Thanks for the sneak peek of our My Little Klony!
We’re waiting on the enclosures to come in for the preorders but we’ll get em out as fast as we can.
It really is just me and my daughter building these a few at a time.
Looking forward to that A/B demo. 😉

I bought a used Am Pro Tele Deluxe from Guitar Center. I personally cleaned it, oiled the fretboard, did a full setup, and played it in a single show. Unfortunately I found that the Shawbuckers squealed with a very moderate amount of volume/gain. So when I returned it, I like to think that I returned it in much better condition than when I bought it. I feel no guilt even though I used it for a show.

Your advice is universal. I’m self employed and almost 100% of the time contracts are mutually beneficial when you treat others with respect and honesty. And like you said it doesn’t take long to know when someone is trying to pull a fast one on you.

I’ve never returned a guitar and have purchased a lot and continue to purchase….. which is probably dumb but whatever. I’ve found that if you buy from guys that have a passion for the business then you get a good result. That’s why I’ve quickly grown fond of You guys.

I've returned two guitars which were both purchased online during the pandemic. One of which was sold as new, and was absolutely beat up when it arrived. Pick scratches all over, dings, scratches on the back of neck. It was US PRS, so wanting it to be perfect was the expectation. The shop took the return no issues due, as they sold it as new and it obviously was not. The other I returned was terrible factory flaws. Neck twist, probably 15 paint defects including drips... i won't even call out the brand because it's not typical. Buying in person is different. I get to see the actual guitar and play it. Buying online was the gamble... some sellers are great some are not.

I've done this many times at GC. Buy a used guitar at a far off GC and return it to your local GC. Usually returned because the neck is F'kd, every thing else I can deal with.

That was in all ways informative, educational , helpful and delightfully strange. Thanks guys Ps, re fret sprout, imho ALL solid acoustic guitars should be sold in a hard case, even if you don't humidify (you should) if it's left in a hard case it'll mostly be ok, gig bags are porous, beware and get a hard case ASAP.

Only time I had considered returning a guitar was when the bridge was busted, saddles broken and retaining wire snapped. I contacted the seller on reverb, and I got a replacement bridge sent to me next day and it was all good.

I returned an Ibanez EHB-1500 to GC for a variety of reasons including it was a multi-time customer return and was missing all the accessories (tools, strap locks, etc). I didn't care for the wider string spacing (18mm vs 16.5mm), wider neck, and the mid-control on the EQ was broken. Didn't care for the locking Neutrik connector (PITA to remove). Since it was GC, it was a simple matter of just going back to the store (15 min drive) and get my money back.

I returned a 2017 Fender Malaysian Blackwood Tele from their Rare Wood series. They made 300, it arrived in perfect condition. Within 20 days, it developed a bubble in the finish.I had photos before and after. They it can happen when moisture or gas is release when the guitar has not completely cured. They gave me a credit equal to the price I paid for the guitar. Unfortunately , Fender sold out their inventory as they finishe the limited run. I took a 59 Strat AVRI and later bought a replacement Malaysian Tele. Fender did not push back on the return. I wish I had use the credit against a CS guitar.:)

I’ve not returned a guitar, but I did get a deal on two guitars that had been returned, one from Musicians Friend, one from Sweetwater. Sweetwater was really great to deal with, they had the reason the first guy returned it and reminded me of their warranty. It’s a really great guitar and a good experience. I’ve also worked with a local guitar shop that had a luthier on staff who solved some problems with a guitar I bought so I didn’t have to return it. It’s all about being a good human. Even though I’m not a fan of pink. Love your posts.

I accidently ordered a 000 instead of a dread from an online store. I called them and told them what happened. They said no problem send it back, full refund. I ended up playing it for a couple hours and decided to keep it, but it was awesome how easy it was to "return" it.

I bought a CV 70s Squier Strat from Simms after watching countless reviews on the You Tube creator circuit in early 2021.
In the photos I noticed a small surface crack at the neck joint (common Fender anomoly I know). I asked them to confirm it was surface only before shipping & they did. When the guitar arrived, I found another surface crack on the upper neck joint that did not show in the photos. I contemplated returning it, but after playing it (it arrived in tune), the surface cracks didn't bother me any more. Bonded with it right away, as its overall appearance and quality, and playability was spot on. Plus, the hand written card from the tech who inspected and did the basic setup on it, asking me to contact him if any issues came up were enough reassurance to keep it.
It is one my favorites to play ever since. Sometimes just knowing you have the ability to return a guitar to a reputable dealer is enough to cause you to keep it.

I’ve definitely returned a lot of guitars. An American Pro II dark night Strat because it had way more 60-cycle hum than my other Strats; a Suhr S-style because the high E string didn’t cut through when played or bent (a guitar resonance thing, and I did try adjusting the pickup heights); and some others because I didn’t like the neck or couldn’t bond with them. When you’ve played some great guitars, it makes you pickier. All of these aforementioned ones were ordered online.

I had to return a Gibson J185 EC rosewood burst. The guitar fit me perfectly and it was beautiful to look at but it was just dead. It had gotten roughed up in shipping the case was scuffed up, one of the hinges looked like it was starting to open and the action was really high but I swear I have electric guitars that are more resonant than this guitar was. I ended up getting a Taylor 324CE BE and I love this guitar. They were roughly the same price. I feel bad when I have to do this. That was my third time returning something but I’ve always been happy with the second guitar that I got.

The only time I returned a guitar was the first time I bought my first brand new guitar. A brand new 2017 Gibson SG standard samash exclusive in alpine white with a smal tear drop pick guard. The bridge pickup had a slant on par with a Kramer Baretta. Not even close to joking. I contacted samash the same day of receiving the guitar, they sent me a shipping label, as soon as I got the label in the mail I shipped the guitar back to samash via FedEx and as soon as the dud shipped out samash shipped me the good replacement I ultimately received

100% agree on being nice and honest with the shop you need to return a guitar to. Years ago, I bought a very nice PRS 513, and had it about 2 wks, and then a major financial disaster happened in our home, and I needed to return the guitar. I was totally transparent with them, and the guitar had zero wear on it, since I’d only taken it out of the case twice. The dealer was super nice and allowed me to return it for a full refund, and waved the restocking fee. Be nice people, and be honest!

I received a LP custom from Melody music a week ago - sales guy
told me they were going to set it up with low action and I received it amazingly high and badly intonated and major tuning instability. I now have to now spend a few hundred on setup - this will be the first guitar that I’ve needed that and I’ve purchased dozens. Emailed them asking for an additional week for me to return it.. no reply from them a day later. I’m not even mentioning the 2 day delivery I paid for but it took a full 7 days. Really dismal and frustrating purchase.

Yes, the finish and/or color. If it's not what was sold. Most of the time we end up accepting but maybe the manufacturers and big boxes should eat some of these. Goes for manefactured goods in general.

Two guitars I would have returned if I could. First took so long to get to me, my return period expired...the strings were corroded, neck out wack, a Gibson that sounded like strings on a tin can. Most recent: an electric arrived with the box almost ripped in half. Even with a setup, it doesn't work or sound like the demo. Last acoustic that came with issues arrived at 12% moisture content and the neck was bendy.

During the Covid lockdown I did return a handful of pedals (3) and a ukulele that was too small for my wife’s hand (we exchanged it for a bigger uke). All these returns were done with Sweetwater with no questions asked and no restocking fees…but ultimately I end up spending more money during the exchange with different products to replace the ones I’ve returned (that must workout in some way for Sweetwater)…the other day my rep called and we got talking about returns (timely video lol) and I told him I was sorry to make him jump through hoops with my returns and he told my stuff was nothing compared to people trying to return PA systems, drum kits, Marshall stacks or the people who have missed the 30 day window return policy…

I bought a guitar off the verb and when it arrived you could hear the soldering rattling around, and positions 2 and 4 were totally off. The shipping to me was really sub par, especially since it had no case. I figured if I sent it back, it would end up being damaged worse. So I took it to a shop to fix and set up. While it cost me $100ish to fix, I think I would have paid more to return it and then I wouldn't have that guitar, which I ended up giving to my son who plays it every day :)

I am friends with basically my entire local shop. I only shop there when they have the stuff I want, so I've spent quite a bit in their shop. I had a guitar that I was slowly starting to feel like it wasn't for me, and it had some fret sprout that managed to slice my finger, and that was the only guitar I have returned. They were great about it, and I felt a little bad about the whole situation. (Bought another guitar from them with the money)

I’ve only returned one guitar. Well, exchanged actually. It was a B stock Gretsch 89 VS Sparkle Jet Reverb purchase. When I got the guitar, the neck heel was separating from the body. You could see daylight through the heel joint so definitely structural and not just a finish crack. The dealer sent me a return label immediately when I contacted them and they sent me a replacement the same day they got the damaged guitar back. I will say that every guitar I’ve ever bought on Reverb has been oversold in the description and have basically been unplayable on arrival due to terrible setups. And these are expensive guitars. My Duesenberg Starplayer TV and Xotic XTC were both completely unplayable when they arrived. To the point where it definitely wasn’t climate related. I happen to be great at setups so I’ve always been able to a) capitalize on someone else’s lack of knowledge/experience, b) save thousands of dollars and c) make my guitars play to their potential/reputation.

Oh absolutely being nice goes a long way. I bought a Strat from a music shop in Pennsylvania through Reverb. When the guitar arrived the selector switch was bent. I loved the guitar otherwise and didn’t want to send it back. I contacted the seller and they ended up sending me a new switch in case the damaged one ever fails. The shop left positive feedback on me as a customer on Reverb. I was nice to them and they bent over backwards to make my situation right. I worked in retail for 20 years. Trust me when I say acting like an Asshole doesn’t do any good

Dealing with one that was shipped to me from Poland and came in with a broken headstock. The seller tried to get me to accept half my money back and I keep the guitar, but I told him that was unacceptable. Still dealing with it roughly a month later...

I return any guitar that has a crack in/at the neck pocket out of the box. If it hurts the resale value, I am not taking the hit on it. If the manufacture can't pack it properly, it is not my problem to loose money when I go to sell it.

I have said this before, i returned / rejected a Fender Custom Shop Strat that i waited a long time for.
Your comments that some returned guitars are recycled as new would make sense regarding the one
    i returned.
It had multiple issues including a wrong radius neck, scuffed and scratched finish, chipped headstock, chewed
up screw heads, it was a mess, how it ever passed any form quality control i don't know.
I am very fussy, i want a new guitar to be just that, unplayed in mint condition.
The slightest blemish and it goes back, other issues that i can fix myself i can live with, but not cosmetic
defects, once i find them i just don't want that guitar.😠

I really don't like returning a guitar. Anyone can fix fret sprout with sandpaper, it had better be a HUGE flaw in the finish to return it, and if it's the pickups then you can decide if you return it or buy & install after market pickups. If it's the nut or tuners it's another personal choice. If it costs me under $100 I'll fix it, anything more I'd return it.

so... if someone buys a Gibson. or some other one piece mahogany neck with a 17° tilt back headstock angle. and the headstock was Snapped off. ummmm. say around under the nut. where it's inherently weak... is that due causation for a return?
I mean. if you open the box and it arrives that way. but the picture of the guitar you ordered had the headstock break .. say .. starting under the veneer. or . back into the neck carve?!?

I almost never return an instrument unless it needs a full fret job or has a neck twist. Although if it can be fixed by the shop then fix it and keep it. I don’t return an instrument if I don’t like it and it’s as advertised. I would just sell it or trade with someone.
