I am now 85 and have been a fan of Chris since hearing him at a small gig in Edinburgh many years ago. However Satin Green Shutters has always been my absolute favourite
Have not heard this song in a long long time, listening to it now brings memories flooding in, Chris De Burgh has written some of the most beautiful and haunting songs of my lifetime and I thank him for that.
@fortyninesteps along time ago we could hear living persons singing!!!not maschines like today!i´ve seen him one time in my live in my hometown cologne!just great!!!!!
I too grew up with him and loved him for his great story telling. I brought ALL his tapes (it was the 80s) - then his wife broke her back and went to hospital (2 young children to care for) Dear ol' Chris had intimate doings with the 16 year ol' baby sitter and now (some 10+ years on) I struggle to forgive him but I know his wife( and the newborn) has?! DM
I too grew up with him. I can't tell you how many tapes I wore out! (This was before the days of CD's). When I found out that he had an affair, I struggled with it too. Then, I had one of the most traumatic things happen in my life.... and the grief counselor told me something..... during times of extreme emotional distress and pain, we are capable of doing things we normally would never think of doing. We reach out to grab any shred of comfort we can.... tea-teetotalers will pick up a bottle, the most die hard anti-drug person may smoke weed or take pills.... and the he also said..... we could find ourselves in sexual situations that, normally, would never cross our minds. I finally was able to put the pieces together and reconcile my feelings about the affair. Take it for what it's worth. My opinion and 50p will buy you a cup of coffee. :)
I remember this.. a benefit concert for the teenagers that got killed in a fire in a bar at new years eve.. I knew one of the girls that got killed.. she was only 15..
Just heard him singing this , way back. He must have been early 20`s and it was on BBC channel 9. It said it had been released in S America but not UK and USA. Have never heard it before and found it beautiful and haunting.
It is on the "best moves" album. HE himself was raised in South Amerika. His grandpa moved there. He bought a castle in Ireland and choose the name "De Burgh" what is funny cause "de" in frensh means "from" and "Burg" in german means "fortress or castle"" in english 🙂
What a beautiful song,,but how did this get pass I didnt died, always wanted to see him, just felt like listening to his music so I could drithed into a peace full sleep and I thought to mysef , oh yea that s someone I would like to see, then I find out this, Im well wiered out, now I think I might have a little cry, What a sad loss, What happened that year for me not to notice, maybe thats when I didnt have much TV , just 3 channels ,I cant believevit ,it saddens me very much , Take all, xx

Ah Rodd that’s amazing. I hope you’re living as well and happy as you can be at 85 from a 37 year old who also likes Chris De Burgh.
