Good review of the Culla. I was an original backer and have had mine for a couple years now. Im an avid hammock camper so this seemed like a perfect addition to my gear. I've learned there are a lot of haters of this thing in the hammock world. Literally all of them have never used the Culla. lol Anyhow, my main concern was condensation when camping in cold weather. Ive now used it on two below freezing nights. Both nights got down to 26f-28f. I can happily say that when set up correctly with the top vents open, there was no condensation inside. Another perk is that it keeps things nice and dark so if you want to sleep in the next morning, you won't be woken up by morning sunlight. Biggest downside for me was that it's NOT something you'd take backpacking.
I bought a tent cot from Australia(Oztrail stretcher tent). I had planned to buy a Crua Culla Solo to use inside it but decided the foot portion of the tent cot wasn't quite big enough. After watching your review here and looking at pricing, realized with it on sale and the extra Black Friday discount got it for $148! Zipping open one side I'm able to put it over the tent cot very well. With a Thermarest Xtherm and a good quilt should be able to use the tent cot year round. And the Oztrail sets up and breaks down very quickly. Heavy, not a backpacking choice, but perfect for what I'm planning. Thanks for the excellent review.
As a mountain climber for decades, never would this come with me in my car, camp, mountains. It just takes up so much space and is a bit overly setup. Everyone is different and I love hammocks a ton, but this is just a lot of mass, weight for 21F. Great review though for sure.
What I would do to solve your loop issue it to use two Prussic Knots and a couple toggles. That way you always have the knots on your ridge line and ready for a tarp or the culla and its quick release with the toggles so you can use the poncho option. Hopefully it helps. I have the Hybrid and love the Crua products.
A mini carabiner through each ridge line loop would make the transition to a poncho much easier. (It might make the transition to poncho mode easier too)
I used this product towards the end of summer last year I did use it with the Koala Max. Me and my GF fit well in there. Also used the bug mesh. it was a little hot and if you use the bug mesh it can feel a little claustrophobic. I would make sure to have excellent ventilation at the openings. I recommend leaving them open as much as you can because it gets super warm while you're sleeping. I did have 2 people in my though,No spreader bars and Bug mesh.
The Ridgeline is meant to help with a few things 1. It helps you hang consistent by making sure your hammock doesn't pull anymore so you have the same sag no matter the angle of your suspension 2. It takes a lot of weight and pressure off your hammock to make it more durable 3. You can use it to organize gear, you can hang things like glasses or a headlamp from it but many make organizers, which I think I saw your had where you can store things. There are even phone hangers you can have in it.
I understand that completely with the exception being that it's not adjustable on this model hammock. So in other words, if I get the hammock to the proper lay for my preferences the ridgeline is literally laying in the bottom of the hammock.
@@outerlimitless no the Ridgeline will lay across the points where the hammock and the loops touch. It will run strait across the top. A Ridgeline is shorter than the length of the hammock
I bought 2 of the individual tents about 2 months ago. The tentes smelled of pesticides or some kind of very strong chemicals. I called and emailed their customer service repeatedly and asked what it was but they would not answer my questions about what it was on their tents
Actually dude the pilots or Loops at either end of the Ridgeline Clips are designed to be used to attach to the Carabiner on the end of the hammock to pull it up on the end so it doesn't synch done on your feet and head. They specifically design those as eyelets so you would not clip them to the Ridgeline accidentally. That's the whole purpose of them being different, to give you a clue they don't go with the rest🙄
Like dual purposing. The poncho is a great idea in a pinch.

It looks like a really goos prouct.
And then it converts into a poncho and a blanket? very cool.

@@Derchlands Understood...again... the issue I have with the design of the Crua Koala. The Ridgeline is too long and can't be adjusted
That's a unique product. My nice way of saying it doesn't seem to have a practical use.

Is this waterproof?
It cant be, there is a lot of stitching and very unlikely that the seams are sealed from inside. Water repellent at best, for a short time.
Best to set up a good tarp.

Watch Crua's own setup video...
Maybe do a practice run first so that it is clear it is not the first time.......otherwise no value.
