Sam has 99 problems and today we learned that plants are 70+ of them.
Loved this whole video.
Best. Comment. EVER.
Can we discuss how stunning her house is? House tour?! Also, the plants are divine and so is Sam.
Agreed. Love to know the company for a few furniture pieces.
Omg sameee
Omg yes! House tour lets go!!
I thought the same thing!
I don't mean to be a downer but she has said a few times that she is against house tours because she does not want peoples opinions/saying she does not deserve what she has. I don't know if her opinion has changed though.
I feel like i'm being introduced to your plants like they're people, love it.
I feel that too . And I recently became obsessed with plants . I’m going to give them names lol 😂
Yes, and so glad they were introduced to us. I’ve been waiting hahahha
My grandmother got an elephant plant as a wedding present, and she’s kept it alive for 46 years. The thing is huge. I have memories of playing hide and seek behind its leaves as a kid.
Wow 🥺❤️
Cool
Love giant taros 🌿💚
Wow! I have had mine for only about 6 months and I am praying I can keep the 3 little babies alive thru the winter.
OFFICIAL PETITION FOR MORE PLANT VIDEOS FROM SAM ON THE REG
I also identify with Matt in the morning and needing to keep my negative morning energy away for its own good 😢
The story about Matt's friend giving Sam his ex's plant in exchange for her ex's cutting board is absolutely sending me right now. 😂 It's a great feeling to laugh out loud this early in the morning. But seriously... what a great solution!
Thanks for this video, I aspire to be a plant mom like you one day. 😊
You discussing everything natural and earthy with your disco rainbow eyeshadow is giving me life.
Absolutely
Her eyeshadow is pretty fantastic. When the video loaded I chuckled and was like "that is the perfect shadow for this. It's so bright and random and it's kind of just so great."
Also, obviously Sam is gorgeous and we all know that but seeing her backed away from the camera and in her home it was like 😳 wow sam is really really gorgeous. 😍
The Selloum is exhibiting edema, which is when the cell walls in the plant burst from having taken in too much water. These plants are really prone to this but it's often a sign of stress
In this particular plant, I would increase the light (they want much more than you'd think) and be sure it's got good circulation
I could literally speak on plants for days, so I won't bore you by providing running commentary as I watch, but if you have any questions, I'm happy to help
You can solve the drainage issue by keeping your plants in their nursery pots and just using the decorative pot as a cover pot, then every plant has drainage
You can use a pebble tray and put a decorative fountain by your caladium. And definitely an N'Joy pothos.
Here I am, giving running commentary 🙃 sorry
I like your commentary! I love to learn about plants!
@@carolyn1985 Thank you! I'm happy it was helpful ☺️ I rarely get to share my information so I can just go wild if I'm not careful 😅
I had a feeling it's an N'Joy but never owned one so didn't wanna sound stupid 😅 thank you for confirming it for me!
And I definitely second the nursery pot thing, I pretty much keep all of my plants primarily in nursery pots and they never complain.
@@alettaa So many of them look so similar! This particular one is so gorgeous but such a slow grower 😩
There are definitely benefits to potting directly into decorative pots but I personally think keeping the nursery pots outweighs them, at least for my plant parenting style. I fought it for a long time but I've accepted it and my plants are happier! It's just limiting, I think, in some ways especially if a particular plant does better with more or less watering, etc.
@@hollypuckett3931 I still only have a couple of pothos, I need a better set up for them but good to know it grows slower, then it might fit 😄
Yeah, it definitely depends on a person's care style but nursery pots seem like a safe bet. I think my only plant currently in a decorative pot is my Philodendron Melano and even with that I am not sure I'll keep it in there 🤷🏻♀️
I love when I’m following someone for one of my hobbies (makeup) then they share another hobby of theirs, that I also love.
love a realistic plant tour thats 75% plants just fighting for their life and 25% thriving plants. all too relatable. 😂
This is 10/10 content. I’m a houseplant enthusiast and have watched tons of plant tours and have to say this one is probably my fave. Would love to see more plant related videos 🙌🏻
This is my favorite type of plant video. Yes, girl. Tell me all the shit those plants have put you through
I’m obsessed!!!
The Ming aralia loves to be trimmed back like a haircut it also comes back healthier. Sometimes they get to heavy and will drop the old leaves. Watering you want to make sure do not allow to dry out fully that’s what causes leaf loss.
The parlor palms are the drama queens of life! Unfortunately, the way they are produced they are bound to struggle! Your little guy is doing amazing! Instead of going large I’d go to the medium wide version next then move to large.
The baby pothos could be the pearls and jade or njoy!
The fruit flies you are saying are FUNGUS GNATS. If you purchase the organic insecticidal soap from Lowes and spray that after your waterings it will help prevent them. There are also little traps that are stickies you can stick in plants that like water and it just catches them they get stuck to it. Once you see one gnat there are 100s as you said they harvest eggs in the more moist plants. Light layer of sand on top or decorative rock helps suffocate them as well.
You are doing amazing!
This is EXACTLY the video I needed in my life as a new homeowner and plant lover who is hoping to have same decor vibes as your home. LOVE!!
As someone who owns a plant shop, I love this so much! I went from being a makeup artist at MAC, to being a plant mama! I love going on this journey with you sam lol.
This was PRECISELY what I needed. 12/10 plant tour. I pop these videos like skittles and the thing they’re all missing is an extensive and comedic retelling of the owners emotional journey to procure and sustain them.
I did ask for this video like 2 years ago!! haha so, thank you Sam
P.S. Was this the most chaotic plant tour I have ever seen? yes
Was this one of the most fun plant tours I have ever seen? Also yes
Yes to being a plant lady. That's the journey I'm on. Also, this eye look Sam...!!! You're such a talented MUA!
I love every part of this video. And I’m gonna need you to continue them to get us all through this dreary winter! The plants are superb, house immaculate, and the commentary, the commentary is what will bring me back to watch this video again probably many times. Now I am gonna have to go plant shopping.
What a subtle flex with the thriving calathea.
From what we can see of your home… beautiful, magical, incredible!
Loving the plant tour too!
The secondary house tour was also much appreciated! Your house is STUNNING!
Ive wanted this plant tour forever, I needed this plant tour more than any other video on the internet. I love plants and I love your videos, even if I didn’t love plants I’d watch this, heck I’d watch anything you put out 🥺🤍 I hope you’re doing well Sam, your humour and videos make me smile ☺️
There's nothing like your favourite content creator posts the thing you need most in the world🖤 Sam does this for me all the time😂
I love the way you talk about things. I just feel so good after watching you. I literally cracked up so many times. Especially the Matt’s bad attitude thing and taking it out of that bad situation hhhahahaa I cackeled
This was my favorite houseplant tour ever. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I swore…. Thank you, Sam.
I am f’ing obsessed with this video! So funny, so fun - the dragon scale is my favorite. I hope your plant jail plant gets pardoned soon! I feel like we should write it letters…
I have watched you forever and now you are my favorite plant you tuber too!
I mean the plants yes but also your house is STUNNING! Would love to see some of the rooms a bit more in depth
Sam ‘I feel like this is the worst plant tour ever’. Me ‘this is the fucking best plant tour ever’! I usually get bored watching indoor plant tours but I was devastated when yours came to an end! I absolutely lived for your narrative and back story for each plant and would love to see an updated video of your herbaceous children 😀
i would never in a million years click on a random video in my feed that said "plant tour", but when TH-camrs I stan (Samantha, Jenna Marbles) posted plant tours I got a snack and enjoyed every second of the video
I know this is not a new video but i loved it, I haven’t been watching TH-cam a lot and today binged watch 4 of your videos, love all your plants
This kind of made me miss Jenna marbles. I wish I had more space to have more plants. Also FU to whoever stole my fiddle leaf lol
I would love a Jenna Marbles plant update
@@heyitsvicv I think about this often.
Ferns like a northern facing light and can take a good amount of light just not straight direct light all day or they will burn and crisp. They also like moist soil but not sopping wet so the roots are sitting in water. A good tip is to always keep plants in nursery pots and put them in cover pots. Gorgeous plants and house! 💚
Love it! Am I the only one who was expecting to be introduced to them with names like Walter, Ted, Gretchen, or Margaret...?
I love your personality. The dry sarcasm is everything. I never knew I needed this, but you're completely right...I absolutely did.
Hey y'all! I'm just here to share something I've learned about plants as years of being a serial plant killer was really getting me down. Don't touch your plants! Seriously! In the wild, the only thing that really ever "touches" a plant are the things that *eat them*. So when a plant is touched, it releases stress chemicals and toxins in order to attempt to drive off the thing that's feeding on it, which can make the plant sick or even kill it!
The only time you should *ever* touch your plants is when you're dusting them! Trust me, your plants will be SO much healthier once you stop touching them!! I've managed to keep a plant longer than 9 months once I stopped, I was AMAZED because I was terrible with plants. 🤣
25:42 "this F$&@ing thing" 🌴 (finally...a plant tour i can't relate to!!)
Wow. Yes. The video we all needed. I love every single one of your plants. But can we take a brief second to just admire your home. It’s quite lovely and this was the unofficial home tour we also needed. So thank you for making everyone’s Tuesday💗💗
Sam says this was the worst plant tour, but I think it was THE. BEST.EVER!
I have NEVER related so hard when you left her in the bathroom… “I love you, but I hate you” 😭
Late to watching this, but three things:
1. It's so nice to hear your talk about your plant passion and their individual stories 2. Your house looks beautiful from the little bits we can see 3. You look like a golden goddess! Like, pure fire mama!!
Love the plant content. A makeup look based on your favorite plant would be so cool!
Thank you Sam for doing video like this! I think there people like me who would enjoy more of those plant videos!! Don't worry I'm a plant mom and you can't avoid certain problems when growing plants especially having lots. Love your plants!
I am 5 minutes in and I just want to let you know that this is already my favorite Samantha Ravndahl™️ video of ever. I'm with you on the pothos pronunciation, and now I'm jonesin' to take a lil visit to my local plant shoppé.
Your plants are beautiful and so is your home. Laundry on the floor included.
I’m a serial killer at this point, but I can’t stop buying plants, I had a Fern that I adored, that plant was a she, and she reminded me of a 90’s girl with curly big beautiful hair. I wanted to put hoops on her so bad but you know that would be crazy😉 I currently have a fig plant that is obsessed with driving me crazy from the stress of the leaves falling off. Your plants are looking happy and healthy, great job Sam. You
Plants literally don't even mind dying😭 its part of their life cycle, they won't even be mad at you for killing as many as you want🖤
Pothos are my favorite, they thrive easily and it makes me feel like a nature goddess
Hi Sam! Your caladium and alocasias are probably going dormant for the winter so do not worry/think you're doing anything wrong if leaves start to die (even though they're brand new). Mine are doing this too, it's totally normal 👍🏻❤️
YES! That’s exactly what I was thinking too. If she had the caladium in the ground, she’d lose the leaves & they’d stop growing for the winter anyway. Being a bulb, they’d either come up again next year (so long as there isn’t a deep freeze) or they’d need to be dug up and preserved for dormancy and replanted in the spring.
I’ve actually not seen this variation of Caladium as a house plant before - I’ve always seen them as a perennial.
Yep yep!
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! More plant content from you pleassse. I really really enjoyed everything you had to say about your plant stories - trauma included. It makes it so relatable.
I wish this video gave even the slightest accurate representation as to how truly engulfed your house is in plants; it’s like 1:1 house to plant ratio
More forest than house at this point. 😂
I come here to see this video at least once a month. I love it
a minute in & you've already made me smile for the first time today... Thanks Sam, I needed it. Much love to you, your family & your plants 💛
For your calladium Hilo - keep it where it is but purchase one of those adorable small countertop humidifiers that you can sit right next to it and it will look perfect with what you have there. I think if you do that and fill that thing once or twice a week during the winter your Hilo will be happy!
DYING at this caption because I am reading it in your voice and tone 🤣❤️ Love as always from your Canadian neighbour! 🇨🇦
Sam is Canadian.
This was the best video I’ve watched in at least the last two years.
In reference to that Alocasia you were talking about with the cool looking stem, that's normal for alocasias! They'll "conserve" energy by killing a leaf and using the resources to grow a new leaf. So you're not doing anything wrong!
Last year has been extra shitty and my mental health took a hit ...so i got into plants in the last 5/6 months , caring for something does help. My favorites are plants with velvet foliage, i can totally recommend the Philodendron Micans and i have 3 already , it is the easiest trailling/climbing plant and is growing like a weed!
The Zebrina (Alocasia in general) is usually only able to sustain 3 to 5 leaves at once, as far as i know , so don't stress to much about loosing older leaves. They can also slow down or go dormand in the winter so even if the loose all leaves , wait until spring or summer because they might come back.
I have a Zebrina , a Frydek and a Regal Shield that are doing well but i am killing my Amazonica (i probably bought it already having root rot).
SAM! When I lived in Seattle my husband did PM for a landscaping company. He always talked about how they would do a ‘thriller, spiller, and filler’ for the designs 😂 it always made me laugh. Just thinking about that when looking at your shelf by your bath! Love this content 💗
this was the best plant tour i've ever watched. It is an addiction, but so rewarding!
Loved this. Made me feel better about my own plant struggles and made me want to buy more. ❤️
I’m 4 minutes in and this is the best plant video I’ve ever watched, Thankyou
I couldn't care less about plants. And yet, here I am, having the time of my life listening to Sam talk for 30 minutes about her planty plants.
This is the best plant tour I've ever seen
"That's normal, this is not, That is!" 😂 Just as everyone watching was caught up in daydreaming about the gorgeousness that is Sam's new house ... We're brought back down to the relatability level with the rolled towels & the hidden dirty laundry. Fucking love it!
Coming from a lifelong plant lover with a horrible black thumb, I feel like you've given me a little bit of hope that I might finally be able to keep a plant alive. Idk how that's what I got from a half hour of you explaining what's wrong with each of your plants but oh well. 🖤
so I watched your video back when it came out and at that time I wasn't into plants... now 6 plants and a new obsession later I rewached it and all I can say is we need more of this content, Sam. I'm so burned out of makeup and I just want to hang around listening to you talk! much love
As we are suffering through this insane cold snap in Alberta, love being transported to your tropical greenhouse. Can you maybe do a video on your fave places to buy unique plant pots?
This is incredible! As a fellow plant hoarder, I loooove hearing other people talk about their battles with the bug, light, humidity issues! I swear it takes just as much effort to keep my plants alive as it does my freckin kids!
This is progress for Sam. We all know her struggles with plant care 😂
I have had an orchid for about 3/4 years now and I do NOTHING to it except water it when I remember every few weeks or months or whatever but she blooms at least 6 times a year!!!!!! I think plants just love doing their thing
Also you’re a trooper to clean out those fungus gnats I would’ve cried for years
I didn’t own one plant. Then I watched this video that apparently i needed to watch. 16 plants later from plantsome I’m now a new plant mom. You did this. 🤣
Just found your channel today. I saw the ilmakiage, and then went to your shade video, which I thought was awesome, and now plants!! You crack me up! Never saw a plant video quite like yours 😂. You should try Hoyas, they are quite easy. They prefer to be left the hell alone lol, they keep to themselves, no kids being dropped off 😂
You said this isn’t all of them!? So do another one! I love how you talk about the stories behind your plants!
This was my most favorite plant tour video ever! I feel like I would talk about mine the same way. Also can we talk about how adorable it is that you have sticky note on your shower that says “plant jail”? Adorable, chef’s kiss!
I will watch anything that you create, Sam. I’m not a plant enthusiast and yet I clicked on this so quickly.
For humidity, you can put a tray with pebbles and some water under the plant. Or, i use a diffuser.
For spider mites, you can shower your plant, that should knock off most of the mites. Or, you can mix dish soap with water, wipe it onto the affected leaves. Should clear them up
The fungus gnats were over whelming for me because I WAS an over water. Not any more. I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Plant mom about a year (ish) now and it has helped my mental!
Love your plants and how real you always are in your videos! Plants are def a labor of love but worth the ups and downs for the satisfaction of growing with them. The ones that don't make it I just treat like paying for a class and try to learn from the experience. It can be heartbreaking to loose one that you've grown attached to but not even plants in nature are perfect but we do our best to keep them indoors out of their natural habitat. Sometimes it just takes time for a plant to acclimate and get used to a new environment before it can truely thrive with proper care.
I usually don't comment on videos but I've been a long time sub and want to also say you and your new place look amazing - I'm so proud of how far you've come so happy for you!
Your pothos you called the glacier is called the epipremnum n'joy😊 I have it too and it's gorgeous
Edit: girlllll, your monstera Thai constellation 😭😭😭 absolutely perfect
It looked like a Monstera Albo Variegata to me🤷♀️
@@meowk5812 you could be right, sorry. Didn't check before commenting
i have no clue what half the words you said were, but i thoroughly enjoyed watching this. thanks :)
If any of you guys want a resilient plant that is honestly thankful for the infrequent waterings and mediocre sun… ZZ plant. I was a serial plant killer, and that sweetie pie broke my curse. 10/10. Cheap, easy, gorgeous, quick grower.
I gave one to my daughter who has never owned a plant. It’s thriving. The less attention you give it the more it grows👍
My favourite video in the world. My gosh, i love your sarcastic humour. Anyways, i have to go buy a plant now.
You've been missed I love the makeup today also I wish I had even a eighth of your skills 🥺💕🐰🤩😍💚💖
Also you're home is absolutely stunning from what you showed thank you for this!!
I LOVED this video! I am a plant momma as well and you were cracking me up! The struggle is real! Thanks for posting this, it made my day:)
Your house is absolutely stunning!! I'm assuming you styled the interior yourself because it looks amazing and i remember you talking about getting more into interior decorating! This video had me chuckling quite a few times. I wish I could have real plants but my cats chew on all my fake plants and the only real plant I ever had was this cute little succulent from ikea that said cats pushed the pot into the sink and killed in cold blood 😩. Random video request but I saw your perfumes in that one bathroom, would you do a perfume collection video? I can already imagine your descriptions for each scent 😂
this might be one of my new favorite sam things on youtube fuck yes 🙌🏻
Yes! Sam and her plant collection! I'm definitely in! :)
As someone who doesn't really put much energy into plants, or sees the worlds obsession with plants, your videos are always a pleasure to watch. I am more than happy to watch you talk about plants because it brightens up my day. Also, I am LOVING your eye makeup in this video. I want to have the courage to wear makeup like this.
I love this! I am a longtime subscriber to you, it's cool we are always into the same things. I got into tropical plants 4 years ago and now I run a small mail order business for plants. So thankful, the plants have helped support me thru university. Anyways please post updates on your Anthurium Clairenervum :)
This is one of my favorite videos you’ve ever posted
I buy plants because I can’t afford therapy, and I can’t afford therapy because I buy plants.
This was awesome! I loved your plant tour🪴
When beauty gurus get tired of hoarding makeup, they hoard plants. Love it.
Oh gosh I have so much plant info for you. Caladiums winterize. They die off in the winter. They do tend to sacrifice a leaf for a new one as they mature. Just hold back on fertilizer and keep watering it and in spring it will come back.
I get plant stakes and those tiny butterfly clips to hold them up.
Also if a plant is doing bad you can literally chop it down to the top of the dirt and as long as the roots are good it will grow back a better plant.
For the scale….keep treating and wiping down the leaves and also repot it with fresh new dirt. Rinse the roots off completely.
Not fruit flys… fungus gnats. They are harmless but super annoying. Bottom water so the top inch of soil stays dry. It’s one of the only thing that gets rid of them or at least keeps them at bay. Get those yellow sticky tapes to catch the new ones that fly out. Also you can do a water hydrogen peroxide mix to kill the larvae. Google that ratio.
Also, do you and Matt sleep in separate rooms/beds? If you’re up for the discussion, I’m intrigued and would love to learn more about how that works. Because a lot of people refrain from discussing, and some of us have been toying with the idea and would love info/advice. Haha
I don’t think so because she mentions one of the plants being near Matt’s side of the bed.
This is wonderful! Thanks for being honest and vulnerable about your journey with your plants!
Calatheas are the heartbreakers of the plant world, I can't resist them but can't keep them alive
Your collection is absolutely gorgeous! i love to give my plants names so my dragonscale is named thorin oakenshield. some are nameless so iĺl take name suggestions if you have any
Love that you did this, watered all my plants while I watched. Just beautiful!
Literally the best plant tour on the Internet
1. Beautiful house 2. I now feel validated in my mental need to count and praise each new leaf my plants have. 3. Great video. Thank you
