Dr. Montgomery is my cardiologist. I’ve done his 28-day raw vegan detox and do 7-day raw detoxes every 3 months following his principles. It’s amazing how after just the first day of detox your blood pressure plummets down to normal levels. It is sooooo definitely the food.

Thanks for this conversation. I love Dr. Montgomery's message. My son died 9 years ago at the young age of 46. He had congestive heart failure & primary pulmonary hypertension. But what took him in the end was the caustic medication that he was on. The medicine was administered through a patch on his stomach. His stomach was swollen & inflamed from the medicine. His overall skin color was red. When they moved the patch to his arm (because his stomach could no longer tolerate it), his arm became inflamed. Then they moved the patch to his other arm with the same result. The medicine, as caustic as it was, was keeping him alive. When they removed the medication, he died in less than a week. I keep reliving that time & wishing we could go back & treat him with a healthy diet instead of toxic medications. Thank you, Dr. Montgomery & Rip, for the good work that you do.

What a gruelingly horrible situation and memory. I am so sorry.
There is a plant based food service called Mamma Sezz. They started their food company after one of the woman's Mother was at deaths door from heart failure. They researched on google and went plant based. Even though Mom was actively dying, she began to improve and, as far as I know, she is still alive today. It's amazing what the body can accomplish. Although this must feel bittersweet to you. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you Dr. Montgomery and Rip for an enlightening interview.
Off subject, but something came to mind that might be of interest for you Rip.
As a retired nurse who in my last job worked with critical, medically fragile pediatric patients in their homes, I learned of folks creating plant based formulas for kids. Many of these kids were fed via G-tubes. From experience I witnessed a child with severe reactions to conventional formulas, have much better outcomes with the plant based formulas.
Not sure you would be interested but perhaps you could interview some of the founders of the plant based formulas?
Could be an avenue to educate conventional GI practitioners? AND help out our pediatric patient population.
    God bless and thanks again!

My husband suffered an aortic dissection at the beginning of the year. Four weeks unconscious in the ICU, three more in the intermediate wing, had to re-learn how to walk and swallow plus four months of dialysis due to renal failure and a couple of additional hospital admissions. He is a miracle in that not only did he survive (I was told his chance was 5%) but his kidneys have recovered and he is pretty much functional, other than getting tired easily and on a plethora of medications. I wish one of his doctors would push a plant-based diet in his direction. I've been happily and energetically plant-based (mostly, not perfect) for years and he is still convinced that I'm completely wrong and know nothing about nutrition. I am afraid that if he keeps going the way he is we will end up in the hospital yet again but I'm getting resigned to the fact that he isn't going to listen.

You could try offering him proteolytic enzymes. Technical they are just to help with digestion - but if you take them on an empty stomach they enter the blood stream and fix other problems / dissolve plaques. Proteolytic enzymes are found on all raw foods, but lost in cooking. So it would be similar to giving him a bunch of raw food. Take both 30 minutes before a meal and right after a meal - win - win.

Chris Wentworth, 'add the virtues and the vices will disappear of their own accord'
I urge you and your family to add one plant/vegan meal a week or fortnight and discuss what you like and don't like ... then after three months, add another etc.
Familiar food and maybe cooked for now.
Pumpkin soup with the seeds and plant yoghurt.
Baked beans with a LITTLE nutritional yeast.
Porridge (oatmeal in America) with a little crushed nuts, plant milk, fruit ...
Nothing too weird, and then ideas will start finding you.
It took me three years to transition, and I'm still learning.
My go to is dahl made from any dried pulse, with lemon juice ... add a steamed or air fried potato or sweet potato- I found cassava the other day, plus steamed veg with hemp seeds.
I suddenly realised I can sprout lentils etc to be more raw so that's my next exploration. Probably part of the strategy not the be all and end all.
Enjoy the adventure, and don't sacrifice better at the altar of perfect.

He his doing the work of God in the lives of all his patients and the people blessed to hear of and or witness his knowledgeable presentation(s). Interesting interview. I had never heard of Dr. Montgomery before this clip. I got the feeling that Rip had to bite his tongue out of respect for his guest, because I don't think Rip was buying into the whole raw-foods thing. I don't believe there are any long-term or legitimate studies out there on the effectiveness of raw-food eating, and it certainly doesn't add up to what Rip's dad found to be true in his patients that he documented in his famous book, "How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease," which consisted of his heart-diseased patients cooking their foods like one normally would, only that the foods being cooked are whole foods, entirely plant-based, no oils, and low fat. Dr. John McDougall had similar findings. Dr. Dean Ornish had similar findings, too. Same with medical researcher Neal Barnard. And of course, Dr. T. Colin Campbell. None of these medical professionals promoted raw foods, but what they did find are all the incredible health benefits of eating whole foods, entirely plant based and COOKING these foods with stove-top heat. So to say that raw foods is the best way to go just doesn't add up. Show me the data.

People didn’t believe those people either. At first they just had case studies too. Just because cooked vegetables work, doesn’t say that raw food can’t work too or better even. The cool thing is that you can just TRY it without bad side effects from 7 days raw.

    • @Jim_L
      @Jim_L ปีที่แล้ว

@@Birtee229 I'm in agreement with you in that if you're suggesting that PROPERLY prepared raw foods, with ADEQUATE proportions and DIVERSE selections throughout the day that one can indeed survive that way. So yeah, it can work. But can it work better? There just isn't any hard data on this. And by "better," what would that mean? How much better are you going to get than Esselstyn, McDougall, Pritikin, Barnard, and the rest? Why not just make life easier on yourself and cook your whole foods, entirely plant-based items and be done with it, especially knowing you're going to like the flavors and variety better and that your cooking/prep times will be way easier?! Why go through all the trouble of a raw food diet and all the difficulties of living that way, when you MAYBE MIGHT get some better miniscule results?
