👉There's a lot of ideas for Helsinki in this video and I'm so curious which one (or two or three!) stands out to you most... 🇫🇮
I love the Military Ford and yes I would love to explore some of those tunnels as well in it. The Market Hall seems great as well. Swimming in the sea seems so cold especially in this weather... To be fair everything in Finland looks great!
Oh the Flying Cinema might be the first one to try! Actually all the rest too ..except where dipping in the water is required LOL!
Haha I don’t blame you for not jumping at the thought of going in the cold water, Scott! I LOVED the flying cinema but Marc got some motion sickness 😂
The jail hotel! 🔒😁
Wasn't that a funny story about the men making a tunnel to the women? 😂
I lived your beautiful country in the 1970’s
I nearly married their
My memories are still so vivid and I have a huge nostalgia for all of your country.
I ran the 83 marathon screamed on Lasse Viran and lived on Suomenlinna.
I love the place.
I know live in Miami but my memories never fade
Great work
Love Michael
.
You mean 4 time LASSE VIREN ? He Won both 5.000 & 10.000 meters at Munchen / Montreal !
I also live in Miami and would love to visit Helsinki. Don't think I could live there at this stage, I've been wussified by the weather in South Florida. I don't even own a heavy jacket anymore.
Just left Suomi on Feb 28th. Damn i love that place. Its my 6th trip there and this winter was not so white in Feb. Moving there in the next year. Fabulous City!!
Excellent presentation of Helsinki. I know, I spent lots of time there.
Eileen, you are so beautiful and smiling and laughing...it's so pleasant to see and hear you...you added the real beauty to this video and this city ...Thank you very much ! Kindly show the rural side of Finland too !
Thank you very much ❤️ We actually made a ton of videos in Finland and many of them are up in the beautiful nature of Lapland! Those videos are here: bit.ly/finlandplaylist :)
To be honest, Finland is a beautiful and unique country I do wanna visit and explore the richness, cultural and traditions of Finland 🇫🇮💕💕💕💕💕
Very entertaining and informative video. You are spreading smiles and happiness arond the world. I like your video. Thank you.
Wonderful video. I LOVE Helsinki! When I was there I stayed in a cozy centrally located Air BnB apartment that had its own sauna, which I enjoyed many evenings. Although Finland is not cheap, food in particular, the apartment was very reasonably priced. I also really enjoyed taking a sauna at Loyly, and then jumping in the very chilly Baltic Sea!
Hey Lauren! Glad you enjoyed the video! Sounds like you had a wonderful visit there too. The sauna/sea experience is really memorable, don’t you think? Such a wonderful place :)
Hey ma’am lauren
Wonderful natural and modern combination Helsinki.
And your always laughing face is nice "Eileen".
Very enjoyable video. So many interesting places to visit in Helsinki. Thanks foe sharing such an awesome city.
Totally! Helsinki has a lot to offer. We’d love to go back in summer to explore more then too :)
Really great and informative tips!
And amazingly you told me about a hotel in Helsinki, that I had never heard of, Hotel Rantapuisto - and it looked really amazing!
I am seldom surprised about anything in Helsinki, but you did it with this high quality tip! ❤🇫🇮👍
Thank you! And I'm glad to hear that! We loved visiting Helsinki and made other videos about travelling in Finland. Are you Finnish? The other videos are here if you'd like to check them out - so many fun adventures there: bit.ly/finlandplaylist :)
@@EileenAldis Yes, I am a Finnish person, who also recommends the Saimaa lake area in eastern Finland. It is beautiful and magical area in summertime. As well as Riisitunturi 💙✨️🎇 in wintertime.

This is the most useful city guide to Helsinki that I've ever seen - what to see, where to stay and what to eat at the market. Thank you so much. What a wonderful place.
Hard to know what impressed me the most - maybe the church cut out of the rock. That's really something. Safe travels Eileen and Marc!
Thanks :) The Rock Church is really cool. Never seen something quite like that before. I also loved walking around the island fortress and taking the cruise out on the water. Great view of the city!
I am going to Finland in June. I can not wait. 🥰🥰🥰

Hello to you in Hilo! That's wonderful your daughter is visiting Helsinki. I hope she has a fantastic time :)
Compared to other travel videos on Helsinki here on youtube, this is one of the best and most informative, thanks a lot!!!
Wow! This video is an excellent showcase of all the amazing things to do in Helsinki! I'll definitely have to add this place to my bucket list! Wonderful job as always Marc and Eileen!
Thanks a lot, Sophie! This was a lot of fun to put together! We hope these 17 ideas will be helpful to anyone visiting Helsinki trying to make the most of their time. There'll be another video featuring Helsinki eats... ;)
Great compilation, thanks! So many cool things to see and do there. Really like the hotels you showed, especially the former prison.
Thanks, Shaun! Yeah, some super cool places to stay in Helsinki. I'll never forget sitting on that beach at Rantapuisto in my pjs hehe. That story about the tunnel to the female prisoners at Katajanokka made me laugh too 😂
Eileen Aldis yes that was a cool story, not quite Shawshank, haha.
I love Finland 🇫🇮❤️🇫🇮. The Sibelius Monument (4.30) was designed by a Finnish sculptor Eila Hiltunen. Her work was innovative in 1967. 👏
Wonderful video, so helpful. We're stopping in Helsinki for a day on our cruise and you've given me lots of ideas of what to do and see in the 8 hrs we'll be there. Definitely looks like we'll have to do a longer visit at some stage. Thank you!
Hi Angela! So glad to hear that and how exciting you're going on a cruise. We made other videos around the Baltic countries if you're making other stops around there too :) Hope you have an amazing time enjoying Helsinki!

Really great work! I'm a local from Helsinki, and I find it very hard to name things to do in Helsinki at this time of the year. I actually maybe got some tips to myself, for example the Helsinki cinema that I didn't even know about :D Next time somebody asks what to do in Helsinki, I recommend this video :)
That makes my day to hear! Thank you :) You have a lovely city ❤️
Hey ma’am ilona
Helsinki is NOT just cold and grey….It is clean...green..and VIBRANT!
I wonder what it would be like covered in snow? WAY nice I’ll bet! Buildings seem to have windows everywhere, to bring outside….IN!
…Even the featured hotel.... (a prison!).... has clean lines and nature all around…..The city has an outdoor sea pool!
I loved the aerial ride tour of Helsinki! PLUS…..I was charmed by the ‘Local” vibe you presented!
COULD OSLO EVER BE THIS COOL??
haha I've never been to Oslo! And least not yet! ;) Yes, Helsinki is wonderful and there's a lot to enjoy. It has a lovely vibe and super nice people!

Helsinki is beautiful little place. Loved the trams there and the ocean front.
Yes, we loved it it too. Curious how long were you there for? If you had any other highlights I'd love to hear :)
@@EileenAldis It is bit strange to tell...we were there for about 20 hrs or so.I was on my way to Amsterdam from United states by Finair. We got like a 23 hrs layover at the Helinski airport. Didn't want to stay at hotel doing nothing. So we took entered the shenghen area and took train/trams to see the city.
Mainly roamed around the downtown. mall of Tripla, Cruise to Suomenlinna Fortress, Helsinki Cathedral, Street concerts around the Espa Stage ? and it was time to get back :-). I heard Northern Finland has beautiful nature. Hopefully will visit someday!
I’m in very big love with this beautiful city ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇫🇮🇫🇮
I can see why!
I'm loving your travels through Scandinavia!! The Rock Church is gorgeous!! I always look forward to your videos!
Speaking of Finland as Scandinavian is like speaking of Spain as African. It may be next to it.
@@justskip4595 C'mon! Only difference between Finns and other Nordic countries is that there are more blonds and blue eyed people in Finland!
@@madsbuhris Only difference? How about language, culture, genetics, history and such?
@@justskip4595 My apologies and thanks for giving me some education.
@@justskip4595 Wrong. Finland is a Nordic country like other scandinavian countries are. Not much differences. Finland was a part of Sweden over 600 years and got most of it's culture and sivilization through that. The Nordic countries are: Finland 🇫🇮 Sweden 🇸🇪 Norway 🇸🇯 Denmark 🇩🇰 and Iceland 🇮🇸
All of them are members of Nordic council and cooperating with each others. Finland particularly with Sweden.
The only difference is the language.
This is so great Eileen. BRAVO I need to go back and get to some of the places I missed. I was in that rock church shortly after it was built!!
I’m so happy you enjoyed this one, Eva! Hope you liked the drone shots of Sibelius ;) So lovely to have bumped in to you that day!
Amazing compilation! I didn't think you could top your last video on Helsinki, but somehow, you've managed to do it again! Another video with so much to do in Helsinki! I've already added it to my bucket list :) The church was amazing - and over 400 concerts per year! I loved the shot of you and Marc in beach chairs wearing your winter coats! LOL!
Thanks a lot, Linda!! That’s so nice to hear! I also did a double take at 400 concerts per year. Wow. That’s one busy church! Hahah sitting at the beach in our pyjamas and coats is one of my favourite memories from Finland. We had the whole beach to ourselves (as you can see) and total peace and calm. I could get used to that morning routine ❤️
I enjoyed your video so much. It’s pretty much the best one about Helsinki on TH-cam so far... I had hard times to know more about Finland and it’s major cities, thanks to you I started to draw a picture of what the country may offer. You were fair and just and to the point. Thank you again for the effort and time spend to make this video!
Have you ever thought about working in tourism marketing? ;) Very nice video of Helsinki with a great and joyful attitude :)
Hey, I love that idea! ;) Thanks, Ari! This was good fun to put together. I'd love to see Helsinki in the summer too.
@@EileenAldis The market place in the summer is amazing

Hey laine
Eileen in slo-mo makes me so happy! I love Marimekko!
Aww haha you’re the best, Liz! Thankful for your wonderful support and comments ❤️❤️
10:37: ackshually, the prison was founded during the Swedish era, in 1749, but the oldest parts of the remaining buildings are from 1837. :)
People often ask what is the best time of the year to visit Helsinki and I suppose it's during the summer, but on the other hand Helsinki is rather empty then as Finns tend to leave for their summer cottages then. This vid is in the early autumn and it's good too and at times quite warm too, and busy.
We loved visiting at this time of year but I'd also like to return in summer to experience Helsinki then.
Congratulations, you have done your research and lessons extremely good before the video! Great video👍
haha thank you! We work very hard and are happy you enjoyed it! Is there one spot that stands out to you?
You pointed out sights which are not in "every" video, like all the hotels with their specialities, icebreakers, Marimekko outlet, Alvar Aalto homemuseum etc. You pronounce Finnish quite good but I give you a tip, do not hurry when you say Finnish words and say it exactly it's written, letter by letter. That is the Finnish way. But you have to excuse my english🥴. Keep up good work!
@@lamppilaine3155 Thanks! I appreciate your feedback :) Your English is great by the way!

I've been in Finland for 5 years and you brought great new stuff about Helsinki for me, kiitos paljon :) Former prison hotel and calm co-working place have been best. Oodi could also be in the list might be ;)
Yes, Oodi is amazing and such a modern beauty for a library! It has also GREAT balkony area (in spring and summertime) and cafeteria on the second floor! ❤
Increase knowledge of Finland as well as Helsinki ! Probably love travel love Scandinavia!
Olen syntyisin Sallasta, ja aika hienosti sinä esität Suomea.
Some of those places I've never even heard of and I've lived in Finland my whole life... Hell, I've even lived in Helsinki for one summer. This is pretty fascinating stuff.
Same happened to me! 😂❤
Eventhough I lived in Helsinki over 50 years and still living nearby in neighbouring city of Espoo 😅 - which also has hidden gems like Elfvik in Laajalahti. The nature is wonderful and not far is a super cozy Tarvaspää Cafe with a picturesque view on Laajalahti area!
❤😉👍
Delighted to see you make it all the way to Rantapuisto in Vuosaari 😇👌🏻 The nature is so rich here, yet even the majority of helsinkians are missing out on all of it. Appreciate the effort! Ps. hit me up if you ever need more tips on the nature in the east!
I have lived all my life in Helsinki near the downtown (Kallio district) and yes, it's one of the most coziest places to be. Two warnings though: 1) it's not cost-friendly 2) weather is shit every other day.
Thank you! Glad I found you.
Hi Elizabeth! I'm glad you found us too! Welcome to our channel :)
Did you know that Alvar Aalto designed the "kidney" shaped swimming pool? So in doing so, he had a big influence in the skateboarding scene. One of his friends from the U.S. wanted one and then the design spread across California. I believe it was in the late 70's when California had a drought and the swimming pools were emptied, skaters occupied them and experienced something that would change the scene forever.
Hi! I don't think I've heard this before (and if I have I must've forgotten!). Thank you for sharing it. Marc grew up skateboarding so maybe he knows better than me :) It's fascinating that Aalto had such an impact on the culture of skateboarding and California. Wide influence.
That was nice it was beautiful the music was nice
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it (and the music) :)
Great shots, better facts. I enjoyed the video work, what did you use? The rock church is the most intriguing. I'm interested in how the acoustics sound for my own ears. I think I'll pass on the prison hotel. What a combination of Elvis songs 🤣🤣

The Rock Church had a lot of opposition against it because it was such an expensive project for both the city and the congregation. 10 years after it opened it had made back it's building cost in post card sales alone.
Wow, that's interesting to hear. I'm sure it was a huge expense and risk at the time. Glad they went for it and happy it literally paid off for them.
Cool video.. But you missed the new favourite place in Helsinki: The Oodi central library, great modern architecture. It has become a new 'living room' for the locals.

Great video like a lot :)
Hi! Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Katajanokka sure looks different from what I experienced back in the day.......
Oh yeah? When was that and what was it like?
@@EileenAldis It was at the end of 2001 and in the beginning of 2002. The prison started to shut down then and I was transfered to Helsingin keskusvankila, aka. Sörkka.
It was horrible. No toilet in the cell. Only bucket in the corner. And that was the luxury part of it.
I imagine it must be very strange to see the prison now being used as a hotel.
super
Cool video... 👍
Thank you!
