I see two possibilities here: (a) Babcock is so old and weird that he truly had no idea that in this day and age, many players' photo rolls are likely to contain, in addition to pics of family and pets, some innocent but still embarrassing material no player would willingly share; OR (b) Babcock knows that many players' photo rolls are likely to contain embarrassing material no player would willingly share, and he wanted to know which guys had such material on their phones. Either way, it's dysfunctional and bizarre conduct.
Babcock seems to have an issue understanding the difference between public and private matters. Its ironic that he is now
exposed by a player making a private team matter public. Its his own flaw being used against him.

Gaudreau got himself a fat contract, Babcock couldn't f with him. Jenner is the captain and the NHLPA Rep for the Jackets. Babcock, the bully that he is knows that and with Gaudreau and Jenner, he probably came off like a decent human being having to fake it I'm sure.

I’m glad that Whit and Biz brought this out into the open. If he’s doing it; he’s doing it. There’s no way around that and he can ask to see it, but it’s their right to say “No”, without any repercussions.

I’m 49 years old, played hockey since I was probably 4 years old! Played OHL, in Europe, obviously not at the level these guys (. Whitney, Commadore, etc) played, but understand the game, been coached by some elite coaches ( Maurice, Debor)! These tactics or mind games Babcock uses sound pretty stupid and don’t seem project that team brotherhood you need to be successful, but (and not defending him at all) he does seem to be a very successful coach. And I greatly respect guys like Ray Whitney, Bissonette, etc, because I know how fuckin hard it is to make it to that level. People don’t realize how difficult it is to make it to NHL and even harder to stay and have a career as long as these guys did. But (I could be wrong) Babcock is a very successful coach, am I wrong??

The star players have called BS on the allegation. They carry weight. That said, the PA needs to talk to each player to find out what really happened and then file a grievance if necessary. It’s pretty simple. We don’t want to hear about Babcock past as the league has allowed him to coach again so deal with the allegation in Columbus. This falls to the PA (Players Association) to do their job.
No they don't lol if you knew how corporations work you would know the PR team has been all over them going over what statements to make. I trust the chiclets sources far more because they are friends with half the league and players will contact them with far less of the agenda then people who work for the blue jackets publicly

But the legitimate time for that to be justified is over because he is out of the NHL.Even the NHL should respond to stop these random attacks. We all support transparency but non of us support bullying, and when ex-NHLers start the rumor mill up and try to disenfranchise or defame or damage current NHL professionals we have a very very serious problem that must be quickly dealt with in the Courts. I have many times shown and shared pictures right off my camera with absolute strangers and even on rare occasions upon request by those slightly more socially promiscuous than I am. Nobody gets to judge a persons social skills then try to use that to defame their professional Skills and anyways we all know that today sharing pictures or data is commonplace and not unusual at all ---- no one was FORCED and if they felt internal pressure then they are unusual themselves.

I'm a Wings fan and the Wings won a cup in spite of Babcock not because of him. Who knows how many cups the Wings would have won if he wasn't the coach. I was so happy when the Leafs took him away from us. The things he did to Commie, Modano and Franzen and many other players are bullshit.

@@shawnreems493 At least 3. As it was it was 2 as Malkin should have been suspended in game 3 for his starting a fight under 2 minutes in game 2. Wings up 2-0 going back to Detroit. Would have been a quick series but Malkin had a huge game 3 changed the momentum of the series.

These guys are literally "journalism bros". Whitney may not be articulate in the professional sense but they actually did their homework and showed it. That is much more than what we're getting in other places.
They have credibility & integrity. They also admit their mistakes, apologize, and right any wrongs on a regular basis. During COVID in particular they corrected some of their wrong/bad takes in a very open & honest manner.

Their best 2 players are defense-optional wingers. I like the future in Anaheim better, especially with a guy like Verbeek at the helm. Not a fan of either team but it’s plain to see that Anaheim is building the right way.

I talked to a UofS Huskys player over the summer, before any of this came out. The young guy told me that everything bad you've ever heard about Babcock is true.
My sources say Babcock is currently working on signing in the KHL.

I’m also curious if/when we hear from players when he was coaching in the WHL. Side note, Babcock and Bill Peters both coached for the Spokane Chiefs (WHL). While obviously successful record-wise, both are now disgraced ex-NHL coaches. Bizarre.

Babcock was a bad decision to hire in the first place. sorry those who put Babcock as head coach '' boobooed'' That process of fireing Babcock would not have been necessary if the head coach would have been logically chosen. So what happened ?
Mike Babcock, the coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets, was calling players into his office for meetings to get to know the players. During the meetings he was having the players link up their phones to the TV and show the pictures that are in their phone.
Very strange request as he probably observed some private photos of spouses without prior warning. The players probably believed they’d either could lose their privacy at the time or their long term ice time/living… Not a good look at all. Interested to see if the PA addresses this…

Ryan Whitney is right, the situation is a stain on the Jackets organization but an entire podcast was able to take down a scumbag coach but also detail an entire organization’s plans for the season.
