Talk Radio is painful right now, If Mike Vrabel signs somewhere else same guys would be like Patriots and Kraft are mess and missed out on Mike Vrabel.. want to talk both sides
Good on Aaron Glenn to say no to the Pats who were just trying to signal they are serious about the rooney rule, the other two candidates were out of the league so they werent going to say no to the opportunity of a HC interview even though likely knew it was a sham
Michael Holley is wrong. Patriots fans want Mike Vrabel or Ben Johnson. But that's it. The list ends there for Patriots fans. (Even though I want Brian Flores)
If you think about it. The Patriots last year chose Mayo OVER Vrabel. They could have chosen either guy but they went with Mayo. So say what you want but the Patriots saw that Mayo didn’t have the chops to be their Head Coach (simple FACT) so they course corrected and now pursuer Vrabel. Holley should stop villainizing the Patriots. The Patriots could have gone another difficult year with Mayo & perhaps he would have realized trying to be the players friend was NOT good but they chose to pivot. Having watched the entire train wreck of a season I think they made the right decision.
I agree with the latter. It should be but this is and will forever be, a relationship business. Owners will tend to lean on their established network and the recommendations that are provided as a result.
They knew who they wanted and shouldnt have to interview anyone else, its all semantics anyway. They had a minority coach this year and let him walk into the position even though he wasnt qualified.
The sham of this interview process is that the Patriots only interviewed 1 legit HC (Vrabel). If Vrabel signs with another team, they would have start the whole interview process again, with legit HCs like Carroll, Saleh, etc.
Ben Johnson actually said yes to their interview request, his is this morning for what it’s worth, but that’s it. That’s why their whole process is bs. Everyone knows it’s only Vrabel for the Krafts, which is fine. But for me it’s not about the Rooney Rule and how they handled it, it’s just that they won’t interview others and are impatient for Vrabel, that’s making their process a sham. They should be requesting to meet with other coaches, and as they exit the playoffs do so to learn more about the league and their team. Instead they’re sticking with their familiar comfort zone of a former guy (or guys since plenty of people are reporting McDaniels will be back as OC) and thinking that will resolve the issue and immediately bring a winning culture back to the team.
NFL to the Patriots: How dare you point out the stupidity of the Rooney Rule so blatantly! Please do a better job at pretending that merit doesn't matter so much....we need to act like racists and make the color of someone's skin matter. BTW - Vrabel is an excellent choice for the League.
I'd go so far as to say this: either Florio is deliberately being obtuse, or he's not as smart as I thought. Bob Kraft didn't "swing big" with Jerod Mayo and the succession plan. Jerod Mayo was never THE succession plan, just part of the Kabuki theatre to get the guy they actually wanted all along. It's unfortunate that Mayo, Leftwich and others agreed to be part of it. Props to Aaron Glenn for refusing the part.
It seems like they are saying they want to punish a team for only technically following a rule, while also indicating that the team is cheating to its own disadvantage and that we should disolve the Rooney Rule because it is now best practice and by getting rid of it you allow bad ownership/management to fail. With all the analytics in sports it would be interesting to see who are Rooney Rule coaches, and have their results been above or below average. If they perform above average there is no need for the rule, and if they perform below average what can we do to make it so teams who comply with the rule are not punished?
There is a simple phrase to describe these two interviews. It’s called a loophole in the rule! They want Vrabel and they just had a great interview with Ben Johnson.
Why bust. Mayo did enough to lose his job regardless of whether Vrabel is available or not. Not saying they don't really want him, they do. But if Kraft was willing to fire him, I don't see them rolling back that clown show out there just because Vrabel is not available.
They interviewed two black guys that have been out the league for two years fired the black coach that had 1 year to turn the franchise around with zero talent only to go after the white coach that doesn't guarantee wins lol what they did was some B's n everyone can see it unless you that white guy that thinks everything is already fair 😂
@@bucksn6ix because the best man that the owners and executive think should get the job should get the job, just like with position players. Whys it a Caucasian take? Lol it is a dumb rule. Because teams do this all the time. Its good in theory , but if a team knows who it wants to hire. They're going to go after them no matter what. Other teams just do it more subtlety. To me its more fake to interview serious candidates and make them think they have a chance when in actuality its all bogus. @ARBets23
Even when you comply with the Rooney Rule, it’s not good enough, even for a team that pre ordained a black man as its next head coach in spite of the fact that he had never even worked a day as a coordinator. As for Holley, looking for the next Mike Tomlin is like saving your QB pick for the 6th round because you’re looking for the next Brady - shut up dude.
I’ve never understood why teams don’t view the Rooney Rule as an excuse to get a glimpse into the minds of the coaches for your opponents. Even if you have already picked your guy, interviewing other team’s coaches has very obvious value. Why would you ignore that just to have some “check the box” interviews?
Man. i gotta tell ya i, i wasn't thrilled when they chose to go it alone and they kicked bill to the curb. kraft does a lot of dumb s**t. He should had allowed Bill to get his record, kraft acted like he wouldn't be focused on winning if he was obsessed with getting the record? Question: aren't they one and the same?
they didnt have to take the interview, they were not forced! if you hate what they did so much why dont you cover another team!!! go follow your boy Jerod, im sure he will get another job soon right? RIGHT!
I say they get rid of the rooney rule entirely just so we can see how racist every owner really is. If you want to hire a black guy, just say it or show it with your actions instead of making them dance through these hoops and not hire him anyway.
This conversation is somewhat annoying and naive. I’ve seen competent people passed over for promotions and I’ve seen companies post jobs to the general public with someone already selected for the position. Like it or not, this is the reality for a large portion of the job market.
Poker at 30,000K feet and demotions at the coaching ranks...the Mayo firing makes more sence every day. Holly as much as I've respected him in the past has show his true "color" as a biased Boston pundant.
