If the public doesn't like his personality because he's a jackass, he'll have a hard time selling records, no matter how good his voice is. And Cheryl Cole for example didn't vote 'yes' for a contestant (forgot the name, but that contestant later wrote songs for Vampire diaries etc) because she disliked her. So yes, she deserves a salute because she didn't let her personal feelings change her professionalism. And keep in mind that she was only 19 at that time.
