This episode is awesome. I read these books, and when the show was announced, i had no idea how they would visually explain the Sophon scene because it's literally like 60 pages of exposition. The show somehow managed to visually make it coherent in just a 5 minute scene. So hats off to the creators of the show being able to pull it off and not confusing the average viewer.
the nanofibers were spaced 50cm apart for most of the ship (iirc the spacing was more for the lower decks because it was less likely there were people there). The rationale was explained in the books. 50cm was based on how much material they had to work with (they used fibers that were already made, they didn't produce new ones). it was also enough that anyone standing or sitting would be cut, and was chosen because the crossing would happen during the day (as at night people would be laying down sleeping, and would be less likely to be cut).
Sophons are protons that is modified to be a supercomputer that is a size of a planet and folded back to the original size and since proton can technically travel at the speed of light... It would take 1/8 of second to circle around the earth, therefore it can technically be anywhere anytime within a fraction of second... It's just not one accelerator they are messing with, it's interfering with all of them... They are blocking any scientific progress on earth that might provide any significant advancements in future... They are using the same sophons to get an invisibility cloak, it can move fast enough to bend light and create an optical illusion of being invisible or for generating graphics for vr headset that is indistinguishable from reality... The show explains the concepts superficially but the book has an entire chapter dedicated to it..
@TheModernIdiots that's the thing with a book. You can take pages and pages, but with a TV show having a character, just explain for 20 minutes straight. This huge scientific idea would not be good TV storytelling. A reader can stop reading and process the info where a show has to pace things properly and make sure the general audience who doesn't have a background in science can understand it.
Yeah sophons mean that they can block humanity’s capability to build a defense against the arriving fleet. They communicate their intent bc they have a good sense of humanity’s response…it’s sorta terrifying
"that is a size of a planet" Not a planet, but comparable to the size of an entire universe, the planet size you're talking about refers to its unfolding in X dimensions (2 maybe, I don't remember, honestly) that covers the sky of their planet. The series has mixed up some things a bit compared to the books (like the scene with the eyes in the sky that normally takes place on trisolaris when they unfold a sophon for the first time
@@YakoncheShiji In 2D dimension it's the size of planet that is wrapped around trisolaris planet... In 1D it would be just a line with a length beyond human comprehension... There is a conversation between Princeps and his advisor, where the advisor asks him what would happen if they lower it 0 and he answers it would become a part of quantum fabric. You are confusing it with the part during one of the experiments, when they first tried to unfold the proton to lower dimension, they found out that a totally different pocket universe/dimension exists within it in a self contained system and the species residing within it attacks them by forming a gigantic lens and annihilating them by concentrating the beam of the sun. Technically, it would be the size of the universe for the 2 dimensional species residing within it but not for an outside observer that is us humans, which exists in 3D dimension... The show did remove a lot of interesting things like this discussion Princeps during the experimentation phase of sophons, the pendulum stuff and the ETO and it's factions, The Turkey and the farmer analogy, The shooter hypothesis!! The chinese adaptation by Bilibili on YT does explain some of the stuff. There is also an animated series by tencent that starts with the ship scene and goes into the first part of the 2nd book with wallfacer and wallbreaker stuff.
3 months late but Santi’s are like dogs which dogs, cats, and many animals that don’t know the concept of shame as their species but for the Santi they don’t know what lie is

Agreed it was super cool to watch on screen
As an english dude the comments about the beaches and rain is so painfully relatable lmao

Thanks for the explanation!
