Really when you think about it Three Houses tells a tragic story. A group of friends from school, torn apart by their own dreams and ambitions, driven to kill each other over their beliefs. The enemy standing before you your former classmate. The ally dying in your arms your best friend who, several short years ago, you believed would live a long peaceful life with you.
It would be like if your high school went off to war, and your classes split into different factions. Your friend who always sat with you at lunch and helped you with homework is the same person you are ordered to cut down.
It's really dark actually. . .

The root of pretty much everything you said is the church and it's ridiculous rules.
keep in mind that way before the war broke out Ashe's adopted father is ordered for execution after his brother was killed by the church in the past as well.
Later on Sylvain's brother is ordered to be killed because due to lacking a crest he ended up turning rogue.
The MC is nothing but a tool in Rhea's eyes, all a mean to an end for her to ressurect her mother and if things would've gone her way the Byleth would've ended up sacrificed and turned into a vessel.
Edelgard's entire family was killed in hopes of acquiring a major crest because otherwise their power and right to rule would've not been acknowledged by the church.
Literally the source of every conflict in the game is the church itself and the tyrant that Rhea is.
Overall I completely agree with you that this Fire Emblem is a complete tragedy.

At least it is a testement to how good the game's story is, if people are so eager to take sides and debate it.

Pawel 26 I know. I haven’t had a chance to play it as much as I would like so haven’t even finished one whole story yet. And it’s basically 3 games in one. (Wouldn’t be shocked if there was a 4th one after completing the main 3 maybe available through dlc at some point). And that’s not factoring the points in each game that radically changes the story.

Wish she didn't hide things so much from Dimitri. He probably would have been her ally if they had just talked at the academy pre timeskip and she could have explained that she planned to use up and destroy the ones who killed his father and her sibilings.

@@rustkarl By that point it was waaaay too late. Though I suppose that is part of the tragedy of things. Cluade and Edelguard basically have the same goal but while Claude is taking his time to learn the full picture, Edelguard charges ahead to finish things as soon as possible since she is literally dying. If the three lords had been able to be open with each other before the war they would definitely have been able to do great things together.
@@joelsasmad To be fair, how could she even know she could have trusted him? Considering how execution-happy the church appears, edelgard leaking literally any of her plan to someone who she can't 100% trust could potentially put her head on a literal chopping block, princess or not. And Dimitri seems like he'd be too noble and/or stubborn to work with the ones who slither in the dark. A big part of chivalry and being noble and stuff was fighting your opponents honorably. It's completely likely that he'd view working with them with the intention to stab them in the back once they served their purpose to be a dishonorable way to get his revenge, and would probably even think badly of Edelgard, in turn, for doing it. I can't imagine someone as noble as Dimitri allying himself with Edelgard in this context. Obviously he cared for her, but he'd be more likely to plead her to reconsider than to actually become her ally
Not to mention, if the ashen wolves dlc is anything to go by, Edelgard doesn't even seem to have memory of knowing dimitri when she was younger, suggesting even her memory had been tampered with during her time suffering human experimentation, giving her even less reason to trust or confide with him
Everyone: Fighting over who was right and who was wrong
Me who loves all the characters: reading “everyone lives” fanfics and crying as I pretend the war never happened and they were all pals until they died of old age
I've never been able to get into fanfics. It takes a truly talented author to replicate characters they had no hand in creating. It's kind of my same issue with like the new star wars movies. It just feels like different characters a different world.
@@anenemystand5582 i get it, but at the same time you have to just understand not everyone can replicate a character to a T. fanfiction is actually really good and there are alot of talented authors that put a small spin on the characters to not only make it easier to write them but adds some depth to them. like maybe their personality is a little off but in a good way. just because its not one to one dosent mean its bad in any way. Though i can agree with the new star wars movies those can go burn in fucking hell.

@@anonymous4183 That is true, but Edelgard can find a way to remove that curse from her, if she works hard enough to find a way to do so, and her paired ending with Lysithea is a good example of that, if I remember correctly

I’m pretty sure this song is about Edelgard and the fact that it doesn’t play in Crimson Flower makes me think that it’s the last route meant to be played. It’s also the shortest, the only one that has a condition, and it completes Byleth’s arc. Doesn’t mean that it has the best or happiest ending just that it completes the theme of the game.
I always thought Golden Deer was intended as the last route. It wraps up the stories of everyone without leaving any loose ends like the other routes do.
Dr. Madd I thought the opposite, it introduces a lot of the lore without much emotional weight so it feels more like something you’re supposed to do first to get a clear picture of the situation. But it’s also weird, because SS and VW looks like they were spliced together, I mean VW has a straight up copy of a cutscene from SS.
Abednego Kurio I think it’s the other way around SS has a cutscene from VW. I can’t imagine they designed SS before VW since SS seemed to me like it was supposed to be an optional secret path while VW is one of the main ones.
Dr. Madd Nah the cutscene was definitely from SS. Edelgard calls Byleth something that she only uses in routes where you teach the Black Eagles. It’s most likely a way to save money but it also shows that it some ways at least SS was developed first, though like I said it’s most likely merged instead of one being copied of the other. And about the secret path, it seems like CF was more of a secret than SS seeing how SS is the default route while you are able to miss CF even if you vhose the black eagles.
Abednego Kurio Oh I think I got that mixed up. I though CF was the default. I do think that SS is weird. It’s the only path without an exclusive final boss just recycling the CF one. Hard for me to think it was the originally intended path if they couldn’t have been bothered to make one more final boss because Rhea really comes out of nowhere in SS. I’d be really interested in knowing the development history since despite how complicated it is Three Houses is a well thought out game.

Unpopular opinion: I love all three houses. Honestly I dont think any of them were "right". However, I do have to say that Dimitri is my favorite Lord (just because I feel like as a character, he was the most interesting). This does NOT mean that I dont like the Golden Deer or Black Eagle routes. Honestly I dont get why people like to start wars over who is "right" or "wrong" because all of the characters were morally gray. Each had their reasons for fighting. But. If they were to have sat down and talked it through, they could've solved so much without the bloodshed. But! That wouldn't have made a tragic yet beautiful game :)
Exactly. That’s why I love this game. Each leader has a different point of view in fixing their country’s problems. They’re influenced by their own personal problems and those around them. That’s why I like Byleth’s inclusion in Smash. Three Houses means a lot to me me because despite of its flaws, it’s probably my favorite Switch game because of that experience
@@jacaerys4 I 100% agree. Fe3h is high on my list, (just below Breath of the Wild) as my favorite switch game. I felt like the story was brilliantly planned and executed. The fanbase can be toxic at times, but I have absolutely no qualms over the game itself. I throughly enjoy replaying it over and over, just to see the different endings. Most games get repetitive and boring after replaying them a lot, but I find myself enjoying each and every experience I have with Fe3h.
Me and a buddy have had this argument on repeat blue lion vs black eagle. though to be fair we both laugh at the end and enjoy the verbal sparring. In the end you can see how each house was right and wrong. I want a damn sequel for each house take my money please

I mean to be fair, I think the Golden Deer are as close to objectively right that the game gets. I'm a black eagle stan and while I genuinely can't, in good faith, say I love her methods, I do agree with Edelgards ideals. And blue lions, for as much as people hype it up, has it's own moral shortcomings in my opinion. However, the golden deer route didn't strike me as having any real moral issues. That's not praise, mind you. In fact, I think it works to the game's slight detriment that edelgard and dimitri's routes are so morally gray and claude's route, in comparison, has no immediate moral shortcomings, which kinda just makes it feel like the best route from a 'who is the most in the right' standpoint. So I'm curious as to what makes Claude gray exactly. Like yeah, he chose to fight, but Edelgard launching a surprise attack and Dimitri regressing into a blood-thirsty rage kind of left no one he could have talked things out peacefully with in the first place.

@@skateboardmd9163 i listened to some of it's music and while it's good, i still prefer others such as blazing swords, fates, and even shadow dragon lol. genealogy is in the mid tier of FE music in my opinion.
@@maibignutt6434 You do you then. I will agree that some music like Dragon Knights of Thracia and Dance in the Sky aren't that memorable. But everything else is just perfect imo. The Elibe and Archanea games for me were pretty forgettable sound-wise, I'm only able to hum 4 tunes from either pair of games despite having played both at least thrice.
I do agree that Fates kinda outdoes it though. Alongisde Awakening, Echoes (which is my actual favorite) and the Tellius games.

I also get heavy Dimileth vibes from this song alone. “Reach for my hand” is pretty much a huge theme in that route and their relationship. The whole “the blue moonlight” part of the song is pretty much the rain scene. I know it’s supposed to be a song for Edelgard but I like spotting nods to other routes in it.

Really? Love song to Byleth? I never really bought the Edelgard and Byleth shipping. I just don’t think they have much of a romantic connection. They do, to a point, if you force it. But I think there are so many other much more natural pairings for couples in this game. I really see Edelgard and Byleth as ultimate companions and like a sort of gifted protégé with the professor relationship, where he sees more in her than anyone else. Adding romance and sexual attraction really cheapens their bond in my opinion, in this specific case. At least that’s how I perceived them. I always thought male Byleth had a lot more romantic chemistry with a character like Dorothea or maybe Hapi or possibly even Petra or Ingrid or something.
This is the game that got me into fire emblem. It even got me to open up my old 3Ds so i can play fates.

i don't know why but each time i listen to this song i always feel like a kid again. it's a feeling that i love because when i feel like that, stress goes away and this cover is amazing for that
I may not have played this game, but I love how the game lets you truly bond with each character and house. Players feel the need to defend them and they feel strongly about their choice. No single route truly feels good after everything is done. It’s a little bittersweet but that what makes it so memorable for people.
This song single handedly made Amalee my favorite music artist and made me play Three Houses, which is my favorite game. It’s been almost a year and I couldn’t be so thankful.

I can't believe this video is essentially a year old now. The first few months when this came out I've had some great memories with it. I didn't have the game at the time, but the hype was up there.
Each of the main characters has some kind of backstory.
Edelgard: Princess of the Adrestian Empire who was subject to torture by a shady group just to give her the strength to challenge a religious faction directly.
Dimitri: Orphaned prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus who had the misfortune of witnessing his own father's murder and is haunted by the memories of those that died.
Claude: Future Sovereign Duke of the Leicester Alliance who has no idea about his father's lineage but learned his mother's lineage despite her wanting nothing to do with it and yet is expected to take up leadership of the Allaince in his grandfather's stead and is saddened by the state of affairs with neighboring Almyra and the Church of Seiros' secrets.
Byleth: Emotionally stunted youth whose mother was lost due to having a frail body and only lives because of said mother's sacrifice. Only family ever known was the father who also has emotional baggage.
