Pat McAfee knows who he is, and he knows he ain’t a freaking journalist. He’s not beholden to ask uncomfortable questions that he doesn’t want. It’s that simple Dan, just because you would under your journalist cap, doesn’t mean others have to.
Dan whining AGAIN about PMS. He’s not a journalist. He doesn’t have to ask him anything he doesn’t want to. He’s an entertainer. It’s a talk show, not The NY Times. Dan jealousy just bleeds through every time he talks about Pat.

I'm glad Dan acknowledges that there is sometimes a disconnect between the drama journalists seem addicted to, and what the public really cares about. Journalists largely justify their work as being "the voice of the people", but they're really asking questions THEY care about as a subset of the entire population.
Remember the time Dan forgot to ask LT what was his initial thoughts on the Chargers relocating from San Diego to LA the day it was announced?

The report that ESPN wrote on Bill was absolutely a waste… he didn’t get the job… period. It is not relevant to me as a fan of Robert Kraft called Arthur Blank to trash him or not. Furthermore, what is Bill going to say one way or another. As a fan, I assume a ton of phone calls happen on every coach and every position every year… the report was an absolute waste of resources and I’m sure in time Pat will make a joke to Bill during the draft that is in reference to the report, Bills response to that joke will be all that needs to be said to share his thoughts

This makes sense for anything entertainment related like sports. Not politics. Politicians need to be questioned and scrutinized. Sports do not affect our lives the way laws do. That’s the difference

The reason Pat McAfee is successful is because he was doing all of this on his own before ESPN. That's why they wanted him. His NFL breakdowns are far superior to anything on TV. The big name people want to work with him because of how authentic he is he literally talks about every single thing, that is going on with whoever he's interviewing at the time good or bad he understands his place and he allows the experts to do their thing videos like this one is exactly why you are nowhere to be found anymore. Your channel has become a pat McAfee reaction channel like all the other Schlubbs as you would say on TH-cam.

Been following the show since their initial move to ESPN. It’s honestly tiring hearing Dan go on and on handing out backhanded compliments about Pat and his show. When it comes to the LeBatard show; it’s whatever Dan wants and thinks and the whole crew has to be on board. Same with his race baiting. A man in his mid fifties who works around younger people (my age) should really know that younger people aren’t as racist as he thinks like people in his age demographic. Less race baiting and political baiting and more fun for gods sake- like it used to be.

What I find super-confusing is the fact that ESPN basically punished you for being against authoritarian rule in our country, and yet they're ok with McAfee show being pro-authoritarian and allowing ignorant conspiracy theories to be mentioned at least weekly. They didn't want politics when it was aligned with the majority of our population, but they're ok with a little bit of the crazy minority to be represented. It's the exact reason why I won't watch ESPN, even with live sports being shown. I rebel by watching espn games on streameast 😂

Pat McAfee is not doing well in the ratings even with all the best and brightest of ESPN guests. And he was unarguably awful in their college football coverage. So he can fail, is failing, and eventually will leave blaming the network for his failure.
The difference between this show and McAfee’s is that this is bit depressing unless Lucy is raving about Caitlin Clark. McAfee’s show is generally upbeat. Loved all his Caitlin Clark segments. I heard of this show because of Caitlin Clark so do send her a note of thanks.
I agree with this assessment. Dan has become a downbeat, depressing show. I found the show much more fun before leaving ESPN.
Mcafee was huge without ESPN… his show is like sitting with your boys for a few hours and watching sports… it’s light hearted.. he doesn’t bash or interrogate guests on the show.. he treats them like human beings… that’s why it’s the best sports show out there.. it’s entertaining and makes you feel good
PMS was successful before espn and espn did what no one thought they would do…..they left it alone. Huge fan of Meadowlark and PMS.

If given the rare opportunity to interview someone who is well-known for not enjoying interacting with the media, it would be in the best interests of both the interviewers and the entire sports media to avoid making them uncomfortable and giving them any reason not to want to interact with the media in the future. There will undoubtedly be opportunities to ask more challenging questions, but sports media is more than just a journalism issue that requires immediate answers on rumors and conjecture about him.
