Hi Martha, Set up for either a 3-thread wide (left overlock needle) or a 4-thread overlock stitch. turn the stitch width dial to "M". Position the fabric edge to "kiss" the knife (as shown in my Tip Clip). To make any small adjustments, draw a line 1/4" from the raw edge of sample fabric and position the left needle on that line and stitch. This will tell you exactly where to make any tiny adjustments on fabric placement under the presser foot. Every serger has slight nuances and you want your project to look great. Making a sample (or 2 or 3!) will give you the answers without needing to rip out stitches. Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching!
Hi Marcy, it’s a true 1/4-inch seam allowance. To make it slightly narrower, narrow the cutting width by turning the dial from 8.5 down 1 tick or move the fabric edge ever so slightly left of the knife. Snap on the seam guide (as I should have done) to keep the scant 1/4” measurement consistent and accurate. Great question and thanks for watching!
Hi, For a 1/4-inch seam on the L890 using a 4-thread overlock stitch, set the cutting width one click below 5.5. Set the stitch finger on "R." Let the raw edge of fabric "kiss" the knife to skim off the whiskers. If you want a scant 1/4-inch, turn the cutting width to 5.5. Let me know your results and if you have more questions. Thanks for watching!.

Is this a scant 1/4”? If not, what do you suggest?

Would you be able to use the seam guide that comes with the BERNINAS with this technique?
Hi Kathy,
Yes-And I should have used it in the video!
You’re using a 3 thread overlock with this 1/4” seam. What about if you are using a 4 thread overlock? This is exactly how I gauge my seam as well.
