    I use spandex cloth. I think that's what you use, too. I found a thin spandex cloth and it does have that quality that it drops according to the 1:12 scale. :)

    Your capes looks miles better than the other ones, falls nicely, does not bunch up like the other ones.

    I’ve never been much of a customizer (repainted Gold Ranger was my only attempt any customizing anything), but I must say these capes do certainly make those figures look 1000X better! I agree that Mattel or DC Collectibles should start doing something similar for sure!

    Wow! Really appreciate you doing this video Brad as I've always wanted to see how to properly make a decent custom Bat-cape! But on top of that, I also just recently ordered a cape from the same eBay seller and am blown away by it!! It's improved the figure 100% ...I can't believe you bought from the same guy! ...I really wanted a good soft, flexible, thin fabric for the S.H. Figuarts JL Batman, but one which had a pleathery-type look to it. But, as you say, most materials are too thick, heavy and just look totally awkward and out of scale (ie: MEZCO!!!) The material that Collector13 uses is perfect! ...I also really like your cloth capes too man and plan to make some with a very similar stretchy material to yours. Thanks heaps for the tutorial my friend!
    Edit: Oh yeah, the same eBay seller also makes a cape (with same material) for the Batman Forever Val Kilmer figure. ...AS SOON as I find that figure here in Australia for a decent price I'll attach his custom cape the way you showed in a previous video :-)

      Small world indeed! I put one of my capes on the Kilmer Batman using the same template in the video and it works great too. My first Kilmer Batman was OK. The second turned out way way better. It’s on my Instagram. 🙂

    These capes look awesome! I'm thinking about making a cape for the recent Super Friends Batman that came out recently (the one that has the old-school Super Powers clip-on cape). Is there a decent equivalent fabric in a dark blue for that figure?

    • @BradTheDCUniverseGeek
      @BradTheDCUniverseGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sure. What I would do is take the figures clip on cape to the fabric store and find a fabric that’s the same color and has good flow to it that isn’t too thick to bunch up properly.

  • @Janjibro66
    @Janjibro66 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The thing i’ve always had a hard time with is determining the best length for a Batman cape.
    Sometimes Batman’s cape is drawn to be long and drapey dragging on the ground which really gives that gothic “creature of the night” stylish feel
    and other times they go the more practical route and have his cape hanging about six inches off the ground making it seem more practical for a man that has a very dangerous and physical job.
    The inconsistency drives me nuts. Being a big DC fan, do you have any idea which way it is in the comics?
    Does it depend on which artist is drawing Batman?
    Is there an actual canon length to his cape?
    Does it hang off the ground or drag?
    I know in the Ben Affleck bAtman movies his cape hangs off the ground but I just can’t decide which length of cape I want to give my figures as something must be sacrificed in each scenario
    lol OCD

    • @BradTheDCUniverseGeek
      @BradTheDCUniverseGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am OK with the cape just touching the ground. Not sure there is a cannon length. Some artists draw in really low and drappy but typically it’s a few inches above the ground. It depends on the look you’re going for. I’ve done some to the ground which tends to look better for figures and some above the ground too. Maybe start long and if you install the cape and want it shorter just crop a bit off and see what it looks like to you. 🙂

      Brad The DC Universe Geek
      Nice man thanks for the advice makes sense!
      I’m looking for a custom cape for my Mafex JL Batman as I find the material all in all is a little thick and it makes it difficult to give the cape a nice natural drape so I was thinking of either running wires through the cape so I can force a natural look
      but if I picked up one of those capes from the ebay seller you mentioned... are they better than the default cape from the JL Batman?
      I really like the material of the cape from the Mezco BvS Batman because it’s very thin, light, and drapes very nicely.
      Not sure if you’ve ever held that figure, but that would be a good reference point so you know the type of cape i’m looking for

    • @BradTheDCUniverseGeek
      @BradTheDCUniverseGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Halley The Mezco cape is really nice. I just wanted a slightly leathery look to TDKR Batman and I like the way this cape looks on him better. I used the Mezco One elsewhere.

    You don’t like running wires through the sides of the capes for dynamic posing ?

    • @BradTheDCUniverseGeek
      @BradTheDCUniverseGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a huge fan of wired capes. If a figure comes with one I’ll usually leave it there (unless the wire is on the bottom) but other than that I’m not generally a huge fan of wired capes. Great while in action poses but get in the way when not in an action pose.
