      Thanks Chris, I know you were waiting for it ;-) . As I said, I've found other way to waterproof thr USB plug so I took the option to divided the tutorial in 2 parts to have the chance to join other waterproofing options/

    Well that just sucks!!! We pay through the nose for these "branded" machines only for them to fail? People ask me why I keep my White's PI machine! Well in all the years it's been in sea water it has NEVER leaked! So I might just hang on to it a bit longer after seeing this. My White's PI plus a Garrett AT Gold and a Minelab Xterra 705 with a 15" coiltech DD coil and I'm set. Thank you so much for your time and effort in showing us this, I for one am most grateful. Cheers Chris.

      Frog master, read back from the beginning of the thread as to why we we're termed "critters" . It had to do with political views if I remember correctly, right Crispin?

    Thanks for posting. This will save me tons of heartache and money when I get my CTX. At first I thought you were crazy taking it to 40 ft. I wasn't aware of issues with the stock usb plug and o ring. I now realize that you must be crazy NOT to do any mods. Thanks again! This will save me big time. I won't take my CTX into the water until I do the mods.

      CTX is a very fragil detector. Those simple Mods will help to prevent any leek for "casual detecting". I do use my CTX almost 3 times a week underwater (at least 10ft down and more) and I still pray everytime ;-) Excalibur is not as powerfull as the CTX, for sure!

    Grease is a bad idea as it causes the threads to jump when putting the cap on.
    Then it can't seal correctly at all.
    Seen that on several 3030's, however the loctite plastic thread sealer glue is ok.
    so is that the inside diameter of 19.5 mm on the o ring ?

    • @FrogmasterRiviera
      @FrogmasterRiviera 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robin Bonathan
      Yes I put both, grease when the seal is dry. But the grease I use is the one for marine application (outbord, the green or the grey one). I use it for my stock excals on the Ikelite connectors and also on my video diving housing.

    Another thing: in your video you added an o-ring to the USB port. At the same time, you extracted an inner rubber ring from the cap covering USB port. The question is: did you leave the inner ring in the cap after adding an o-ring between the cap and the housing? Thank you

      No.. I dive with my CTX on regular basis... just go on my google+ page or FB and you will see some scuba detection photos with my CTX. I will shortly post a new video showing that there is no need to place a USB oring, the use of thread sealant will be enough

    Eek removing the rubber from inside cap ! . Hell no .. i just fitted a thin o ring that seals perfectly . Between gap .. and the best yet . Wrap white plumbers tape . Around thread . Then tighten it up this will it make it 100% water tight .😊
