This is the best mixed reality flight training video I've ever seen - you really illustrate the mixed reality concept with the back and forth viewpoints from the pilots POV to a cut of the pilot himself. One suggestion - you need to put some scratches on the canopy - it will add realism and prevent the pilot from pushing his head out of the canopy as he'll be afraid of hitting his head.
This looks great, but someone will need to take on the task of getting this to work with DCS. I think the hardest challenge will be getting the MFD’s to display while also driving the VR HMD. With DCS compatibility it would open up a lot of interest for cockpit builders. I realize it is a niche within a niche, but the technology is ready to deploy. Hopefully we’ll see an enthusiast level VR headset available from Varjo without a subscription model. Fingers crossed someone is listening!
This is actually the VR tech maturing. VR in and of itself isn't ideal for human interaction, it needs to be integrated with a physical experience to make full use of its potential. Just as we saw the stampede for sensor fusion in avionics not too long ago, VR also needs to be fused with the physical in order to provide the experience we're looking for both in training for real-world applications as well as entertainment purposes.
