Nevermore is such an underrated gem of a band, IMO. Their discography is jam packed with pure metal goodness. If you want some more insane riffage, I recommend The River Dragon Comes, I Voyager, and of course, their masterpiece This Godless Endeavor.
Nevermore is impressive, and I think they would win in a competition with Manson and the Eurythmics. You did justice in your shoot out. Sadly, Simon and Garfunkel's light uplifting performance didn't get the point across. Many people never heard the words but loved the song. Disturbed makes you experience the meaning. Great storytelling.
Disturbed for me. But honestly, I love all three versions. Nevermore is such an underrated band in my opinion. Warrel Dane has one of the most unique voices in Metal and I wish I could have seen them live before his passing. Thankfully there's a full show on TH-cam called "The Year Of The Voyager" that absolutely kills.
I dont think anyone can beat Disturbed with their rendition of The Sound of Silence. Nevermore is an amazing band. Highly suggest anyone listen to what they put out throughout the years.
Both covers are great in their own way but personally for me Nevermore’s version wins for taking it and putting their own spin on it. Like some said, who says it has to be exactly like the original
Agreed... I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a shredded version that of the song with like a pop/ska/funk twist to see how it turns out (sum41/lit/alien ant farm)... orrr... Rammstein... THEY would do an amazing job
Disturbed version wins for me. It stays true to the original while adding the heaviness but it doesn't turn into an actual metal song. And David's voice is just amazing.
Nevermore is one of my favorite bands. There is 2 ways of doing a cover. Keep it as close to the original as possible like Disturbed or make it completely your own like Nevermore. I will say Disturbed falls short without the vocal harmonies. It's what makes the original so good.
Seems like you never got back to Nevermore, at least I don't see any more vids on yer channel of them. Check out The 7 Tongues of God, The River Dragon has Come, The Obsidian Conspiracy, This Godless Endeavor, The Learning, Final Product... the list goes on...
Welp... took your advice... watched nevermore 7 tongues... sooo good... gave you a shout out and will probably be up in the next few weeks ... cheers man
Contrary popular opinion I don’t care for Disturbed’s cover. I love the band. I first heard the Original growing up, then Nevermore (which is fabulous, but besides the intro and the lyrics it’s their own song. They didn’t keep the melody)
drums fair guitar sweet words spoken - Nevermore... Good metal... bad interpretation of the lyrics and the original... "strays from the original" that was the quote I will always remember from your reaction... I like Nevermore but on this one, the rhythm and beat were on par with a repetitive rap song... listen to it again and it will sound like bad rap music... then DAVID !!! VOICE ON LOAN FROM THE GODS!!! even Paul Simon like it better than his own... THAT was music.... great battle...
Yes!!! Well said Timothy!! Voice on loan... couldn’t have said it better... I still get goosebumps THINKING about his voice performance! I’ll give it a relisten and see if I get what you mean about Nevermore and “bad rap”😎
I’m a nevermore fan and dead heart in the dead world is their best album, so it’s hard not to be biased. Disturbed’s version was a tad too much like a Eurovision song contest contender. The vocalist is great though and has a powerful voice. i also like their earlier stuff. They played the cover very safe. So I have to go with nevermore on this one. It had that twisted feeling to it.
Nevermore was definitely twisted... and you’re right about playing safe (disturbed).. I’ll have to go back and relisten after getting more acquainted with Nevermores style (only heard a few songs to this point)
I would recommend dead heart in the dead world as a good starting point. For me it’s their most complete album. I have been Warrel’s fan since he was in Sanctuary.
It’s tough for me to choose between Henk and Draiman...Henk has a more versatile voice and its richer in many aspects but Draiman has that haunting chill in his voice that’s perfect for this song
The only person who has EVER pulled off sunglasses on a similar platform... Howard Stern. The KING. Which, you are not. Take them off. It just makes you look weak.

Agreed Dakota... I will be checking out more of their music for sure... I love a little “pure metal goodness “😎

The Nevermore version shits on the Disturbed version from great height.

I agree, although someone has put in the comments a singer named Henk Poort (dutch singer) gives it a run for its money... I have yet to check it out
Definitely Disturbed
Yess!!

Never more made it their own in their style. That gets them the nod.
Yes!! David Draiman's voice is unparalleled....on another plane!! Is awesome....none better!!
He is amazing... what he did with a classic song demonstrates what talent is possible and how an amazing song can sound even better
Yes! Disturbed was awesome…
I actually heard the Nevermore version before I heard the Simon and Garfunkle version, so in my head canon that's the original :p

Couldn’t agree more Damian... love the harmonies of the original but like you said... Davids voice is amazing and I had chills just listening to it😨

And Disturbed it is.

Anyone who says Distrurb's version is superior is smoking crack and I mean that literally
It happens to be grade “A” crack... Escobar would be proud 😎
Loomis infusing the song with his absolute brilliance paired with Warrel Dane's dramatic, epic vocals makes it infinitely better.
I have never understood why do a cover version if you’re playing it note to note. Rip it apart, reconstruct and make it your own.
Was there a version you liked better than the original ?

NEVERMORE - THE RIVER DRAGON
Henk did!
Check out Henk Porte version from beste zangers
Yes Barry!! It’s on my list and can’t wait 😊
heir apparent ver is the best.... only steve benito
I have to be honest. Henk Port has a richer voice. Although this is a very good version.
