oh you love that he does what EVERYONE ELSE ON TH-cam DOES wow man haha crazy keep the trend up LOL WHO WANTS TO HEAR WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE DIMED????? HAHAHA CRAZY THOUGHT EH
I bought ST-2, at first I didn't get used to it, but now this is my most favorite pedal on the board... I rolled down the Drive knob to 0 and it gets to that JCM clean sound which I hear in different TH-cam demos and I use OD3 and it compliments ST2 soooo well!!! (I bought the OD3 after watching your video! Love your videos bro, a total OD3 channel haha, perfect place for OD3 fanbase)
the st-2 is my favorite!, sounds great with a little bit pre boost of an overdrive. the deluxe reverb sounds also great on bass, definatly worth checking out.
It's great to here all these pedal demo's. It is so hard to find a guitar store that has 3 or 4 of these to demo for myself. Keep up the great work. It make it easier for me to buy a pedal that works for me.
Power Stack is the only one still manufactured (source Boss home page). I have the Bassman, and for my needs, low gain overdrive sound, is doing a great job. About the others I like the ST2, with the BC2 as runner-up. The FBM1 is the only one that has a Mid range control. : )
Thanks for the video. You make these pedals sound better than I can! I liked the way the Bassman pedal got rid of the harsh top end that plagues Boss drive pedals. I am going to try your test for myself and see what my ears hear in person.
Thank you for this video. I had the FDR-1, best was the reverb and tremolo. The sound was too midrangy and thin for my taste. Now I have the FBM-1 and I love it. My amp is a Marshall JCM 800 combo.
So, I have been using the power stack on my board going into an actual fender bassman cab. The amp is a PA135. I've also used the power stack into a bassman amp/cab. I ended up getting and od-200 because it also has he power stack. I love the power stack pedal. However, I'm a bassist! So it's very different. I also am getting the bassman pedal. I've got lots of tone tweaking to do and am excited about it. This video definitely got me on this initial search for the perfect bass tone. The power stack was just a hunch that I'd like it.
I wish i have courage to demonstrate how i used my 8 years old Boss ST2. ST2 is very reliable all around rock en roll sound. My setup is Ts9 (just to boost my clean) then ST2 put them together and set the knob to ULTRA you will have the most wonderful metal sounding guitar. And there is Zoom 50g to provide eq boost whenever i have solo to cut to the mix.
I remember buying an st2 when it came out about what? 15 years back maybe? I was still a teenager and played for only some years. The guy in the guitar store said it was one of the best Marshall pedals. And boy, did I want a Marshall tube amp. I deeply regret selling that pedal about a year ago. It did sound really good, especially on a slightly overdriven amp. Might buy it again hehe.
The BC2 is still the best Vox in a box I've heard to this day. It's insane how it nails the warmth and compression of overdriven chords. It's very apparent when playing 7ths or other Beatley chords. You would never know from this demo tho, which was dialed in way too high. The ST2 is also incredible at getting the big stack sound out of a Fender amp. Both are underrated and worth their cost. They shouldn't be looked at as overdrive pedals tho. They don't really stack too well, except for the BC2 maybe at low gain settings.
@@MrTjakradirja I would definitely say they were more geared for using as a preamp. They sound really good into the return of an amp fx loop. But it's really just semantics because technically all overdrives are preamps.
I think the 59 sounds that way because it wasn’t meant to be a guitar amp. We just adopted it and Jim Marshall made it better for the frequency response we needed. Maybe they were too honest in modeling it and used very vintage examples rather than reissues tailored to guitarists ? Great video. I’ve owned all 4 of these but let the ST and BC go a while back.
I haven't tried these pedals, but I fully expect them to sound much better into the effects loop instead of fighting with the existing EQ in your amps preamp.
Trying to remember if it was ever confirmed that these pedals emulated amp and speaker, or just amp ? If I recall correctly, there is no obvious speaker on or off switch for direct recording to a DAW.
It kind of makes sense that the Marshall and Vox pedals would sound better going through a Fender amp. I imagine those amp in a box pedals really appeal to people who have a different sounding amp, and want the versatility of two different amp sounds without having to lug around two amps. I’ve not had experience with these pedals, but I’d wager the Fender pedals would sound better if played through British voiced amps. It seems like the frequencies of the Fender pedals are more similar to the Fender amp you’re using, but in a way which creates more dissonance verses enhancement.
Awesome man. Thanks for your videos, I started to use boss overdrive pedals combined together to brighten the sound, to make it more interesting. Especially with the gain knob all the way down… slight difference make the sound more interesting and you can literally play for hours experimenting with the combinations…
Power Stack sounded great on all settings. The Deluxe Reverb never sounded good to my ears. Funny enough, the OD-3 sounded best paired to the Fuzz Face.
For folks who don’t like to play with settings on their pedals fbm-1 is not very useful. There’s a very tiny spot on the gain knob where you can set the thing up on the edge of break up… if you add more it becomes very grainy, and those grains are very small, which is not cool to me… if you turn it left, no grain at all, momentarily… but the sound is very warm overall, nice base for any folks who like fender style amps but trying to get all their sound from pedalboard so it could work with any clean amp
MICHAEL BANFIELD, The boss deluxe Reverb and Boss Bassman pedal when maxing out the output level its suppose to give that SRV SAG amplifier sound. Try to make a video lesson on how to get that SAG tone out of these guitar pedals because the harder your pick the guitar strings the pedals are suppose to SAG just like a tube amplifier.
I liked them all except for the FDR-1.. the break up is nice but don't know what's going on with that midrange. Funny enough, I think it was my favourite when used to color the fuzzface haha
I have the ST-2, and drive some other OD & DIST pedals into it the pre-amp of a Marshall DSL40CR on the clean channel. Looking to get the rest of the set when I can (even though I have a Vox AC30).
If I remember my history, the '59 and the '65 weren't around when the Fuzz Face was made, so the amps weren't really made to handle that type of effect on their tone modeling. So I expect the Fuzz to sound better on the Combo Drive and the Power Stack. Same thing with any form of overdrive or other distortion pushed into them.
I own the bassman and the combo drive ... the combo drive sounds better to me anyways.. it just gets jar if bees 🐝 if you turn up the Gain past noon with chords...but individual notes wow just wow I put a tube screamer in front of it with low gain and the volume almost dimed out and it really is amaz-balls LOL
Ude boss Ds 1 with Fender bassmann 59. Turn on both pedel,s om the same time. The Sound are very very high and powerfull. I Play with boss Fender bassmann 59 and Da 1.
I used a very clean and fairly neutral amp sound in this video, that way you get a lot of the sound of the pedal. You could use it to add boost to an already driven amp though, but you would be hearing less of the Bassman pedal and more of a mix it with your amp drive tone that way.
@@MichaelBanfieldGuitar great video..exactly how I use all my pedals..I have a cheap Bugera V22 the drive channel isn't great but the clean channel makes for a great pedal platform.. (new sub).. now watching all of your videos..good luck building your channel and keep em coming 😎✌
I would never use a Fuzz Face in conjunction with a Power Stack. Sounds way too muddy -- like you took your amp and submerged it in a giant vat of peanut butter.
The FBM-1 was the worst pedal from BOSS that I bought. Absolutely garbage tone. Lifeless and useless pedal. No matter how I tweaked it, the sound is down right awful.
@@MichaelBanfieldGuitar it's about 120$ new(99€) at Thomann. I got mine today for 50€ from the used market, it's a total banger in front of my small fenderish tube combo and even the SD-1 -> JCM800 Trick seems to work out pretty well, also boosting it with a FB-2. Great pedal that is!
@@MichaelBanfieldGuitar Still got to try it on the clean channel of my Peavey Classic VTX, but i guess it will work there, too, because that Amp is also fender-like and usually works great with pedals. You’re channel is awesome! Thanks for all these videos you create. They’re very helpful, and well thought out.
Glad you like them, thank you!
Every time I hear the st-2 in a demo video it sounds absolutely incredible. I gotta check one out one of these days.
just phoned a guy and agreed on the price of 60€s posted!
I got one. They sound real good, especially using low gain, and volume up more..
With an St-2 and a Bd-2, you'll never need another drive pedal on your board.
Congrats on 1K, you deserved it!
It blows my mind that I’ve got to 1k. Thank you!

Awesome 🤩 it’s a close call between the ST-2 and BC-2 for me! 🎸 great comparison 👏
Hey thanks for stopping by! Yeah I think my favourite in the end was probably the ST-2.

Thank you! And yes the OD-200 is now definitely one that is on my list!
I got the FDR 1. I use it with amps that don't have reverb. I like it a lot.
The Bassman sounded great in my opinion. Dark but warm and rich, sounds like it'd really cut in a mix

Liking that BC-2
Oh yeah, I hear that mid honk you're talking about with the FDR-1.
At one point I owned the ST2 and a Plimsoul. The Plimsoul got sold. The Boss seems to get little airtime for a great pedal 🌴
Yeah I think the ST-2 was probably my favourite, such a wide range of gain. Same for the BC-2 but I think I preferred the EQ character on the ST-2.
I love the Plimsoul because I can tame the high end with the treble cut knob.

Bc2 Full gain: Judas Priest and Hammerfall

Nice
Agree on the Deluxe Reverb, strange nasally sound.
Yeah I think it has a nice breakup, the character of the EQ just really takes some getting used to. Thanks for commenting!

Has a different flavour to the others doesn't it. Even though it wasn't my favourite, it works very well for certain things I thought.

This is great but why did you change guitars? you just went from humbuckers to tinny fender single coils, not really fair representation
boss amp in a suck
Fender stuff sounds irrelevant in my opinion, not even retro. Just my opinion...
The 3 Fender boss pedals were nice collectible toys, but not good pedals. People (including me) try to make them sound well but we can't.
ST-2 owns them all.
