    You didn’t discuss weight for your head. I have these in numerous size as low as 1/16 and up into the 1/8 - 5/16 sizes. Love your videos Randy. So educational. Thank you.

    Hi Randy, My ole buddy Fred used to say " fish fry" before setting the hook. That seemed to help.

    Come up from your shakey head worm about 1 foot and tie on a drop shot as well, best kept secret in all worm fishing,be prepared to catch 2 fish at 1 time,all the pros do it...but nobody talks about it...I would share more info like this if my comments weren't blocked,always been respectful...don't get it, great video randy

    Shakey heads are one of those rare techniques that work when others fail. I also let the fish swim with it for a bit before I set the hook. It also doesn't take a jaw ripping hookset either. I just lean into him a little bit. Good video Randy!

    The mag finesse worm is awesome for a shaky head. It’s fatter body helps the bait stand up more.

    Solid advice. I agree with you on the shakey heads with the screw keeper, I don't use em. I used the davis baits head until I found the Berkley head. It's a round round with a recessed tie and the shank is the perfect length for both 4 and 6 in baits so you don't have to switch heads, at least in my experience

    I personally like the EWG style shaky heads like the vmc rugby head, or the owner football finesse jig head.
    Both are great for any type if finesse worm 4.5 to 7 inches is my preference .
    I wish more companies an EWG style hook

    Good tips. I prefer the screw lock and think it allows the worm to be straighter and more natural. The hookset tip is good advice and may be a better hookset style in general. I caught a good bass on a shakey head this past Saturday. At first, I thought my shakey head was stuck on something. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was a fish!

    nice vid, Randy! I agree, I do not like the screw in shaky heads. My favorite of all is a frenzy nail shaky head. it is very similar to the davis Shakey head.

    Thank You for your time Randy in producing great video content. A quick question please, do you ever still use the “Tru -Turn” worm hooks of the later 80’s ? I have a bucket full of them, and I do really like the concept behind them. Thanks again, Paul

  • @Antznewz
    @Antznewz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I still prefer a screw lock on a bigger worm. also, I've learned from one of your other videos about hooksets that if I give the rod a little shake, the fish holds onto it better and my hookup and hookup to land ratio have both improved greatly

    Randy, Thanks for the tips. I fish a GRSH 3/16, Glenn Robinson Shakey Head in Green Pumpkin. It's the only size he makes. Similar style lead keeper with a strong super sharp light wire straight shank hook. My only issue is that I tend to gullet hook my fish. I'm setting the hook when I feel that tick, but I seem to be late. I don't have that problem with NEDS, Dropshots, or Texas Rigs. Rod is a Mudhole MHX Elite-X 6'9" Med. Light 8lb InvizX Florocarbon. Are Shakey Heads just easier for the Bass to inhale? 🍺🎣

    Don't know if it would help or not. But if you had a particular hook you liked (and wanted to improvise the hook into a shakey head system). Whilst adding an element of color. Some of the 'slotted' tungsten beads. Have some pretty interesting colors (which in some tidal waters or creek areas off of main lakes might be significant). In this case you'd use an epoxy or just a temporary superglue. Or a UV cured material. To hold the bead on your hook. And add some color. The hook shown with a forty-five degree horizontal eye. Is what you'd get with a tungsten 'cone' bead (where the cone occupies more of the hook shank). The slotted tungsten beads are often combined with the ninety degree style vertical hook eyes. Where you are given back almost all of the hook shank. Making it suitable to use with six inch plastic, versus four inch size. Why would you even bother going to the trouble of doing this?

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well for one thing, you can standardize on your bead. Your shakey head weight. Yet combine the bead to different hook styles of your choice (and you can also re-use the beads, when your hooks are worn out or blunt). Also, using colored tungsten components. You can also create shakey heads of different colors. If you deem that as being in some way. A detail thing you want to have color over too. There are very dark colored beads, and light colored. So in the shakey head set-up. It's possible to figure out. If there's a hook, weight, color combination that works in a certain situation. Or another. Maybe you want lighter colored beads for shallow regions. Or darker for deeper zones. Metallic in somewhere else (copper, gold or silver). Maybe it's time of day.

      By the way, the heavier wire hook you use. The more you push weight towards the hook selection. The less impact on behavior of the bait. The bead weight is going to have. And visa versa. Shallower work, I'd be more inclined to exaggerate the difference in weight. Of hook versus bead. Lively actions (and a lighter hook rigged with the worm will float better over vegetation and grass). A cone shaped tungsten of the same weight will come through grass different to the slotted bead too. In deeper water the hook selection, with the same weight of bead. May need to be heavier. To make the assembly get to depth better. What one can also do. Is use a slotted tungsten bead and a cone tungsten bead turned around backwards. On the same hook. And obtain a shakey head tackle. That is double the weight of any other (or use a brass cone rather than tungsten to make it three quarters weight approximately).

    @markmpolizzi3605 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randy, I have to disagree with you on this rigging technique. I throw shaky heads on docks and it is very successful on the lakes I fish. I find the screw lock head with a long hook shank gives the best hook up ratio. The longer shank does not suppress action on a worm since you are really looking for a "stand up" presentation.
