thanks for the video review daniel. is the mounting rack sturdy enough if a pillion were to lean back on the top case as a back rest during rides?

Thats actually the original reason i bought the case. It was for my gf to rest her back against. Totally sturdy enough for her. I fabricated a little cushion that attached to the case for her to lean against. It worked well and gave her more confidence about leaning back. As long as you mount the rack to a sturdy place, the case attaches to it firmly. You might get some vibration if you ride 2-up off road, but on pavement works very well.

Hi Daniel, do you need to use the key (along with the latch) in order to get the case off of the bike/rack or does just the latch remove the case from the bike/rack?

You have to put the key in and turn it before the latch will function. Otherwise someone could pop the trunk off the bike without the key and take the whole thing. When latched, it stays on the rack very securely, it would be thought to try to rip it off. You don't have turn the key and pull the latch at the same time tho. Just turn the key and then pull the latch. Hope this helps!

+Daniel Shattuck Thanks for your speedy reply! I figured you needed the key but had to make sure. Since making the purchase, have you had it out for any trips yet? How are you liking it? Is it weatherproof? I've heard that the aluminum finish is easy to scratch, is that true?

+Jenny R Yeah, I've taken it on many trips, both on road and off road. I've gotten it pretty filthy. I may have a few scratches on the box, but they're small and don't show up much on the finish. I wouldn't say it's easy to scratch, but does show fingerprints pretty easily. My girlfriend likes it as a back rest. I made her some custom pads out of foam and gorilla tape so she doesn't have to lean on the hinges. She likes it a lot. It took a tumble off the back of my bike at about 20 mph down the road the first time I took it out (I didn't secure the mounting rack properly, my fault), and it held up like a champ. It was a heck of a tumble, but other than some small scratches on the plastic corners, it's still like new.

+Jenny R I've yet to test it in the rain, but I've washed the outside off with a hose, and not water got inside. For what it's worth.
