  • This video depicts what Dual Language teachers need to consider as they analyze and assess student writing holistically. Assessing writing side by side allows teachers to notice the assets that bilingual students bring into the learning space and it helps teachers identify areas where explicit instruction is needed. There are specific strategies that support this work, including theDictado and the Cooperative Strip paragraph where students learn about how writing works. These strategies provide opportunities for cross-linguistic connections and for English Learners, this explicit work can also be taken into Designated ELD.
