Thanks for allowing me to comment in English. I was just saying that I like the atmosphere of brotherhood among you guys as it seems that you have a large support group over in your country. And I kind of wish that we still had a lot of support here in the united states but the tone towards metal detecting has gotten negative in the last several years here. Many shows on metal detecting here, portray us as a bunch of fools, jumping around like a monkey when we find stuff and obviously, no sane person would act like that but in other words, that gives a bad name to all of us as well as those few that leave big open holes and damage and plunder historic sites over here. We as a whole, over here are seeing our hobby become more restricted because of all these negative issues and also, the way that our society wrongly interprets our treasure hunting hobby. I (do) feel like you guys are like a "brother from another mother" to me. This is a respectable, honorable expression of brotherly love and admiration over here in my country so I hope you are honored by this statement. I really mean this. Greg, no problem. Thank you for providing the local US info. Detectorist's life is sometimes harsh here, too. Archaeologists hate us and they constantly try to stop our hobby (but with no success). Also, we do have people that do not respect anything and all others have to pay the bad image tribute. I think situation is somewhat similar, more or less :)
Oh yes viforata, you are correct. It's (very) similar here too and (yes), the archaeologists hate us here too and probably just as much as in your country but you did expose a truth in what you said. It is actually the careless, bad ones that are why the archaeologist hate us but of course, they are hating the wrong ones. People like you and I who do not do these disrespectful things to historic sites and we always try to cover our holes after our diggings. Their anger is clearly in the wrong direction and then they make all these over done laws that restrict all of us. Even some parks here, are off limits to metal detectors. Yes, regular city parks. It's terrible and if this happens, many of us have no other place we can use metal detectors and homeowners are getting either, very greedy or they hear too much negative stories about big holes being left open and they are afraid that their lawns will end up like this so they will forbid any metal detectors. It's really a tragedy here, what is going on.
Well, Romania has a lot of public land that one is free to detect. Where to detect is not a problem here. Also, agricultural lands are not fenced and you can detect there as long as you do not destroy the crops. Forests have the same status most of the times. Only very few people detect parks here. Cities are not so big and it's quite easy to reach outside places. We have to stay away of archaeological sites but this is natural.
Thank you viforata. I like that you have these freedoms and maybe one day, I will be able to travel to visit and enjoy the freedoms in your country that we once enjoyed here but only to a certain amount. There was always this fencing policy here and this entitlement/ownership mentality here and people here, seem to have always overdone this attitude here because, for one thing, it was written into our constitution and made into law but it was flawed from the beginning as it accommodated the greedy and here, the greedy settlers and government took the land from the Native peoples(the Sioux, Cherokee, Ute, Osage, etc.). So in that regard, I (like) the fact that your average countrymen and women don't have the mentality of greed, we have here. Thanks for your information. If I do visit, I might bring my Blisstool LTC-64X or my Nexus Bonanza and we both could go on a hunt for coins or treasure and be out in the beautiful countryside especially in Autumn. Nice idea.
