Being a great nephew of Ernesto, i concur, this tube is complete nonsense, he got the nickname in Bolivia because ché is what he'd use as a greeting when entering guerrilla camps. It's an Argentine verbal tick, more common in Buenos Aires. I can allways spot Argentines in Europe, it's similar to 'like' for brainless valley girls, only it also serves as 'hello', 'ciao', and occasional expletive, as well as 'dude', 'wow', 'damn', et c .

The nickname Che was not acquired by Guevarra as a child, but during his travels in America. This emphasized his Argentine origin. In his childhood and adolescence he was called Tete, short for Ernesto.

    • @soulsaproductions2024
      @soulsaproductions2024 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

That's absolutely right. He acquired it while he was in Mexico with Castro and the other Cuban revolutionaries he met there. 'Che' is very commonly used in Argentina. It's the equivalent of 'mate' in UK English or 'buddy' or 'dude' in US English. The Cubans were so amused by Guevara's frequent use of the word 'che' that it became his nickname.

I studied Cuban history in college, and it turned out that one of the Spanish professors was a Cuban lawyer who spoke to our class. He related how he grew up with the Castros and fought with them in the mountains. After the revolution succeeded, he said, he was made a judge by Fidel. But - it turned out - that he was expected to sentence "enemies" to death on Castro's orders. With tears in his eyes, he spoke about the betrayal of his ideals, and of leaving Cuba on one of the last possible flights.

His ancestor had fled Ireland to Spain and then to what would become Argentina after a losing the fight with Cromwell's forces in the 1700's. As Che's father said, “the first thing to note is that in my son’s veins flowed the blood of the Irish rebels”. On his 100th birthday, Ireland had a postage stamp with his image. I think it’s so important for us to look at the early lives and how people such as Ché grew up. It tells so much more about them than the later parts of their life when they actually did the things they’re famous for.
Like for example, Ché going through rigorous schooling for years in order to become a doctor to help people in his country. Knowing all that just adds a couple shades to everything else he did in life. It just kinda legitimizes him as someone who was genuinely trying to help his people. As opposed to many of the other leaders out there who just use the system to become an all powerful dictator with an endless supply of power and money.

To me it is amazing how what used to be a powerful Spanish Empire was disintegrated and all this countries created a story of their own influenced by Great Britain (old enemies of the spanish empire) and the USA, a whole world forgotten at the south of Anglo America that has, in its own rigth, the most unique history and it seams to be still a resounding voice of the global Spanish Empire. A guy like Che traveled almost the entirety of this huge land and felt nothing but sorrow and anger towards the USA, that lone fact, to me... speaks on its own.

The Spanish are not the victims here and Spain has got to be one of the least marginalised nations on Earth. On top of that, Britain wasn’t just the enemy of Spain - Spain was hated across Europe during the 16th century up until the Peace of Westphalia at least - largely due its attitude regarding its new world trade routes - and the Netherlands are the ones who came up with the “golden legend”.
Che did not feel anger at the USA because the Spanish Empire disappeared ffs. Promoting neo-colonialism will go do soooo well with the indigenous peoples of Latin America!

The Founding Fathers deliberately went about creating a new historical culture for the USA, which is why Columbus is revered there and why Americans no longer play cricket. Post-1865 the US underwent rapid change that made it even more distinct.

@@XellosMetalliumYour intel was obsolete before you were even born, mate.
      Here's a fact check:
The guy was born in Argentina, where most people are white or white-ish, so his way of seeing things was initially influenced by that. Before becoming a Marxist, at the age of merely 24, Guevara said this in his diary:
"The blacks, those magnificent examples of the African race who have maintained their racial purity thanks to their lack of an affinity with bathing, have seen their territory invaded by a new kind of slave: the Portuguese.
[...] The black is indolent and a dreamer; spending his meager wage on frivolity or drink; the European has a tradition of work and saving, which has pursued him as far as this corner of America and drives him to advance himself, even independently of his own individual aspirations."
      He was clearly racist then.
However, after gaining class consciousness and maturing, he became staunchly anti-racist. In 1964, while adressing the United Nations, he said the following:
"The final hour of colonialism has struck, and millions of inhabitants of Africa, Asia and Latin America rise to meet a new life and demand their unrestricted right to self-determination.
[...] We speak out to put the world on guard against what is happening in South Africa. The brutal policy of apartheid is applied before the eyes of the nations of the world. The peoples of Africa are compelled to endure the fact that on the African continent the superiority of one race over another remains official policy, and that in the name of this racial superiority murder is committed with impunity. Can the United Nations do nothing to stop this? [...] Those who kill their own children and discriminate daily against them because of the color of their skin; those who let the murderers of blacks remain free, protecting them, and furthermore punishing the black population because they demand their legitimate rights as free men - how can those who do this consider themselves guardians of freedom? The government of the United States is not the champion of freedom, but rather the perpetrator of exploitation and oppression against the peoples of the world and against a large part of its own population."
In the case of whether he was homophobic or not, it's still up to debate; but he was undeniably anti-racist in the years when his opinion mattered, which is when he got into politics.
Also, Cuba was reactionary at first, but they became more and more progressive over the years; just like Guevara, in a way. Castro regretted his homophobia in his final years.

What war was ever won without extreme levels of brutality? There are no better examples of extreme brutality in the world today than what the US and Israel have been doing in the world for the past few decades. Ernesto Guevara acquired his nickname, 'Che' when he was in Guatemala. He met up with Fidel Castro and other Cubans exiled for their involvement in the attack on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba. They were lucky they were not executed like many other combatants in Cuba.
During this association, the Cubans nicknamed him, 'Che' because like most Argentinians, he used the filler syllable 'che' similarly to Canadians using 'eh' in their language, or the English often using the word, 'what'.
In Spanish, they might say something like, "Pero che, que distinto no cierto?"

If you found this interesting I would recommend reading Guevara’s Motorcycle Diaries, his account of his trip through South America as a young medical student with his friend Alberto on his motorcycle, La Poderosa II.
It was before Guevara was heavily involved in revolutionary activity (as in Cuba for which he is best known) but you notice perhaps some of the seeds are being planted when he checks out some mines and plants owned by American firms, and the state of the very poor and especially the indigenous populations of South America.
Che’s writing style is sometimes beautiful, and sometimes humorous. It’s one of my favorite books I’ve read recently (although I am a total sucker for Latin American culture so it adds up! lol) and I totally recommend it! (They also made a film out of the diaries but I haven’t seen it so idk if it’s any good)

The CIA agent who was present when Guevara was killed says he almost felt sorry for him but then, he says, "I thought of the damage he had done to my country." What damage was that? I have tried and tried to find out what damage Che Guevara did to the U.S. but can find nothing. At that point in history, the U.S.A. was busy exploiting as much of the Americas as they could manage and have a lot to be ashamed of, in that regard. Was the damage, perhaps, that Che prevented some of that exploitation? Felix Rodriguez (the CIA operative) wasn't even decent enough to follow through on one of Che's last requests, which was that his pipe be given to one of the Bolivian soldiers who was good to him while he was a prisoner. That's by Rodriguez's own admission. As an Australian, I'm not particularly interested in U.S. politics but even I can see that the U.S. government has a lot to answer for in that era (I'm 71). The U.S. government was unashamedly imperialistic and felt that they had some sort of divine right to own every bit of territory they could lay hands on. The Americans declared war on Spain (oh so altruistically! Yes, that's sarcasm) and the then Secretary of State, John Hay, described it as "a splendid little war." I should think so! It netted them The Phillipines, Guam, Puerto Rico. They promised not to annex Cuba but forced the Cubans to allow them significant intervention in Cuban affairs. Oh, and they decided to annex Hawaii, too, even though Gawaii had nothing to do with Spain. But, hey, take what you can while the going is good...right? Pearl Harbour would be a great resource, so that's a good enough reason to overthrow the Hawaiin monarchy! Then, of course, there's American Samoa...bit of murky history there with the U.S. and Germany splitting it between; then, low and behold, the chiefs ceded the territory to the U.S. One wonders if they had any choice, given the military might that was now present in their islands. And the U.S. claims that they are not imperialists! Give me a break! My own country's history and its abuse of native peoples is bad enough but I am soooo glad that I am not American. The U.S. record in regard to black people, imprisonment, white priviledge, treatment of women (even in 2020, the U.S. ranks 75th in the world for women in meaningful political positions and is the worst amongst modern countries for deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth - black women being the most affected) is appalling. But Che Guevara did damage to the United States? Yeah, right!

I want to add about Che Guevara. I compared him with don Quixote of the 20th century.Che Guevara was this philosophy is Messianic desire to help the vast majority of people .That is why he deliberately sacrificed personal interests for the sake of their goals. We do not find in the world a similar example, when a person who is at the pinnacle of power leaves everything and goes in search of revolutionary adventure where the chances to win almost was not. It's a Firefly that will remain forever. Well, maybe mother Teresa, who gave themselves to the sick and orphans. Fifty years have passed since the death of Che Guevara, and his name hovers over the earth like a living radio wave .The reason is simple and old as the world itself: heroism, unselfishness, and high principles continue to attract people, in spite all the "collapse of hope". The life of the individual is a million times more than all the property of the richest man on earth." ( Che Guevara).
