeper insights from the players' perspective would rally fans and his teammates
Can you imagine what their parents went through raising Travis?? He hit 3 parked cars??? Got his license revoked and got kicked off the college football team and who knows what else??? Shout out to Mama and Papa Kelce for raising him to become not only a productive member of society but a HoF player, great brother, son, Uncle and presumably boyfriend ❤
We all have some mistakes and bad decisions in our past. They just aren’t out there for the world. If my parents and family knew the shit I did they would have beat my ass and then some.
While I am a Vikings fan, you two have made football more relatable that I catch myself cheering for both the Eagles and the Chiefs. THANK YOU for a great video!!!

But they cus way to much!!! They have all those young kids looking uo them, bad impression for the young children of the the world, don't be saying that stuff so much
I know the struggles the Chiefs and Eagles have gone through this year have not been easy for Jason and Travis. But their attitude towards success and overcoming is really motivating. Even outside of sports, there is a lot we civilians can put into practice in our own lives.
Bro they're footballers, they are civilian's too. Additionally, they have not said anything every sports person has said ever. "We need to be accountable, we need to get back to basics, we need to turn up for each other, we're disappointed and are working really hard in training" ect ect. Literally every trope in the book.
I love that they never have anything bad to say about any other player on any team and are always the first to turn critique on themselves. Travis can't say anything negative about another team without immediately hedging. "If we were facing a better offense, err, an offense that's clicking..." He's immediately corrects like, no, the Bengals have a good offense, everyone has a good offense, this just wasn't their week.
So got a no dumb statement I guess you would call it. I got great news yesterday. My doctor told me I am officially in remission and now hope to go to my first NFL game/Chiefs game this 2024 season! Love the show, keep up the great job guys.
What adults do doesn’t necessarily reflect what their parents taught them. With these two, maybe, but im tired of people attributing the good in others to their parents. It’s reductive and actions are not reflective of parents anymore when you’re talking about grown adults
Parents DO affect their children; they affect each child differently, but it's impossible not to. Parents cannot be blamed nor praised for EVERYTHING their child end up being/doing, but a big chunk of a person's being is from how they are raised.
Just to help you guys out! The mummers originated in Philadelphia as a celebration to bring in the new year and to bring together the different neighborhoods filled with families who recently immigrated from all over the world. It has since grown from a simple street celebration of dancing, dressing up, etc. to a more elaborate collection of marching, string band performances, and dance performances in the convention center. The main inspiration is to just continue the tradition throughout Philadelphia and continue the comradery between all the neighborhoods by coming together to ring a new year.
Just before finishing the season I want to thank you for making me and my family enjoy football so much. We live in Central America and we don't have football over here, but we have learned to really enjoy it and have a great time with it through you. Your podcast is awesome, we listen to it every week, and you both and all your family members are such great people! Wish you all an amazing year!
As noted during the podcast, Mummery goes back to a lot of different customs. Basically, in its old custom of people going door to door on New Year’s day/During the Christmas season in costumes, drinking, dancing, etc. The Philadelphia Mummer’s Parade, is a 124 year long New Years day tradition. It’s an organized event of different brigades (groups based out of neighborhoods in Philadelphia) that compete against each other with various performances. There are different divisions (jockeys, king clowns, string bands, fancies, etc.) that the brigades can participate in. The winning brigades in each division get some prize money for their club. They pick a theme, hand make costumes and sets, choreograph routines, and compose music. These brigades are ALL Volunteers, and literally do this just for fun. A lot of families will be mummers for generations, and it’s a beautiful (al be it very drunken) Philadelphia tradition!

Mummers Parade is a folk parade with it’s origins in the various neighborhoods of Philly and the ethnic xmas/new year traditions they practiced. The traditions included visiting neighboring homes asking for food and drink. The official cheer of the parade is “Here we stand before your door, As we stood the year before; Give us whisky, give us gin, Open the door and let us in.” It’s oldest city sponsored parade in the nation. The word Mummer can be traced to Greek mythology, “Momus” the personification of satire, mockery and censure. Mummer can also be connected to the late Middle English word mommer and the Old French word momeur. Each relates to miming, masking and folk play.

I was at the game against the bengals, holy shit did swag surfin get the stadium hyped. The entire stadium was screaming even with 30 seconds left on the TV timeout. It was absolutely electric!
Breaking down football for swifties. Welcome to football. We're stoked to have you. 1) A FG is a kick through the upright goal posts, usually on fourth down (fourth try to get ten yards before the defense gets the ball back) and the farthest FG ever hit was done by Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker at 66 yards. 2) Travis blocks and catches the ball. Hes basically a big hybrid Wide Receiver. If the Quarterback is handing the ball to the Runningback on a run play, Travis would block defenders trying to get to whoever has the ball on offense. The guy giving the ball to the QB on every snap (play/down/offensive snap) is the center (of the O Line, and that's the position Jason plays) 3. A down is one of four tries to get ten yards. Usually if the offense doesnt get ten yards in three tries they either attempt a field goal if theyre 5 yards from the LoS) when they stop the WR from having a fair shot at the catch (early tackle, not playing the ball), and offensive pass interference doesnt happen as often but its when the WR stops the DB from making a play on a bad throw/potential Interception before the ball gets there. b) Holding: Holding an opponents jersey to stop them from advancing towards the QB or through a block on the DL (usually happens on the OL) c) False Start: offensive line moves before the ball is snapped after everyone is set. Happens to the defense too but is usually called encroachment or neutral zone infraction if they cross the line of scrimmage. 4) On offense a player is down when a limb other than their hand, head, or foot touch the ground with the ball. Usually a leg, knee, shoulder, or elbow. If the ballcarrier falls down they can get up and run again unless the oposing team touches them down. Also, forgot to add that Defensive Pass Interference is a spot foul which is HUGE for the offense because if the QB hurls the ball 50 yards to his WR/TE/RB and DPI is called it's the same as a huge completion and the ball moves to wear the foul occured. It usually happens more than 10 yards down the field which usually leads to a new set of downs for the offense. Not necessarily fair considering OPI is a ten yard penalty but the new age of NFL rules favors the offense. Also, a caveat to the last thing I mentioned, if the ball carrier looks like he's down but doesn't hear a whistle and is on top of a defender that's on the ground the play is still live as long as his knee/elbow/shoulder/back doesn't touch the ground while he has possession of the ball. If you see players stop because they think the ball carrier is down but the whistle hasn't been blown the ball carrier can keep going for the TD. I'm a Seahawks fan that fell in love with the game of football after our SB run in 2005 where the refs stole the ring from us and gave it to Pittsburgh as a going away/retiring present for Jerome Bettis. Yes I'm still salty about it. My team went 13-3 and had the league MVP at RB and lost to a 11-5 Pittsburgh team that lost their way to a SB. #GoHawks My wife is a Swifty and I'm excited to be able to talk to her about football and see her get into it now too. Especially since it's not the f***in Kardashians or something like that. I say the NFL is my soaps and I'm not even exaggerating a little bit. Welcome to the game we know and love dearly, -Sven
Mummery 101: each neighborhood competed on New Year’s Day in three categories, comic division (drunken wenches), fancy division ( outrageous costumes and dance routines), string Bands ( very neighborhood oriented such as South Philadelphia, Woodland (avenue in Southwest Philly), greater Kensington, Overbrook, etc. Women weren’t allowed in the Parade until 1975 thus men dressed in dresses and called wenches in the comic division. Sometimes families ran a string band. Jason wore a string band suit in the victory parade from Avalon String band which originally was the 12th Ward string band in 1938 and renamed after a cigarette in 1944. Happy New Year!
Careful what you guys say about the Lions game guys, don't get fined, I have been a Lions fan for 45 years I have never been so upset over a game, BUT we as fans have to move past this and just be so very proud of my team for how far they have come, Dan is fired up now so we will get past this. Travis love ya for being on the Lions side in this. Love you both.
Thank you Jason for explaining the Lions/Cowboys ending. I was in shock when they took the points back, even though I like both teams. Lions are doing amazing this year.
2023 was your best year, guys! Being in the Super Bowl, Bennie being born and Travis finding his soulmate! What could be better? Would you guys recap your favorite moments of the year, please???
Love the props and respect for Tomlin. Love how loyal the Kelce brothers are. Definitely can't say the same about the media, or many NFL fans. Go Stillers.
I love how honest Travis is when Jason used a vocabulary word and he he responds he doesn't know whet Jason is saying. 😂 He is comfortable not knowing things and its refreshing
Aww! My heart melted when Trav said his favorite was Silent Night! Dude... holding that little candle in a dimly-lit church on Christmas Eve with the whole place singing Silent Night is a CORE memory for me. lol. To this day, it is mandatory that I sit by my Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, no lights on but the tree, and no other noise going on, and listen to Silent Night (T-Swift 2007 version of course hehe) . Happy New Year, guys! ☺
Thank you guys so much ....I am learning so much more bout football.....My mom when she was alive loved the game so much ...So your show is awesome....I absolutely love Kylie......
Uploaded 2 hours ago and already at over 161,280 views and keeps rising ! 🙌🏽. Best podcast in such a long time!! Love how they just bounce off each other when joking. The Kelce brothers are the best pair in the nfl. *(edit)* meant the whole podcast is the best not just this particular episode.
Jason, thank you for explaining that Lions play! It helped to get the inside scoop!! Everyone in the DMV heard my “ooooohhhh!” And “ahhh haaaa” commentary!
I loved the shout out to The Bible Recap! It's a Bible reading plan to read through the whole Bible in a year. The podcast goes over the reading plan for that day and makes it really simple to understand what you just read through. TBR has been a huge blessing to me and it's fun to see two of my favorite podcasts at the top of the list. Here's a verse to encourage you both this week, but our resident Eagle might relate more to it: "but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
You Two are the best in the West. You laugh at each other, you laugh often, you smile a lot, I can't tell you how much I enjoy your videos. In addition, you guys are smart and very knowledgeable about NFL Football, and you express respect your competitors and each other. I wager you two will retire and if so will end up making MORE money with New Heights than in professional sports and I hope you stick together until you kick the bucket. Don't EVER think about splitting up.....NEVER EVER Guys. If Travis ends up with Miss Swifty you just GOTTA make it work.... Don't let her break you two up, OK?
Congratulations on #1 repeat! Some analysts are quick to criticize. Jason and Travis are role models on how to move forward positively in spite of a loss. Thank you.
Greetings from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Mummers originated from England and Ireland. It is a huge custom in Newfoundland, Canada,(where I am from), and was temporarily banned in our province during the 1800’s due to the drunkenness that tended to accompany it. It is a Christmas tradition where you go door to door and the person they visit has to guess who you are. A popular traditional song “The Mummer’s Song” pretty much describes the practice. Love you guys!
The best description of what happened in the lions game thanks fellas. Different angle shows decker making the universal sign and he also said "reported"
I’m a teacher and my students know I’m an Eagles fan. They bring me Eagles cards all the time and it’s my favorite! So fun with the kiddos. I also have a mini helmet in my classroom a student gave me 😁
I’m so with Travis on this. I saw Jason at the Super Bowl parade dressed like a genie. I’m from NJ. It’s so wild how different we are in just the very small parts of NY, NJ, and PA.
I am 75 years old. My mom loved football! I watch but not all. I am sending love and best wishes to the Eagles! Win your next game! My south Jersey cousins will be happy! I live in Md but want to see a Chiefs -Eagles rematch!!!
Mummers were originally bands of masked persons who during winter festivals in Europe paraded the streets and entered houses to dance or play dice in silence. “Momerie” was a popular amusement between the 13th and 16th century. In the 16th century it was absorbed by the Italian carnival masquerading (and hence was a forerunner of the courtly entertainment known as masque).
In Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada), mummering goes back to as early as 1819 and was brought by the Irish. It's a time when you dress in disguise (including switching genders) and have your face covered. They will go to a house and someone will say "any mummers allowed in?" They will then dance, tell jokes or entertain the hosts. The hosts then try to guess the identity of the mummers before offering them food and drink. They will then move on to the next house :) There is "the mummer's song" and it's a celebrated part of their history. How it made it to Philadelphia ?? No idea.
Philadelphia also had a large number of Irish immigrants in the 1800’s. What’s interesting to me is that NY and Boston, who also had significant Irish immigration during that same timeframe, don’t have Mummers. 🧐
Dukes Mayo is a southern staple. Always have it in the fridge. Perfect for all sandwiches and chicken salad. Southern Living at its best. My Kentucky born husband is a miracle whip guy. I Respect the regional choices
South Carolina transplant from Ohio… never heard of Duke’s til I moved here 😂. And now seems like either South Carolina or Clemson end of playing in this bowl game
As a Chiefs season ticket member, Swag Surfin transforms the stadium. they don't play it often, but when they do, everyone just turns into different people. You hear "Man I got that swaaaaag...." you know this shit's over.
The one with the piñata is a famous sportscaster in México 🇲🇽 , his name is John Sutcliffe and the piñata is because he always brings piñatas 🪅 on the field 😅😂

The guy giving the ball to the QB on every snap (play/down/offensive snap) is the center (of the O Line, and that's the position Jason plays)
3. A down is one of four tries to get ten yards. Usually if the offense doesnt get ten yards in three tries they either attempt a field goal if theyre 5 yards from the LoS) when they stop the WR from having a fair shot at the catch (early tackle, not playing the ball), and offensive pass interference doesnt happen as often but its when the WR stops the DB from making a play on a bad throw/potential Interception before the ball gets there.
b) Holding: Holding an opponents jersey to stop them from advancing towards the QB or through a block on the DL (usually happens on the OL)
c) False Start: offensive line moves before the ball is snapped after everyone is set.
#GoHawks
My wife is a Swifty and I'm excited to be able to talk to her about football and see her get into it now too. Especially since it's not the f***in Kardashians or something like that. I say the NFL is my soaps and I'm not even exaggerating a little bit.
Welcome to the game we know and love dearly,
-Sven
I would like to see Kylie and Mama Kelce be substitute hosts for one episode.
AbsoDAMNlutely! I’m not sue Kylie would be up for it, but that would be a perfect off-season episode.
Why not Kylie and Taylor Swift? Makes more sense.
When Jason said ‘there’s no dumb people only dumb questions’ trav looked all over like what’s happening hahaha. Brilliant brotherly inside joke.
Can we acknowledge Trav's face when Jason mixed up the No Dumb Questions intro at 19:17? 😂😂
I am glad I am not the only one that noticed 😂
Lmao that was hilarious. Travis said "WTFUUU, WHATEVER"
I laughed so hard 😂😂😂
Omg Travis face with the mayo dump was hilarious . Also the face Jason had to tell him not to make that noise again had me dying 😂😂😂
Jason having to read what a Mummer is. Priceless. These guys are the best.
Travis holding Benjamin buttons, Meredith, and Olivia is actually so cute
When was it lol
I find it hilarious when Jason says "what are we doing?" 😂 It's a mix of disgust, disappointment, deflation and surrender 😂
Apparently Brandon has a "bit" where he says "yeah, I'll just cut that out of the episode" but he never actually does. 😂
92 Percenter here in Florida and originally from STL. This is not just my favorite podcast, it's the ONLY one I listen to! Love these brothers!😂😂
They play off each other very well. It's all original. No pre planing. All natural.
@@mczgc Right!
Thank you for giving a shout out to Coach T, when it comes from other players on other teams, it speaks volumes!
Jason & Travis would be great at voiceovers in the off seasons
They would be great Disney characters.
Big time good for both
Agree!!
Travis is good with sound effects 😂
Those 3 cats are definitely Taylor’s cats 😂
I love Jason’s vulnerable straight answer about supporting your wife during child birth ❤
That's being a straight-up responsible guy
"Because you're special, you're a special individual Jason, that's why." 🤣🤣
Hearing Jason tip-toe around criticizing the refs is my fav moment from this episode. Fire. Brad. Allen
Those are definitely supposed to be Taylor’s cats 😂😂
Travis skirted the question
💯
💯
He is so protective of her
@@karenphillips6801 nothing ab that to be protective ab, he just doesn’t want to talk ab her anymore
I was at the Duke’s Mayo bowl, the check was for a local food bank! Go Mountaineers
Travis' face when Jason messed up the NDQ intro! 😂😂😂
Thank you guys so much ....I am learning so much more bout football.....My mom when she was alive loved the game so much ...So your show is awesome....I absolutely love Kylie......
Jason you could never lose points with the Philadelphians…we LOVE you!!!!
Loved when Swag Surf came on. Everyone in our section was dancing and singing. Loved the energy that came off
Now l have to look up this song 😂
That must have been so hype and fun. I hope they do this more when the situation calls for it!
Life long Dallas fan here but have been won over by Jason and Travis both. Love the show and love seeing all your success.
Travis and Jason getting "mad" over the non LeBron stat is becoming a thing and I’m here for it 😂
Jason, everyone over 30 is with you on Laffy Taffy! 👍🏻
Good Morning 92%ers! Great way to start a Wednesday. Let's GOOOO #62 and #87. Have a great day everyone!
Good Morning from Kansas City ❤
@@laurahill1995 Good Morning!
Good morning! 😄
Gooooood morning.

@@captainfjs2977 Good Morning!
Jason, thank you for explaining that Lions play! It helped to get the inside scoop!! Everyone in the DMV heard my “ooooohhhh!” And “ahhh haaaa” commentary!
Travis reaction to seeing the dogs in the intro was hilarious 😂
It’s his brother, how does he not know about the dog🤔
I am 72 and it is amazing how you make all age groups laughing as one group!
HEY, INTERN BRANDON….. can we get a compilation of Travis saying electric? 😅😂😂
I hear him say this in my head often 😅
We can assure you there's only mayo in that cooler. It's just stirred for a really, really long time. Loosens right up :)
Way to go Dukes @dukesmayonnaise - love ya’ll
The best mayo!
Absolute best mayo!
Dukes is mayo ON. A. WHOLE. OTHER. LEVEL! THE BEST!!!❤❤

Thank you for showing love to Mike Tomlin. He is an incredible coach
I second that!
I'm surprised Travis didn't give the stamp of the week to the Chiefs kicker. He literally won them the game with the six field goals.
Here's a verse to encourage you both this week, but our resident Eagle might relate more to it:
"but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
LOL! Jason going right at Travis about the xmas gift and then stopped short when Travis is like, NO, Mom did!
When Jason told Travis we don’t need to revisit that 😂😂😂
You Two are the best in the West.
I love that church was "like a fieldtrip" for their family on Christmas. No wonder they are so normal and centered!
🤣🤣🤣. IKR!! I so enjoyed that comment
The best description of what happened in the lions game thanks fellas. Different angle shows decker making the universal sign and he also said "reported"
Loved watching Taylor doing the swag in the booth with Travis friend.
I would really like to watch this episode, but I can’t get past the intro! Travis’ reaction to the dogs!!! 😂😂😂 I’ve replayed it like 100 times!
"You warm up like a bear scratching his back" Haha what a great line lol 😂😆
I’m a teacher and my students know I’m an Eagles fan. They bring me Eagles cards all the time and it’s my favorite! So fun with the kiddos. I also have a mini helmet in my classroom a student gave me 😁
Their conversation about the mummers sounds exactly like me trying to describe the mummers to my kids and husband this week 🤣🤣🤣
Don't overthink it, Trav. It's just a parade of people in costume, some playing instruments, and everyone having fun. Join us next year!
“U named that big ass animal Winnie”😂
Absolutely loved watching Travis watch our coach get dumped in Mayo! The big check is for a donation to a local food bank here in Morgantown!
Travis’s face when Jason says dumb questions made me die
In Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada), mummering goes back to as early as 1819 and was brought by the Irish. It's a time when you dress in disguise (including switching genders) and have your face covered. They will go to a house and someone will say "any mummers allowed in?" They will then dance, tell jokes or entertain the hosts. The hosts then try to guess the identity of the mummers before offering them food and drink. They will then move on to the next house :) There is "the mummer's song" and it's a celebrated part of their history. How it made it to Philadelphia ?? No idea.
Trick or treat for adults
Philadelphia also had a large number of Irish immigrants in the 1800’s. What’s interesting to me is that NY and Boston, who also had significant Irish immigration during that same timeframe, don’t have Mummers. 🧐
Dukes Mayo is a southern staple. Always have it in the fridge. Perfect for all sandwiches and chicken salad. Southern Living at its best. My Kentucky born husband is a miracle whip guy. I Respect the regional choices
I'm from Ohio and not a fan of Duke's Mayo. We are more Miracle Whip here
Tommie Lynn FTW
Dukes!
In NY…HELLMANS!
OMFG THANK YOU TRAVIS FINALLY! IVE BEEN WAITING YEARS TO FIND ANOTHER DRUM GUY! Honestly I'm glad its you too.
Love the show boys. Keep it up!
Literally no one ever prefers the drums. I thought I was weird.
The one with the piñata is a famous sportscaster in México 🇲🇽 , his name is John Sutcliffe and the piñata is because he always brings piñatas 🪅 on the field 😅😂
Really love y’all’s sportsmanship, it’s so admirable that you guys won’t say anything disparaging about other players, even the obvious ones. Literal poster boys for masculinity!
