I don't have a problem with the fact that Johnny is now black. I just personally prefer Chris Evans as Johnny Storm in the first fantastic four movies. I liked the way the character was played and how funny he was. In the original fantastic four movies Johnny was my favourite character.

I'm half-black and I did NOT understand why Johnny Storm had to black. It was so forced and cringe-y and clearly just done to appease whiny SJWs. When I think Johnny Storm, I think of a blond dude with fire power, just like when I think of Storm (from X-Men), I think of a black woman with storm power. Imagine if they made Storm white. It's got nothing to do with "being racist," and everything to do with it just not working.

Making human torch into a black guy is like making black panther into a white guy
Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, is the hot head member of the Fantastic Four and the younger brother of Susan Storm, also known as Invisible Woman. Human Torch is unaffected by heat and flames, including his own, even when part of him is aflame and the rest of him is not. The Human Torch can produce flames that reach over 1,000,000 degrees. Taking a superhero who is white and turning them black, asian or mexican isn't cool. It has nothing to do with racism. What if they made a movie about John Stewart but made him white? What if they made a movie about Isaiah Bradley and made him white? People would be outraged you made a black character white. Why mess up the characters simply put leave things as they are and play off of that a person can't seriously think of this as the real Fantastic Four because the characters are not real representations of what the characters were throughout the comic series.

I don't mind the reboot of this, it is pretty cool but I can't dig jonny being black if they don't change sue. They're supposed to be family so now they have to add more backstory to jonny so they can shoe horn a race change in and that is what it feels like a shoe horn, like a size six going on a size eight foot it just feels forced.

Well it seems that these movie people love to retell the same stories over and over...and over and over and over...Remake...remix...reboot...come on you geniuses. Tell some new and fresh stories here...Hire new writers with fresh concepts.
Man Land To be fair, they don't HAVE to. They're businesses, they make what people want to see. If another superhero film will bring in more money than something new, why change? As soon as big budget, special-effects driven films stop attracting viewers, they'll move on and start looking for "fresh stories". Blame the audiences, not the studios.

Yep but how many times has Spiderman became Spiderman? They did it also with Batman...The characters are already established...move on to new adventures. Rewriting the characters doesn't help either. Remaking classic movies is a waste of time. Digital effects don't make a better movie. It seems that the movie studios are telling us what we should like to watch instead of fans telling them. Oh well...there are stories out there just begging to be told. But they wanna make the Fantastic 4 ... 15 times and retell how they all got together each time...they even did this again with those Turtle movies...at least the remake...lol. Do you see a trend here? This is why these movies will never become classics...
They don't need to be classics, or original, or even good (not that I haven' found some of them entertaining). They just have to popular. If people didn't want to see them, they wouldn't go. If they didn't go, the films wouldn't be profitable and more wouldn't be made. Look at how big westerns used to be, before going out of favor. We're not talking about individuals wanting to make art, here, we're talking about businesses wanting to make as large a profit as possible. Some new, different films are great, but the studios aren't under any obligation to support them if there's a chance they'll lose money or just not make a lot.

I am black and I am not liking the black Johnny; neither will I like a black James Bond. As black people we need to create our own stories and heroes if we want to see them and leave the current ones as they actually are. Why should Cinderella be black when originally she is a white girl? We have talent. People may not like Tyler Perry dressing up as a woman but at least he created a character and that's what we need to do and stop bawling for Hollywood to change characters to suit us. For me it has nothing to do with brother or sister dynamics or being adopted and all that. I grew up on these comics and I like how they were. A black Wolverine and a white Storm would be ridiculous so why a black Johnny?

Saturn Five political correctness is good, but people can't just use "political correctness" for something they themselves just don't want. He's a great actor, and that's all. I doubt that a superhero movie would need to do much to appeal to a diversity of people. Especially since most heroes are white, and all races still love them.
For the last time, the fans are NOT racists, Michael B. is a fine actor, the fans are just not happy about the movie completely changing a major detail about a character.

But on the other hand comics are probably the most inconsistent form of media out there with a hundred reboots and re-imaginings for every character. You wouldn't think real comic fans would bat an eye at a small change like this when certain characters have had their backstories completely changed several times.

I suppose it does and it doesn't matter. They're a fictional character, letting all kinds of people play them is the right thing to do and incredible.
But at the same time, if they're going to do an accurate portrayal of the character then do it naturally properly.
It's not okay to say Michael B. Jordan shouldn't play Johnny Storm because he's black, and yet have Chris Evans play the same character that is meant to have blonde hair, leave it brunette (but dye it blonde for Captain America?).
The same goes for Jessica Alba. She's not fully white, she's half Mexican with a noticeably darker skin complexion, had to wear blue contact lenses that in the 2nd FF looked very fake, and dyed her hair blonde but wore a terrible wig in the 2nd FF. Her and Chris Evans didn't even look like brother and sister.
Don't even get me started on Kate Mara, she didn't even use blue contact lenses, she just left her eyes naturally brown. That being said, something is always going to be missing.

wiltonford You haven't heard much have you? Both *Halle Berry* and *Alexandra Shipp* who played *Storm* in the movies were played by *half black* and *half white/mixed race/biracial* actresses. *Storm* is *100℅ all black,* and so it did anger a lot of people, specifically black people.
Technically *Jessica Alba* was a bad choice for *Sue Storm* too. She had to dye her hair blonde, wear blue contact lenses, and had darker skin than *Chris Evan* and the rest of the cast because she is *half Mexican* and *half white.*
I ❤ all the actors/actresses that played these heroes and think they did a great job. But complaining on one fictional character about color, and excluding the rest is insulting.
