    As usual, a succinct, interesting & informative video.
    What arguments did the film industry give for exclusion from PRO collections?

      That blanket statement in the video about film music exclusion from PRO collections is incredibly misleading. True, limited to performances in domestic movie theaters, but NOT TRUE when those films run on cable networks, pay-per-view, streaming, and other broadcast and internet venues. I can't imagine why this would be so misstated in the video.

      Hi Mark, it was meant only for domestic movie theatres, the running on cable, streaming etc is covered when we talk about TV and Digital song usages. Sorry if it was a little misleading.

      Thank you Mac, we will do a research and maybe make a video on that topic.

      @@markholden5537 From what you say, it sounds as if those performances are picked up because they're already covered/reported by those media, and not by the film industry.
      Are you able to throw any light on how/why the film industry was able to argue for exclusion?

      @@MacMcCaskill blows my mind that the film industry could get exclusion ... ? ... something doesn't sound right .
      Personally i'd always thought that if a musician could get their song into a well-known movie then it could mean they really hit the big time ... so , i guess i'm wrong ? ...

    So you don't get paid royalties for music in TV, or Film? I thought I literally just saw that in a previous video of yours it said royalties are paid for music being synced in films?

    • @TheModernMusician
      @TheModernMusician  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what kind of royalties you mean (mechanical, performance..) and to which copyright owner (composition or master recording)?

    Hello! Very interesting and informative video. Thanks a lot! Could you please give an advice on how to collect royalties if the song was used in films? Are there any agencies that help songwriters do it?

    Thank you so much for your channel. It really educates me since I am a newbie in this industry.
    I got one question, I just sold music that I did not register that music with P.R.O. And after I sold it, I register that music with BMI. Am I still able to collect royalties in this case? If anyone could help me is much appreciated..

      @@TheModernMusician i have run into a lot of people who think that because they have their music on TH-cam and SoundCloud that they are protected legally ... yet each and every time when i've asked them if their music is COPYRIGHTED they always pause and say NO .
      Usually at that point i beg them to remove their music from You tube and from SoundCloud until they get it copyrighted ... am i right ?
      Aren't they putting themselves at RISK to get ripped off ? ... or does sound cloud copyright them ... ? By any chance you know ? ... i don't want to be an alarmist to these people if it's not necessary .

    • @TheModernMusician
      @TheModernMusician  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are other identifiers PROs use, like ISWC, also you should have you song and mp3 uploaded to Soundmouse because PROs use the data from Soundmouse to detect usages.

      Yeah what is digital monitoring? Is it looking at metadata somewhere or is it recognizing the song the way google can? Cant seem to figure this out either.
