    Introducing the new Ford Nanny.

      I agree, take a look at another way to go. A $50 cruise control which knows the speed limits using wikispeedia.org data.

      Let's say you can pause time, like you do with a video. You pause it right before a car crash. You have two choices: (1) allow yourself to die, and (2) turn back time and have all cars be "nanny cars". Be honest!... And be aware many die on the roads as we speak. If they choose #2, meaning you must too drive a "nanny car", would you accept or let them die?
      Personally, I don't care about your pleasure of driving. I care about another's right to live. And I understand if you don't care about what I think, as long as you have a solid argument for that besides "I do what I want" -- which is true, go ahead and do what you want, but on the road you don't risk it just for yourself.

      @@-30h-work-week haha i dont care. I get my adrealine rush from speed, i just wont drive 120 kmh if its a wide open highway, in perfect conditions and in a mood for speeding. I predict many others will also hate this new feature, and car makers will try to reverse it at all costs. Its not just the end speed, i have heard it makes cars sluggish accelerating too, who wants to buy a sluggish car? Most cars are already sluggish, and they want to make them more sluggish? It will hurt the new car sales if anything. And EU needs tax money from new car sales.. go figure.

    As someone who has the 'roadside' sign reader in my current 13 plate Focus, I can tell you that it is not even close to accurate in the UK. It consistently reads the speed limiter signs on the back of lorries and conveys that as the road speed limit. That can be 'fun' when you are behind a continental lorry with a 100 Kph sign when you are in a 30 Mph area. It will show me 100 on the dashboard (when there are no such thing in the UK). European trucks use the same white circle, red band as UK roadside signs. It also gets confused where the lorry has two speed limit signs on the back of the wagon.

    This is very dangerous, like, literally dangerous. Everyone who drives knows it's not just the speed limit you need to worry about. But also the traffic speed. If the speed limit is 65 and everyone is driving 80, it's only a matter of time before this slows someone down and they get smashed by someone.

    • @Mike-pl1dz
      @Mike-pl1dz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @captain pugwash Couldn't agree more, i use my limiter all the time as well and if there's ever a need for a quick burst (overtaking) i just put my foot right down. The system has never felt dangerous and i love the fact my merc will slowly brake if i lower the limit.

    This is just a first baby step in what will be a long process of taking control away from drivers and giving it to onboard computers. The final stage will be the mandatory use of self-driving cars. Drivers will hate it, but I'm convinced this process will be pushed along by the insurance companies. They will initially charge higher rates to drivers who don't have or refuse to use these new features, and will eventually refuse to insure them at all. That would make them unable to legally drive until they comply.

    A better feature would be to have a device that projects your speed externally and/or records and saves your speed. This way you (not just the cops) also have data when you get pulled over.

  • @judgedredd49
    @judgedredd49 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is a greater danger is a lack of distance between vehicles. Look at motorway pile ups and it happens at slower speeds in and around towns. The most frequent collisions are first of all in urban areas where speed is generally restricted to 30 mph and in residential areas and some main roads to 20 mph.The most common are a rear ender followed in second place by a smidsy at road junctions roundabouts etc. In both scenarios the vast majority of collisions occur at speeds lower than the shown speed limit. So a speed limiter would be of little or no value under the most frequent of circumstances.
    Further whats the point of having the capacity to switch the dam thing off and then totally desregard the speed limit anyway. Having the ability to switch it off makes a mockery of having one fitted in the first place.
    What a waste of time effort and monies.
    i know that they are developing distance assist but once again they can be turned off. Plus if one is fitted and if it works correctly [ some dont and will still end up with a slight collision] then a driver will be automatically driving closer to the car in front. There would be little or no lapse time between the vehicle in front braking or emergency braking or coming to an imediate stop without the showing of brake lights and then the following vehicle is also braking thus no thinking time would be required. This means that a following on vehicle will no longer stay at what was known as the safe stopping distance behind any vehicle and the vehicle in front would be tailgated by many others and that would be a concern for many drivers. If that is so and a driver turns off the assist then in practice he may still drive closer to the vehicle in front a distance that only the assist would have given, not being the thinking distance plus the braking distance, known as the SAFE FOLLOWING ON DISTANCE and in those circumstances a collision is more than likely if the vehicle in front had to stop suddenly and unexpectedly.
    Whats the point in having any of these safety devices if they are capable of being turned off.

    "safety cameras" nice euphemism
    And how good is your image recognition? What if the sign gets mud or its raining? What if it reads 10 instead of 70 and you get rear-ended and your passenger dies? Or reads 70 instead of 10 and kill someone in the car in front of you? What if it reads the highway number instead of speed limit? Can I assume the next step is to send a message to the government so they can just mail me a ticket for going 1 over?
    Yeah, congrats Ford, unless you rip out this **** I will never buy a vehicle from you again.
